@Konachn4ever ive been in guilds where loot is done by rolling, it sucks, it doesnt motivate people to show up and down bosses in the same way dkp does. The only behavior it motivates is rolling on loot which may or may not be the best upgrade available, but the loot you have the best odds of getting, even if it is a better upgrade for someone else.

With DKP (which is not perfect) your raiders are allowed to judge the worth of a piece respective to their class and spec and bid appropraitely.
