You just cant sell a 40ft product for under 60 000 dollars and have it be anything other than junk unless you are willing to invest in laser CNCs, better quality steel, and multi million dollar paint booths. Bluebird and Carpenter got hit hard from not having the capital. Navistar and Freightliner barely made the 07 and 2010 emmisions and even that is conterversal. Its tough out there now and states expect better products in a shrinking budget world. Look for a huge dip in the bus market soon.

@rewindablender The problem whith this question is before 06 all busses were were pretty much junk. Rust issues, fit and finish, paint, ans engine troubles. Ask anyone who has a heavy series pickup from the eighties with a small bore cummings, or powerstroke. Junk. The govement clamped down in 07 (kinda) on emmisions and unless you had a mother company writing the checks you were out of business. Even IC (ward, amtram) used GM and ford chassis. For the future, I would go with IC,

Ward was started many decades ago, became American transportation, bought by international placing the international logo on a few busses pre 07 emmisions and then to clear up confusion from dealers, I.C. LLC.. was formed in 07. From a pure bottom line stand point it made sense to sadly close the origial plant in Conway Arkansas down to fabrication only, movong all production to Tulsa located off mingo raod in an old Boeing building.

Pine Bluff,AR school district bus #58,a Chevy 60 with a Detroit 8.2L diesel engine that was a Ward.I rode it from 1sr-3rd grade back in the mid 80s.We got that bus in the middle of my 1st grade year.

Ward was over around 1992/1993. After 1992/1993, the AmTran name began to appear on buses.

By the way, I'm from Louisiana, too! I'm from Lafourche Parish.

Actually thomasfreightliner, you are wrong. The AmTran logo did not appear on buses until about 1991/1992. AmTran did not come into the picture until 1991/1992-ish.

Also, IC has changed their name to IC Bus.

Well I did say the AmTran logo appeared on the buses in the "early 90's" That includes 1991/1992.

Well to answer your question this bus body co. started out as Ward Body Works in the early 1930s. Ward filed for bankruptcy in the late 70s. In 1980 Ward was bought by a group known as the American Transportation Corporation (AmTran). AmTran was still producing Ward buses until the early 90s. Then they started putting the AmTran logo on the buses. In 2000 they started manufacturing the ICs, a new conventional school bus. The first IC models still had the AmTran logo on them

and for a short time the International logo from 2000-01. In '02 the co. changed its name to IC Corporation and the bus models were now called IC CEs.

@thomasfreightliner I originally started driving a school bus in Virginia Beach VA in the 70's. My bus was a 72 International with a Ward body and to this day, it is the best bus I have ever driven.

Unfortanately i havnt ben on any Wards. Just 1 Amtran my whole life! My county sold them al wen they had that huge recal scare! From 2000-2004 I had a Thomas Vista which i fel in luv with! Then in '05 i had an Amtran FE. Then in '06 i went bac 2 a Vista! 2007-2008 I was lucky enuf 2 be the 1 bus that got a brand new 2007 International RE! 08'-PRESENT iv had an International FE! Thats prety much what my county consists of except 2 Blue Birds. And sum Short buses that rnt Vistas bus r Thomases!

Where I go to school theyve had 8 Ward busses:

-five 1988s, 70 pass. on Intl' S-1700 chassis (# 6,7,8,14,17; 17 was ret. 1996, the rest 2002)

-one 1988s, 18 pass. on GM chassis (#m3, ret. 2002)

-two 1996s, 77 pass. on Ford B-750 chassis (#9,17; still in service unfortunatly)
