The beauty of life is that we are all free to believe what we want . no need to feel sorry for me, I have real joy in my life, and many blessings. I dont shove my beliefs down people's throat, my initial comment was just pointing out that the song matches up with the biblical account of Jesus, who whether you believe in the diety of him or not - was a real person in history.... Take care.
@Brian12327 K then don't spouse your religious bull shit and act like any of it makes any fucking sense or is meaningful in some way or worth sharing, etc and I won't have a reason to call you retarded if you understand to keep it to yourself.
@TheMarsVo1ta I'm not a "religious" person, but why do you care so much about what other people believe? People are just offering their opinions about the meaning of a song. Which by the way I'm honestly not impressed with the songs I've heard off this album so far. Seems like they lost some of their edge. But I would rather pay to watch them play live then to see TheMarsVolta's coked out singer spaz around like a crackhead. Worst $15 I ever spent, at least Deftones headlined that show.

@TheMarsVo1ta It is just as shameful to be filled with hatred and scorn for anything ,let alone something that has no affect on you, than to believe something that (in your eyes) does not exist. Forgiveness is important my friend.
@TacoNinja18 hey dont be a dick. and im not entirely atheist, I think i may be agnostic but im not sure the point is im not really religious so i cant listen to this band.
@TReoS96 Hey don't be a fucking idiot. Just because you're not religious doesn't mean you can't listen to this damn good band. I'm not religious either, but that's not stopping me. I also listen to 'Cocaine' by Eric Clapton but that doesn't mean I have to do coke to listen to it.
Also, to define agnostic, agnostics believe that God or a god might exist, and they're open to the possibility, but they believe that it cannot be proven but any human being or otherwise.
@TReoS96 I'm sure we both agree that religion is man's attempt to find God. But if you study the Bible, you'll find something different. It's actually God's attempt to find and rescue man. And what do you mean you can't have a relationship with something that doesn't exist?
Sorry to be another one of "those people", but I think you might like to hear what true religion actually is. This is how James, the brother of Jesus of Nazareth, puts it: James 1:26-27Anyone who sets himself up as "religious" by talking a good game is self-deceived. This kind of religion is hot air and only hot air.
@TReoS96 Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world.
Just figured you should know before you completely bashed religion. I find the most freedom when I love people like God loves me. Jesus was the man god who came down to lead us into right action with each other and God. You'd call that an incarnation in "religious" terms.
@Michaelgoround i dont mean to bash religion if you have faith thats great, your a lucky man you will live your life with less of a fear of death and a purpose and answers to the big questions in your mind and when you die you will never find out you are wrong i mean its great, you never find out you were wrong. no offence
@brettygood i'm an atheist too and i absolutely love mewithoutyou. they're one of my favorite bands. let me tell you, if more christians were like aaron weiss, actually attempting to imitate their christ, and producing beauty and wonder that rivals all else, i wouldn't have a problem with them.
@dragnslyr23 If this is just a story, then it's a complete ripoff.
You see, there was this one author, really good, His name is God. He wrote this really good book a few THOUSAND years ago, so good that people are still reading it today. The problem here is, this song seems to be an exact replica of one of the stories in that little collection of pages he threw together oh-so-many years ago, including a few quotes from the book itself.
So, there's a small hole in your logic right there...
@devistation843 - you make me laugh. "God" didn't write the bible, some guys who believed in God did. But thanks for playing. Also, I'm not a Christian, but this is my favorite band. Don't push your faith on others. I appreciate their music because Aaron is one of the best songwriters of the last century.
How is hard to miss specifics? There are numerous Bible references in this song. The Sheep and The Goat. Baby in a manger. Jesus praying in the garden while the disciples sleep. He may have an interesting visual for the Devil which is a snake carrying a stick a carrot and a string, but it's probably one of the most genius lines I've ever heard in any religious song.
I'm seeing a lot of odd things in here. People saying that Jesus isn't the only Way. Jesus is exclusivitory. He said He is the ONLY way. Sure, you could say that Allah is God, but their teachings are false. Sure, you could say a Mormon has a relationship with Jesus. But is it Jesus? Or is it another? You guys need to be careful. Not all truth is God's truth! If my truth was that killing is okay, is that God's truth?
yeah.... its hard to beat the specifics of this song and try to call it something other than Jesus haha. Gah, this band is so good. and Jesus is so much better :D

@HiStinker Yes, that is true, but the implications go far beyond that. "Clothe the naked, feed the hungry, do justice, love mercy, etc." Christianity isn't just belief, it's action and being. It's a way of life.
@NduguuSpeaks I completely agree with you that those things are all things that "christians" should do, and are a good witness to the faith. WIth that being said - "Come you empty handed, you don't need anything". It is not your works that save you (any of them), for if you continue to sin, you need a savior. Love love love humanity, I agree. But, the thief that died next to Jesus on the cross had not done any good in his life, and yet was saved just because he believed.
It's not solely about Jesus. This (and all their albums) album covers a wide variety of religious beliefs, while this album focuses on a famous Sufi's teachings.
Theyoften sing about a great love from a transcendental being that some may identify as God or Jesus, but many others call that love by a different name. It doesn't matter how one identifies with the sacred, as long as they are in touch with it. It is pure arrogance to think that it HAS to be about jesus and no other religious figure
@gonuts321 Actually this song is about Jesus. Aaron use to be a Jew, but converted to Christianity. He even said it himself. yah, i agree with you. in an interview aaron actually said that he didn't feel that his music wasn't "Christian" enough to be called Christian, but rather he wrote spiritual and religious music. @dustinstruthers how is he a follower of jesus but not a christian. A christian is someone who believes jesus came to earth to save our souls from hell?
@MajrMovieMadnes he means christians are sometimes given a bad name by telling people that they have to convert or die, or homosexuals are going to hell, i myself prefer Disciple of Christ because, like i said people see christians as the convert die people and we just dont want to tag along with them because we all end up in the same group

I get annoyed when people search for meanings in songs and lyrics, even if there is no real meaning they look for one! I mean the person could be singing about cows maiming the crap out of people because he just wanted to be random or something, but people will look for a meaning in that, like the cows were actually his dad and when the cows were beating the different people those are the different situations when the dad beat him. I mean come on!
honestly, why are you even trying to put a final meaning to the song? Aaron wrote what he wrote, under the influence of what was going on in his life at the moment, down from what he was reading, to who he was interacting with...

God is one of the most powerful concepts in society, and using it in his songs makes perfect sense.
Well he is telling the Bible story in this song even down to his slightly twisted quote from Jesus. Also from the conversations my friend had with Aaron after a concert we attended I'm pretty sure he's talking about Jesus. All the same, his music is the good word, not the hating word that many people preach.

Also from the conversations my friend had with Aaron after a concert we attended I'm pretty sure he's talking about Jesus. All the same, his music is the good word, not the hating word that many people preach.
