This is a ship free falling through the atmosphere in a hopeless battle in the middle of a bloody, gritty revolution against a tyranical oppressive regime, with people dying left right and center.

Same tactic was also devastating when used in Starship Troopers at Big K with tthe Bug "Tankers" easily hitting fleet ships and drop ships(before invsion forces overwhelmed/outnumbered on ground)

This new version of Galactica broke new ground on what a sci-fi adventure show could do onscreen. It had Technical concepts never thought of before and it had story ideas never presented before.
