Nicaragua is the safest country in Central America.

There are no established GANGS that plague El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, mainly "MS13" (Mara Salvatrucha). The crime rate is lower and there is less violence. People are friendly and tourist are welcome.

I was recently there 3 weeks ago, and felt really safe. I think there is no country that's the safest, but I think when they say the comment they mean safer than what the media has tried to make people that it hasn't been. For all those out there. It's a very safe country. It's actually safer than some places here in the USA. We had a wonderful time and want to go back!!!!!!!!!!!!

actually it was the mexicans who invented it. they didn't want the american soldiers going into their land and the only thing that they could say in english was "green go" or "gringo" as in go away (because their uniforms are green and they didn't want more wars)
