  • its ironic may linux sw r made in windows, also the user manuals r made in office 2003 or 2007. its ironic, right?.

  • Great video, if I may suggest, I would suggest dual booting to make the transition easier. For anyone who isn't aware, it means that you choose between Ubuntu (or whichever distribution) and microsoft at the start up right after BIOS. That way if you need to use microsoft for any reason (games or whatever) then you just restart into microsoft. Eventually you'll see that you hardly ever (if at all) go into it.

  • Ubuntu saved my old family computer ^_^ Now I have my own computer

  • Windows XP Activation ByPass (might work on Vista)

On YouTube Search, Search for starkist1480 and click on the first video.

    New Value: FF D5 71 D6 8B 6A 8D 6F D5 33 93 FD

  • Way to go Brian!

I tried Ubuntu - it's cool, but I ended up going with PCLinuxOS - way easier transition for Windows people.

Easiest way to make the change = 2 Hard Drives.

Leave the cover off the 'puter & switch the cable back & forth as needed. I did that & eventually I stopped using the XP hard drive completely!

  • good job

  • i presume u mean unix ,why the hell sco are worse the microsoft, any how linux dont use unix legal battles have proven that, anyhow just dnt use the ms os . open source is the future use use use , never say UNIX its f"*&ing evil, ubuntu is sweet but mandriva all the way , mandriva is a much simpler interface for beginners or even pclinux os kde all the way wait a minute what did u say at the end there :)

  • IT IS LINUX NOT LUNIX !

  • it can be pronounced either way, accents of the world...

  • To User LinuxTron:

If your not able to activate windows, than why not cheat sometimes? LOL. Well hey doing this won't cause spyware or viruses, well maybe some viruses, but not spyware.

    DJOE2 QUOTE:

I found out actually that you can use WindowsVista on multiple computers by hooking the hardDrives up to the original BIOS...

  • i dont know if this is an old video, or microsoft has since changed its policy. i've been able to reinstall vista more than 5 times already. i constanstly change hardware and when its needed i reinstall windows. i go online and if it doesnt activate, all i do is call then number on the screen, add all the codes and then they give me a code to enter on my system, and thats all. windows is then activated. you just have to tell microsoft that its only installed in one computer.

  • if people can install vista they can also try ubuntu it is really good and free and no viruses or spyware on linux systems

f*ck slow vista that eats all your memory

  • Great video you made. I use Ubuntu by my own, already for years. I'm using it right now. It's like heaven. It even saved me working all night; I was working on my Windows 98 laptop for a project for school. It was almost finished, and then... indeed. Blue Screen of Death. So then, I popped in my copy of Ubuntu and copied my file I was working on to my flash thumb drive. Ubuntu is the best!

BTW: I'm not saying Windows or Apple is bad, it's just that I like Ubuntu more.

  • Yeh ubuntu is very windows friendly. My external hardrives (NTFS file system) were unreadable by Mandriva linux, with ubuntu - they all read straight away, also mp3, and mpeg2 worked immediately with no issues. The next test was to use WINE to run windows apps, took about 5 minutes worked perfect! GO Ubuntu!!!

  • Guinness rocks!

  • I found out actually that you can use WindowsVista on multiple computers by hooking the hardDrives up to the original BIOS that activated it in the first place, so, in english hook the hardDrive up to the orginal computer that activated Windows to activate and than put the hardDrive back in the newter computer.

  • Weird.

  • thats cheatin man !!

  • Say if Windows Vista is giving you a hard time, why didn't you just use Windows 2000?

  • I still use Windows XP.

Windows Vista still has problems, also requires certain hardware, just like XP, yes the silly "NO MULTIPLE MACHINE", and more system hungry than EVER!

The problem is theres going to have to be a bigger push towards OpenSource, because so, many things are still ONLY compatible with InternetExplorer, like Online Anti-Viruses.

However, I'll admit Ubuntu is a great attempt against Microsoft.

  • You're very true about that Internet Explorer-thing. Indeed, it's very important to keep everything compatible, because else nobody can work anymore. But you can also install IE on Linux; first install Wine, then search on Google for IEs4Linux (yes, the s belongs there). Then, you can still run all the internet-things you might be not able to run on Ubuntu in Firefox or a different browser if so.

  • good job

  • hahahah 40 year old

  • I have used the same Vista key for close to a year now on one of my demo machines with 0 probs. Every 4-6 weeks the machine is gutted and rebuilt too. Linux is good for the hobbiest that likes to dick with drivers, but not ideal for the plug and play grandpa that wants to DL pics off his new camera and print them on his 8 year old printer, or for cutting edge gamers that want to play the newest titles TODAY not a month from now waiting for compatibility for the game or their SLI set ups.

  • 1 - I never have to dick with drivers. With me, Ubuntu recognizes EVERYTHING I've got, even my phone without installing ANYTHING...

2 - There are alot of camera's in the Hardware Database of Ubuntu, so you can just relax and plug in that camera. It will work.

3 - Games? Install VirtualBox and run Windows XP / Vista in a virtual machine!

