How can destroying a natural, interesting, beautiful, native ecosystem be seen to make the west coast a better place?
When you can, go up there and have a first hand look at what will be lost ,
The West Coast was always seen as being a clean green part of the world but as of late it appears the only agenda is more destruction of the environment for more grazing pasture, milking sheds, mines and a power scheme which is not necessary.
@46bardman- I've been up there many times. something you are forgetting is the coast would not be the place it is today if it wasn't for mining etc. why do you think people ever moved there all those years ago?? do you think the west coast has the highest average wage in New Zealand because we all sit on river banks and paint pictures?? i don't want to see the place destroyed but some common sense can go a long way...
@biggibbor1 You dont want to see the place destroyed you say! Highest average wage in nz, oh so we must keep going then, the mighty $ making all the Decisions as usual, I was just trying to get the point across that we can't keep taking the coast for granted, A line must be drawn somewhere before it is too late, Oh I dont sit on river banks and paint pictures either, I wish I was that talented, I just go there to enjoy the river and surroundings.
@46bardman- place being destroyed and controlled mining and power schemes are completely different things which you dont want to understand! You fail to acknowage my question if you use metals and power? or is it because you have now clicked that you have no reason to be complaining? i hope that you too will agree to remove your house from the national grid since power is not necessary. there is a lot nicer rivers on the coast to be enjoyed which dont have dams already a true coaster would know
@46bardman- how is mining and power schemes not necessary? do you own any metal items? a car maybe? forks anything plastic (oil)? the computer your on has came from mining and the power to use it from power schemes so where exactly are you coming from here? you prob drink milk to ay?? if you can prove that you don't use any item that has come from these non necessary industry's then yes you can comment...
@biggibbor1 Of course I use em, its what we must do now, milk aint on my menu tho, Im just concerned that this is all getting a little out of hand, the arnold river is an ecological marval which I think should remain as it flows now, Can you name another river with the same in river value as the Arnold, I can't, Lets stop getting greedy with massive expanding polluting industries so these schemes are not required, That ain't gonna happen. 34groome Has captured some true history here welldone.
@46bardman when you say river value what exactly is that? ahaura river is imo nicer any river down haast for example there is nothing special about the arnold what makes it different is it has a dam on it already... basically people would need to stop breeding to stop expansion. next thing they will push for electric cars then how are we going to not need more power.. i guess we could just open up more coal mines and use that energy source for power instead?
Here's a tip - stop bludging off the NZ government and go out and do something useful by getting a job and having a purpose in life instead of opposing everything that would make the West Coast a better place, you say you go there everyday - I would like to be able to do that aswell but I choose to help the country by going to work earning a living and pay my taxes! We need electricity and this is the most environmentally friendly way of generating it.Maybe we should just burn coal to make power?
@e39avr4evo my name is johnny william groome...whats yours? Or should we just call you chicken? I think if you cant even express you own true identity then you shouldnt be making comments on anything especially such uneducated ones like you have on an issue you obviously know nothing about...you sound like a kayaker...are you?
Oh no your going to lose a small fishing spot big deal. its not that major of a change the river already has a dam on it... i hope you don't use any power from the national grid because if you are you are saying its ok to damage other rivers but not your little fishing spot. unless this video was uploaded with a solar powered computer and the camera was charged off the grid as well i think it should be removed. what they are doing has small impact compared to what they could do with a proper dam
@biggibbor1 there are some people who catch thier fish with dinamite killing everything else in the vicinity, what a waste! Generating power from the Arnold is a simmilar situation, a big price for so little gained. There's more than one way to skin a cat, you can have your cake and eat it too its just that the recipy has to be right. Have you gat your own vid posted or is your life not interesting enough?
@34groome isn't the reason this river is good for fishing because the flow is controlled by a dam already? you say about different ways to skin a cat... well isn't what they are doing the best way to do it! when NZ pushes the limit of our current supply i hope you remove your house from the national grid so the rest of us can continue living with power. and no i have a busy job so making videos sitting on a river bank all day everyday is out of the question i have more exciting things to do.
Johnny back in my lake brunner lodge guide days ,i feel in love with the Arnold , i guided it 100's of days ........the river made People from all around the WORLD HAPPY..good on you THIS RIVER SHOULD BE LOOKED AFTER for all....
Trust power you should be ashamed of the distruction you propose to do to this natural oasis.
Johnny fantastic footage, fishing, native surroundings ,a very special part of the world
Good on you for bringing this scheme into the publics eyes to show just how tiny, one sided these big corperate companies are, only thinking of that extra dollar in the back pocket at any cost, AAAAARRRRGGGHH
