He lets go of the racket too late with his left. Also, his head never turns completely sideways. Both these add up to an awkward follow through as he is fighting over-rotation. Having said that, he gets great results with his stroke.
Is it an impression of mine, or is it a bit "unusual" backhand? I don't shoot with my wrist inflected so much. Maybe he doesn't turn the racquet too much when he brings it back to prepare his shot. What do you think?
James Blake, Roger Fed, and Rich Gasquet have the most beautiful backhands I've ever seen in my entire life! DAmn I'd love to have any one of those 3 backhands. Please! I'd be so good at tennis then.
hes from the nigger lands where them slaves were sent to live you know, in the crack of the butt of the unwanted lands (Africa) and that backhand sure is nigger fosho hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Blake is my fav player but unfortunately he is gettin old and his game is gettin slow not like before, like in QFs of the US open 2005 vs Agassi, in the QFs of the Beijing's vs Federer, or in the first round of the US open 2008 vs Donald Young, there his game was faster and stronger, but still he is a pro. d-_-b
its not that blakes a bad player....but compare his backhand with federer's, rogers backhand is simply amazing to look at and also deadly accurate (minus the times when it hits the nets and also when the ball bounces too high) but still...a pro's a pro
Head still, great shoulder turn, eyes firmly on the ball, smooth follow through and a world of pain for the player on the other end of this superb backhand
Not comparing Blakes backhand to Feds but as THECHOSEN00001 states: is your comment more to do with the fact that Blake is Black? You need to get out more...
no I'm not racist at all, I think Blake is a good player, his forehand is great, and Tsonga in particular is one of my favourite players... just never liked his backhand much.
And that's why you tear him down to see completely incompetent...piquante...well i'll tell ya he's not Federer, but Federer isn't exactly the best right now, but regardless, he's good, considering the many tennis players out there who remain unheard of.
its a very mediocore backhand. In fact if i had too choose between his backhand and mine... honestly id choose mine. When i first saw blake play when he was like 17 i thought he was very exciting, lots of talent. he just hasnt developed his game at all which has been his down fall. Hes a very average player in the last five years im really amazed hes been able to stay in the top ten for so long.
yeah and what's your head to head record against Federer? "...between his backhand and mine... honestly id choose mine. When i first saw blake play when he was like 17 i thought he was very exciting.."
my whole point is: "c'mon don't exaggerate that his backhand is that bad as to prefer a non-professionals (yours?) over his". it's not the best... but it's not the worst.
@AceGuitarR7 you're an idiot if you'd take your backhand over Blake's. You're a nobody while Blake is of course a professional Tennis player. Just because you haven't seen him get better doesn't negate the fact that he has stayed in the top of the Men's tour. Goodness I love Youtube - filled with morons who are so pathetic that they have to bash professionals who are obviously a lot better to make themselves feel not as normally pathetic.
@lostintravise every basher needs a counterbasher, doing it for the exact same reasons... But this makes me the third basher, so I will add something positive to counterpraise my counterbashing. You used capital letters and punctuation. Good choice.
blake is one of my favourites hes got a beautiful game a great forehand but i never liked his backhand very much, it looks completely stiff compared to federers or gasquets it looks he seldomly can generate pace on it

actually you can see in the first one he moves his head and looks where the ball has gone. poor form, mediocre backhand IMO when compared to Fed.
