@FeelingShred I'm a little late in response, but he used compression pedals on that album a lot. He got a clean sound with a touch of distortion from the pedal.
Hey I really enjoyed it! I'm transcribing this solo right now too, I liked how you changed up the first part of the solo, it's fits in great. The sound Knopfler himself makes there is very hard to reproduce (especially with a crappy amp like I have), so in short, I like your solution!

The holy grail is how Knoplfer does that "distorted" sound on the original recording.
