FF7 PS3 Tech Demo

When I first saw this on the PS3, I got excited. Fast forward a few years, and what do we have now from square? I can't even answer the question....

(continuation) go back to a 100% JRPG even though it'll be a remake and not the next numbered Final Fantasy. i mentioned in another video that they should make every other (odd numbered final fantasy game) the typical FF game like 7 and the even numbered ones be action rpg to make both walks of life (RPG lovers wise but more specifically Final Fantasy lovers wise) happy.

i am skeptical that it is only just a tech demo. so what if they can't remake FF7 in a year like they want, well we've been wanting for a remake for way more than a year so if they are going to one day remake it it's kind of pointless if they still want to make it in a year since they made us ask for one for sooooooo long. that would be great if the FF vs 13 trailer is just a cover up for the FF7 remake. i kinda hope so since they SHOULD go back to a 100% JRPG and not action rpg.

FF7 crap? the only thing about it that was crap was the graphics, compared to today that is. so considering the graphics were great of it's time FF7 is crap my ass, no pun intended. graphics don't make the game but it sure does help in resparking someones interest in an old game.

All of you asking if there's an FF7 remake. Square has shown some interest in doing so, but they have there hands full with all there projects, so *if* there is one. I guarantee it won't be until the next gen rolls out ( that is if they aren't already in production, and just lied :P )

Probably crappy voice acting, and snazzy effects will ruin it.And most of all the music. I've listened to remade orchestrated verisions and they just don't sound right. I guess I'm trying to say I want something like ffvii, ffviii, and ffix. Does that make sense?

first ff 1 and 2 for psp then 3 and 4 for ds. i would hope to see 5 and 6. then 7 8 and 9. but the pattern is there. we'll have to wait till 5 and 6 get makeovers first which means it could be years before they would remake 7. but i'm sure that eventually it will happen. but this is just speculation. :)

No, that would be terrible.

The only reason I don't want a FF7 remake is that they'd add in all the bits from CC and DOC just to make it more like the compilation. FF7 stood by itself before the compilation and doesn't need them to be a sustainable and likeable story.

But otherwise I'd love a FF7 remake, that is if it was exactly the same as the original... of which case I may as well play the original and save them the time of making it :P

I completely agree. If they remake FFVII, it needs to be the original, just with a graphic overhaul. The only additions I could see working would be like things they did with KH:Final Mix- A few extra weapons, maybe a couple extra sidequests, and some easter eggs

i think there is a possibilty that it will happen. square has done it befor e with games like chrono trigger ds and so forth. the ff game creators have said they would love to have a remake of it. but its all about timing. and also they have there hands full with FFXIII. im not saying its a yes. but it is a good possibiity. why would they make this demo? they knew everyone would freak over it. why would they just do that to torment us FFVII fans?

I think the biggest thing stopping a remake is the turn based battle system. Most publishers think it's dated and unsexy, too D&D. They want Warcraft style MMORPG moneymakers, or 1st Person Shooters like Halo or Gears of War. They could update the battle system to follow FFXII's example of half and half turn-based/action, but would it still be FFVII if they did? I think it could work...

ehhhh no, that's not why they're not making a remake, and for the record, MMORPG play style should stay in MMORPG's, FFXII had a horrible gameplay, all you had to do was set good gambits, and the only thing you did was literally watch you're characters play. I never said I preferred those styles of gameplay. What I was saying was that games publishers (the people wit da cash monies to manage distribution and sale of a game, like Microsoft) don't want to risk making a game that looks backwards in the face of their forward-thinking competitors. Personally, I love the FFVII system and if they were to have a remake I would want it exactly as it was but with updated graphics and sound. They could even leave in the "Off Course!" mistake! :)

I HIGHLY doubt they would remake FF7. The whole point of this video is not because they're working on it, but rather to test out what the PS3 has in store. Would you spend money on storyboard artists, music composers, orchestra, sound engineer..etc so that you could just practice and give your boss a display of what the current technology you're working with is? Ugh... no. They already had storyboards and music for this clip.

You sure? Think numbers: FFVII has one of the biggest cult followings of its era, if not the biggest, it' audience are actually asking for it. They wouldn't need to work on a storyline or scores, which just need rerecording (also, the music in this clip was not the original recording, it's a new one, listen again). Sony want to capture the market and catch Microsoft/Nintendo, but they are also in a bad financial situation. Remaking FF7 would sell PS3s, guaranteed. I think it could happen.

I agree. nothing short of an EXCLUSIVE remake of FFVII would make me buy a PS3. Despite my disiterest in the Xbox 360, I'd buy one before a PS3 (which looks like its gong to go the way of the Dreamcast). Maybe a DS version might be made, after IV, V and VI... (unless they are pnly re-doing the Famicom nintendo released FF for DS...)

