This officer actually got a very harsh penalty for police in losing his pay while suspended. A suspension with pay is like a reward. Paid days off are the best thing you can ever get at work. @jackarf1 true, but it has more to do with officer safety. the quicker that they can take a person down, the less chance there is for an officer to be injured or possibly killed. Plus, having been tased and hit with a baton before, trust me, the taser is much more pleasent. Not so much when it is happening, but it only lasts about 20-30 seconds as opposed to a beating, which can last minutes and you will be feeling for the next few weeks.

Actor was non-compliant with MULTIPLE verbal orders from the officers and was actively resisting their efforts to move him to a patrol car. Instead of pulling out a baton, they opted for a more manageable way of gaining compliance. Suspending the officer for two weeks without pay for this ? He probably saved the department a bunch of money if they would have used a more hands on approach which would have more than likely involved a lawsuit...
They did handle it, they shocked the guy for a few seconds instead of tackling him to the ground where he could have headbutted or bite them. Why should they waste their time wrestling with him when they can just tase him and put him in the back of a police car in half the time?

Had just taken my beagle to the park, and she was barking when he approached my window. He said to me, "If you don't shut that dog up, I will! I'll shoot it I swear." His demeanor is what was causing her to bark like crazy. Finely, I got her calmed down. That kind of officer has no place in a civil society.

Its pretty obvious by now that there is a good chance that there is a meathead cop on duty in a town near you.
Unless you like seeing stars, and risking permanent soft tissue damage:
1) Address Police with respect.
2) No Sudden moves!
3) Keep mouth closed, unless asked a question and keep answers short and courteous.
Accept the outcome of the encounter and move on.

2) Expect the Officer to act entirely within the confines of the lawful authority he is bound to, while acting myself entirely within the bounds of the lawful authority I am bound to.
3) If the Officer steps outside of those bounds, accept his actions, and look forward to my eventual pay-day, and the destruction of his professional life.

I'm the Master - the Cop is the Servant. If ever you find yourself in a situation where those roles seem reversed, 9 times out of 10 it's because you, alone, have let them become reversed. People too often refuse to seize the power they have. They are in our employ, not the other way around.

@archangel0829 Unfortunately there is a huge double standard. A member of the public gets jail time, while an officer gets suspension, most often with pay, for the same offense. This officer actually got a very harsh penalty for police in losing his pay while suspended. A suspension with pay is like a reward. Paid days off are the best thing you can ever get at work. Only assault charges like anyone else and the same jail time as anyone else will start to discourage police brutality.

@jackarf1 actually they are used to get someone who is beligerent, assultive or non cooperative to comply. They can be used for defense, but normaly they are used in place of a baton.

@jackarf1 true, but it has more to do with officer safety. the quicker that they can take a person down, the less chance there is for an officer to be injured or possibly killed. Plus, having been tased and hit with a baton before, trust me, the taser is much more pleasent. Not so much when it is happening, but it only lasts about 20-30 seconds as opposed to a beating, which can last minutes and you will be feeling for the next few weeks.

@jackarf1 oh, don't get me wrong, in this case I agree, there is no need to tase a guy who is cuffed unless, somehow, he got your gun or something. In this situation where he is already cuffed, if he was still being unruley, they should have just picked him up by his arms and feet and put him in a car on his belly. This was definately bad judgement on the officers' part.

Of all the law enforcement officers in the US, only about 2-5% are bad. All together, the US, UK and Canada have the lowest levels of corruption in their given justice systems.

Actor was non-compliant with MULTIPLE verbal orders from the officers and was actively resisting their efforts to move him to a patrol car. Instead of pulling out a baton, they opted for a more manageable way of gaining compliance. Suspending the officer for two weeks without pay for this ? He probably saved the department a bunch of money if they would have used a more hands on approach which would have more than likely involved a lawsuit...

2) witnessed corrections officers order the beating of inmates (Diane Sawyer did a special on this corrupt prison)

Actually the conviction I was speaking of was appealed and I won. So I'd say it makes me an expert on what cops can sometimes do.
Second, last time I checked, McDonalds's workers don't have a position of authority and power. I doubt that the drive thru girl has threatened anyone's civil liberties lately.

I wasn't complaining about the times I have broke the law, or the crimes I was guilty of. I was talking about the time a cop lied in court to get a conviction, that crime i was innocent of.
And secondly, I wasn't talking about "most" police officers. Just the assholes!

Yeah I don't think i'll be resisting arrest anytime soon so I think I'll be singing this tune until that happens.... I still honestly don't think this guy was abusing his power. I think if the guy was in handcuffs and on the ground when he was tazed it would have been wrong but if he's resisting and gets away from the officers he can easily kick someone in the nuts or bite them. The handcuffed guy isn't life threatening but neither is the taser.

You don't have to be resisting arrest to fall victim to an officers abuse of power. I got pulled over one day because one of my tail lights was out. Had just taken my beagle to the park, and she was barking when he approached my window. He said to me, "If you don't shut that dog up, I will! I'll shoot it I swear." His demeanor is what was causing her to bark like crazy. Finely, I got her calmed down. That kind of officer has no place in a civil society.

@microflex22 - i learned that lesson the hard way when i took a trip to Cali, Sacramento to be exact.... i was outside in a no shirt and just pajama bottoms smoking a cig outside my non smoking hotel room, the cops came up.... surrounded me demanding me to get down with guns drawn..... i threw my cig a few feet and got on my knees and put my hands behind my head... a female cop then came from behind running and kneed me in the back smashing my face in2 the concrete along wit a gun 2 my head