  • linux, gnome... all the different free / cheap OS's don't need cheap skates. IT NEEDS DEVELOPERS... people who will dedicate their time/money to making the software better... remember you don't get anything for free... for example shit is free and its not very good

  • Hey "Makotze" give Steve Ballmer a nice wet kiss. TechAnvil: Didn't know about the 2 times only install of Vista. Just ONE more reason I'm not going to install "THIS" operating system. Nice presentation for those considering the switch. M$'s licensing schemes have become a joke. They can have their P.O.S operating system.

  • dude ur a liar.

  • is he a liar??? give me prove makotze

  • try ubuntu ultimate edition its is awesome prepackaged clean sleek has beryl and the best linux games i could go on but it is a step foward for linux desktop

  • vista does suck, i am thinking about getting linux it looks pretty cool.

  • Dude, c'mon. You can't tell me you didn't see these things coming from Microsoft. The strangle hold gets tighter every year. I switched my desktop out to straight Linux in 2003.

  • Thanks Brian For All The Help You Post On YT

  • thank this were good informations i heard about kunbuntu but i think i am going to use my old one ubuntu

  • Nice one, this is the firs one I saw of TechAnvil, heading for more... I've been dual booting for over 8 years now and came a couple of months ago to the conclusion that Windows became obsolete (at least to me). Just kissed the mallware goodbye ;-)

  • You can also do (on a Debian based distro) "sudo aptitude install gnash" (Or if you're running KDE, "klash")

  • Nice examples bout the reasons why M$ is not the ONLY answer but the last on OSs.

Now... u forgot about the most important part of this: LINUX IS FREE, ALL THE APPLICATIONS LIKE EMAIL CLIENTS, CHAT APPZ, OPEN OFFICE ARE FREE!!!!! you can install linux as MANY times as you want on whatever computer u wanna, wont cost you a penny.

  • vista sucks

  • Hi, TechAnvil. I think it's good for folks to take the Linux plunge. knowing a bit of dos navigation would be a primer for Linux cli. (After knowing about ls, cd, cat, sudo, make install, tar, vim, top, init, ifconfig and chmod...they're more-or-less a guru!) SuSE is good to start with, because of YaST, which is a 'friendly' control panel. They can then try the ncurses yast to get used to the cli.

  • Firefox comes with ubuntu but its not a very good browser. Its comparable to explorer. I think i have installed 20 extension. I stopped using firefox after i knew how unsafe ut was and changed to opera. And i have more features in opera on default than in any oher browser i know of and runs on many platforms.

  • I am warming up to Opera. It seems faster.

  • I dislike Firefox on Windows. I think it uses too much memory and feels very tight and bulky. I have no problem using it on Linux though.

  • @TechAnvil i love opera it is amazing

  • dudeurule

  • gnome is much faster than kde. Moreover it s extremely clear.

  • Really great post, man. Thanks for spreading the word.

  • I'm 95% in ubuntu and on this laptop only run win in vm. Nice vid...I just posted one walking through a few of the things you talk about. Someone out

  • THAT's what kubuntu is! I'm totally getting that after I find my bigger drive. NOT Windows (Ubuntu in this case) is totally awesome. NOT Windows runs like a dream on the same box that Windows XP wouldn't do anything useful on given at least 5 seconds.

    Wonderful presentation, thank you!

  • Pfft! So don't buy another copy!

Or... will it be disabled via aid of the internet?

    Wankers.

  • Do you have an Yahoo! ID?

  • i already moved 6 months back from win to fedora. regd gnome & kde, i agree kde is a little better but gnome based on gtk is free(cost), kde based on qt(trolltech) squeezes you if you decide to use for commercial purposes

  • love the end bit the gnome people are coming for you

  • Good! It was nice to see that video. You look right into the camera, no slips of the tongue... very good.

Aaaand... I like Gnome better... ;-)

  • LOL, thanks.

  • And I like gnome better as well! You're WRONG just WRONG!:-)

  • Excellent video. I haven't been able to make the jump to a full blooded *nix user yet, but knowing there are people out there like yourself makes it easier to experiment more and more than I do now.

  • Glad to hear it! Going cold turkey is extremely difficult, especially if you are a gamer. The strategy I use is to do as little as possible on Windows. It minimizes my risk catching a virus or spyware. With normal surfing, Unix works as well as Windows.

  • Started fiddling with SuSe tonight actually. :)

  • Sweet! Let me know how it goes. Last year I pulled the five major distros down and loaded them all. SuSe was one of my top picks. I may do that again when I get around to the desktop.

  • I didn't like how Ubuntu locked out the root account, and SuSe went to black screen with the X cursor whenever I logged off and got stuck there, so I went back to Fedora. :-\ Now to get YouTube to work in Linux. :-)

  • You Tube does work in linux. All you have to do is install the flash player once you access youtube. root commands are accessable by typing in "sudo *the command*"

  • I actually wound up with a Kubuntu installation, and got it working well. Vanilla Ubuntu kept freezing on me. =(

  • Or you can do this: sudo su - (enter your user password) passwd (enter your new root user password twice)

Voila! Now you have a root user with password.

    Dave

  • Hey man. Good vid. I really like the humor injected at the end! :)

  • Thanks! Not as polished as yours, my set is actually my home office. Glad you liked it.