Anyway, back to my original opinion... PS3 exclusive FFVII remake is the only thing that would motivate me to purchase PS3.

Go to IGN, then go to the "FFVII: Technical Demo for PS3" section, then read the latest interview from Nomura (from July 2007).

Nomura said that Square Enix is not making a FFVII remake AT THE MOMENT. But might think about it if fans are still wanting it in a few years. (he personally wants to make one right now. hahaha).

Most of the previous games for the SNES were merely ported/converted to systems such as the Gameboy Advance, not recreated. Thats why the majority of the graphics are the same. I could imagine a FFVII port for the DS or PSP, but its highly unlikely that they'll remake it for the new systems.

The game was a huge success so if they do release it again, it might be a huge success. I wouldn't cre about the battle system. I know FF7 was a great PS1 game, but come on do you really want the same exact thing again? Just play the original if you don't like change. If a newer battle system makes FInal Fantasy more fun then remaking FF7 with a new battle system gets my approval. It would be cheaper to reproduce FFVI than it would be to reproduce VII and I guarantee that they'd sell more copies of FFVI than of VII. Most gamers who knew that FFVII wasn't the first FF game made (like 95% of the fanboys that got picked up by Square in 1997) will agree that FFVI is probably the best overall FF and most would most likely become to the PS3 what Halo was for the X-Box: A way to mass sell units.

FF8 was freaking terrible. The storyline was all over the place and the last boss came out of NOWHERE. The music was also terrible. FF7 attracted not only loyal ff fans, but people who didn't even know what Final Fantasy was. It would be a smart move on Squarenix's part to remake this game. The nostalgia would be there for sure, and it would be nice to play a FF game whose male protagonist actually looks like a male.

The storyline in FF8 was much more linear (and had many less stupid plot twists) than FF7's and no, the last boss DIDN'T just come from no where. We learn about Ultimecia from Edea in Disc 3. You're thinking of Necron in FF9.

I hated the battle system in ff8, and the characters were all too alike. I felt like playing super models, while ff7 was more diverse, considering they had a black dude, a dog like character and a fluffy thingy.

ff7 has the best story bosses and characters. Sephitoth remains an explanation for me and my brother, when we grade badassness. If you are a Sephiroth, you are unstopable

sephiroth is the weakest person in the game, and i count a person weak because of their mind. he's gone bonkers after knowing his past. and he NEVER repented for what he did.

Cloud is weak too, but he became stronger with all the help and support from his friends. and of course he got a lot of help from the maiden who died young.

I am sorry to burst your bubbles, but it is NOT being remade. Besides, FF8 is much better than this, quite frankly, subpar game. Sephiroth is a terrible villian compared with Kefka or Ultimecia, and Kuja and Seymour are on a level of thier own. Cloud sucks compared to squall or Tidus, and the maesters of Yevon > ShinRa.

A remake of that these days is nothing easy to do. Consider this - if it would have to be a great game - it would have to go for open map - like in gta, oblivion ect. Second - making it only for ps3? Are you kidding? I see that square-enix is not one of those - mooney is coming out of all our holes, we can do whatever we want. They have a strict approach on what they are making. Third - battle system for pc ported game? You must be joking.. Due to that we can say bye bye to storyline.

I plan to buy the original. i haven't played it yet, but i've heard so many good things. hoever, even if it turns out to be the best game i've ever played, i have no plans of buying a remake, because the PS3 is too damn expensive. Maybe sales of the PS3 will be so bad that the supposed remake will come out for the Wii instead.

I have a deep and passionate hate for XII's battle system. I think this type of free roaming system has no place in an offline FF game. While some of Square's other games have had a similar system (Radiata Stories) and I enjoyed them, PLEASE don't change Final Fantasy's ATB system. Any other additions are welcome to me.

husoku: what would be the point of a "remake" if it was no more than a graphical update? anyone who has played the gamecube remake of resident evil will be able to tell you how much better than the original it is, and it's not just better graphics. i agree with you that they shouldn't change the battle system, but saying that they shouldn't add ANYTHING new is a bit..... insular.

Final Fantasy 7 is the best so I hope they do make a remake, it would be much more enjoyable with decent character graphics!

They need to use the same exact battle system of FF7 the original.. If they are going to revive it, then just revive it! Don't add to or change anything, especially something that would affect the gameplay such as changing the battle system.

Actually, a recent issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine made a short article on this tech demo:

Whether this is true or not, though, I won't believe it until I hear an official announcement about it from Tetsuya Nomura himself.

Tetsuya Nomura said there will not be a FF7 remake anywhere in the near future. Still a possibility, but there are no announcements for a remake.
