Actually Mcshoot, they are. You can google an ask cecil article about whether they're dark meat or light. There's a canal by my house that was made to serve as a pen for them so early settlers could butcher them at will (near Deerfield). They're not good for anything else, actually.

Kind of makes me feel guilty we used to eat these when I was a kid in the 60s and 70s. Hey, I was just a kid; I didn't kill them, but still... Sometimes they got tangled in the mullet nets and drowned so it wasn't exactly like they were always killed on purpose, but sometimes I think my uncles did kill them unnecessarily. It's a white meat, and no, it doesn't taste like chicken. Sometimes when I tell people that we ate these they think it's just a story, but it happened.
