There is a reason this only has 2 dislikes, and was posted nearly 2 and a half years ago. That ought to be one of the first signs of telling you how awesome this track is. No doubt, Nintendo had and has good potential for music. This was just the first of many.. Late, 1996, SM64 is released, as well as this track. The music seems to fit it nicely.. Not to mention how catchy it is!
i started a new file last week as i have recently uncovered my N64, i never completed this before and today i got from 47 to 70 and beat the last bowser level at last, after 11 long years
I love these song! I also like the Super Mario Galaxy remixes. I finally beat this game for the first time a couple of nights ago. I was up until midnight trying to beat Bowser... I had been constantly rotating the control stick to the point where it started to form a blister.... it was all worth it in the end though!
@danobou not bad....BUT HAVE YOU GOTTEN ALL OF THE STARS YET???? Lol I got them all way back in like 1999. Took me 3 years. Not of consistent play of course. : )
@FirebirdDude I stopped at 70. After getting 25 stars in one day to beat the game, I decided that it's going to be months before I even think about coming back to Super Mario 64. I'm never going to attempt getting 120 stars. Ever. This is one of the hardest games I've ever played before in my entire life!
I got really scared if I fell off a platform in one of these levels. This song spreads chills into my body whenever I hear it. Fantastic game, however.
wow i remeber hw soemtime this sounded a bit supenseful but not as much as it does in the fianl bowser fight. hehe my nintendo 64 still works so sometimes i play this game
fuck, i remember when i was so badass at this game, neo from matrix wouldn't stand a chance against me back then, and i played the final bowserlevel over and over again to fight goombas to this extraordinary awesome music <3
I absolutely love this theme. They didn't just create a simple theme for Bowser's area, they put some zest in it! It's freakin' addicting, man! I could probably listen to this theme all day.
Apparently you forgot about Starfox on the Super Nintendo, which used full polygon graphics. And then there was the three-dimensional space simulator Elite on the NES and other 8-bit computers. And before that we had isometric-3D like Zaxxon and Qbert in the early 80s.
I suppose it depends what you mean by "3D". If you mean pseudo-3D then yes there were earlier games like Q-bert or Congo Bongo or Zaxxon from about fifteen years prior to M64's release.
If you mean polygonal-based worlds, with complete freedom of movement, then Mario 64 is certainly one of the early candidates. Of course space-based sims like Elite or Starfox predate it.
This is another one of my favorite themes. It's got atmosphere to it. For some reason though, it somewhat sounds like there are angels singing in the background. I love that.

Nintendo64's the best?
I'd rather have a Super Nintendo. Or a Commodore 64. Or even Atari VCS/2600. These other consoles have over 1000 games each, whereas the N64 is lacking in variety.
It will be like arguing with someone if milk is white!
N64 was the best console with games so amazing that we may never see again!
Super Mario 64, Zelda OOT, Jet Force Gemini, Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Perfect Dark, James Bond 007 Goldeneye, Starfox Lylat Wars and the list goes on.
Each one of these games are classics that shaped the gaming industry for God's sake!
Howeverl when a recent poll was taken about which was the "best" ever made, the consoles that came out on top were the Super Nintendo (# 1) and the Atari VCS/ 2600 (# 2). I generally agree with those results, except I think the Atari deserves the first spot simply because it invented all of today's genres (yes even first-person shooters).
If you haven't had a chance to try these consoles, use an emulator.
1) GoldenEye is reported to be the best FPS to date. Websites and magazines compares any FPS with GoldenEye since it is considered the FPS that virtually introduced all the elements we see today.
2) Super Mario 64: The first 3D platformer! its to obvious that any Platformer today has the ultimate goal of trying to reach the perfection of SM64!
3) OOT: First of its kind and still to havent been touched by any game. No1 in the all time best game list!
I don't have too much room so I'll sum up as best I can.
Know first, I'm well aware of those notions.
But in all honesty I believe Mario was really the only one to impact and innovate a concept. In this case 3D platformers. The rest I believe were simply improvements on a tried and true formula. (BTW Mario64 was NOT the first 3d platformer that was
Jumping Flash on the PS1)
I'd say more but I'm out of room. In short, it comes down to a matter of opinion as always and these were mine :)
LOL why are you even telling me something that i know already? Do you honestly try to tell me that Quake as an experience as a whole its better than Goldeneye?

Goldeneye and Perfect dark shaped the FPS genre, Super Mario 64 shaped platformers, Zelda shaped the Open-world adventure games and the list goes on.
