you have to use the front end of the loader for traction and kind of pull your self out with the bus behind you

You see what you want to do is get a professional recovery company to send out something with a BFO winch on it and with the recovery unit firmly on solid ground they can pull him out. The tractor might be able to pull out cars, but that's a 20t bus.

As for why he's there. We all make mistakes, and he was probably just following directions.

I'd hazzard it would be about £2000 for a pro recovery ;)
