Did you know that when this was first performed, when the symphony was over the audience sat in silence for a moment and then booed, how disrespectful, Its an interesting piece and fits a specific taste but definitely does not deserve to be booed!
Thanks very much for posting this version. A profound reading - very brilliant. Do you get the feeling how masculine this movement is? Apart from the novel pairings of oboe and horn, the music feels bare - no barrier between the ego and the divine. So much packed into 3 minutes!
Interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the Great Igor ? The brilliant poly tonalities rhythmic asymetries and mismatched semantic components that Stravinsky was so fond of and the non-sentimental music that resulted check out the Bernstein Harvard Norton lectures 5 and 6 from the early 70s DVDs still in print
@robotkarel true, this is faster than the norm, but it's only a fraction faster than marked (MM92)-
which doesn't prove that this is right of course, as composers markings shouldn't be taken always be taken too literally. For me,the opening often lacks the necessary tension at slower tempos.
Perfect!!!

omg... it's unbelievable that the first chord is a E-Minor chord.... it sounds like a totally different chord.

This is a masterpiece. Anyone who disapproves of this should try to write something a fraction as incredible

wow! this is how I like it to be done but rarely is.
This is the best opening i've heard (Bertini,Karajan and Stravinsky being the others)-real punch to it.
