16 was pretty inquisitive and cynical, but I wouldn't call him a dick. He did go completely out-of-his-mind-batshit-insane from the bleeding effect, he knows more about what's going on than anyone except for Desmond(when the game is fucking over and he gets the glowing arm tattoo, btw) and what's left of him has been trapped in the basic programming of the animus since before Abstergo even found Desmond, so I think he's entitled to be cynical.
I was thinking about it the other day, in AC II when you solve 16s puzzles "The Truth" is revealed in that video when Adam and Eve have the apple - but then it cuts and no light is ever shon on it again. Then in Brotherhood, again once you solve all of 16s puzzles, he appears and talks to Desmond and says "find Eve"
I was disappointed with 16 in the game, they built such a mystique around his character that I kind of expected more from him than what I got. When he appeared, I thought he was a bit of a dick. Which is a shame, because the situations that surrounded him that whole time led the player to be sympathetic for his character. But when he finally gets deleted, I just didn't care for him at all.
I was also very disappointed by how much we didn't get to see of 16 (Hell, we didn't even learn his name in game! You have to use outside sources to figure that one out!) At the end, he was as much a mystery as when we first saw him.
But maybe that was intentional. 16 will always be a mystery; it's part of what makes him intriguing. As for him being a dick, I didn't feel that. He was blunt, cryptic, and cynical, but that was all to help Desmond (and because he was a bit crazy).
In Revelations, he also feels like a completely different person. When he appears in Brotherhood, he sounds pitiful and worried. In Revelations, he is fearless and direct. If that was because of his madness, then I would have liked to see deeper into his psychology.
Because it was his final appearance, the player should have at least got a tiny bit more insight into his character, obviously leave a bit of ambiguity surrounding him, but at least give us a few answers.
