BUT: a "spoof" is defined as a /humorous/ adaptation of something, not just a replication of it.
Also, for those who don't know, Era's music is not in Latin, it's just latin-like syllables with no more literal meaning than do-wop or other forms of "mouth music"
The Lutheran Church retained Latin, Gregorian-style chant well after the Reformation; I think it died out slowly during the Rationalist period that hit the Lutheran Church very hard. It died out in the Roman Church as well, but I think it was about 1850 when a pope declared it the official music of his Church and there was a revival.
To be honest, that is not Gregorian chant. Gregorian chant is always unaccompanied. I sing in a Gregorian Schola at a Benedictine monastery. For that record, we do use Gregorian chant in the Novus Ordus Mass.
Gregorian is the chant started my Pope Gregory. It is used during the Latin Mass and is seldom used during the Novus Ordo Mass. Their is not such thing as a Gregorian.
Thanks... the music is so great I've really become attached to it. These guys with their Persian letter openers and such are not that cool... but they got to do what they got to do....
I think the Gregorians of England are not at all like the Gregorians of the Vatican... yet they both do these chants....
This is not a made-up language, ameno is a small town in northern Italy, the word ameno means a healthy place, the town of Ameno sits on a hill, mountains, fields and lakes border Ameno, so therefor, HEALTHY, as in the other words they are Latin.
it is in Latin i think. It means something like "Free me, god" or something. This song is about freedom, and it's kinda religious. Makes me think about getting guns and ridding the world of evil...And i liked those daggers, very good-looking.
As one might recall from the old "Laugh-In" show which aired in the seventies...Arte Johnson in his best Germanic dialect would state, "Very interesting, but stupid." I think that best describes this video.
Sorry that I haven't been around to answer. There's actually very little going on. Basically we just listened to the song, thought it was good, found out that drapes make good capes and then walked around with our cool miniature swords. We had seen some Gregorian music videos and thought that if they can get away with five minutes of formation walking then so can we. To those who are wondering what in the world does the church has to do with anything - it looks kind of cool, doesn't it :)
i don't want to sound stupid, but can you explain to me what this is about? i really love the music and the video but i have no clue whats going on. let me know please. thanks
Ok I'm totally digging the concept, but the video looks disjointed. It's like, apartment... church... apartment.. church... doesn't look like one has anything to do with the other. Also, a steadicam or tripod woulda gone a long way here.
I plan to make a video sorta like this soon... but I'll be sure NOT to use "Ameno" like I originally planned, LOL! Glad to see there are other fans of this music genre though.
At first we tried to think how to make our apartment look like a church/monastery, but after realizing it was impossible we thought it would be fun if we didn't try to disguise it at all (the huge speakers in the background and the pizza box we didn't remove from the floor in the first shots :) "We are monks so great that it doesn't matter if our monastery looks like a church outside and a dorm room inside."
I'll be checking your videos in the future to see your take on the subject. Good luck!

Thanks, do you mean the church or our apartment? :)
The church is Helsinki Cathedral http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helsingin_tuomiokirkko
This is the best (only) translation I found: http://www.lyricattack.com/e/eralyrics/amenolyrics.html
