Interesting show (and I agree that it would be great if the Disney Co. still made entertaining historical/educational shows like this) but some of the "history" recounted here seems like bunk. A bit over-dramatized, with the hordes of witch hunters chasing cats through the streets of Europe . I'm sure they needed a dramatic hook to get across the point that sometimes cats were associated with witchcraft , but it plays very corny and contrived. Real history is more complex and nuanced.
@MrBongers Um, cats were hunted down by the hundreds and brutally killed, often in truly horrifying ways, as were human 'witches', which were usually elderly or widowed women, as women who were not producing children were hated and seen as useless in those times. That's not dramatization, that's fact.
omg that was awesome. i expected this to be like a cat story or something but this was even cooler! :D CATS AND DOGS ARE BOTH AWESOME IN THERE OWN WAYS :) They both try to be as cuddly, helpful, and little stinkers at the same time xD but not all animals are like that xD
cats r awesome. i cant get the cat mummy out of my head though. and who is really THAT dumb to beleive that a cat is the devil? how can something so furry and cute and sweet be a devil. i have a cat named Ling-Ling! she can't meow, but she talks! she's said stuff like 'hello?' and 'HELP!' she only says help when i give her a bath. too cute! :D
Lies! Not all cats can catch rats. In fact, rats can gang up on cats and kill them. However, the cats that can catch rats are worth their weight in gold.
@NaiTaiDai Rats had a bad reputaiton because there were not enough cats to keep them from spreading the bubonic Plague, AKA the Black Death, that wiped out millions all over Europe.
I disagree with the idea that rats themselves were the sole cause of the plague. They merely carried the fleas that caused it. But aside from that, I like this video. *hugs my own cats* They're such lovely animals. Rats are too, but cats are cuddlier.
The anti-rat propaganda burns my britches. Rats are perfectly respectable animals and also can make good companion animals. They didn't even spread the plague - fleas did.
I totally agree! I have them as pets and it drives me nuts when people bring up the disease thing (as if mice are saints in this scenario). Plus, rats cure more diseases through their use as lab animals than they have ever caused. Cats, on the other hand, are more destructive on the native environment: in Australia, they have caused the extinction of the Lesser bilby, a type of marsupial. It's for this reason that I believe cats should be kept indoors, not let outside to kill wildlife.
It's possible that this video was made before they realized that the fleas were the true spreaders of the plague. (Similar to how it's now known that cats have been around for much longer than ancient Egypt's heyday.) Unfortunately, the rats still played an unwitting part - where they spread, the flea spread.
However, pet rats are lovely creatures. ^.^ Cats and rats are among my favorite animals, and both make wonderful pets.
Walt Disney was a great cat lover. He once said, the average house cat is ten times as smart as the average dog. I personally prefer cats too. Cats are clean. Cats are cool. Cats are nobody's fool.
aww kitties is so cute. i hate it when the human betray the cat because of theirs stupid superstition. i mean without the cat, will will all die due to the rats. haha i workship my cat like crazy.
i luv me kitty! Kala I <3 U oh and if only Disney would have continued making these kinda things, they are a great way for kids to learn history (even if not ALL of wat is said is true) better than Hannah M. show or High SChool Musical (not offense ppl) :]
I love cats.

Rats and cats had a bad reputation in the Dark Ages, didn't they?
If you want to demonize anything, demonize the harmful parasites, right?

You rat lovers should watch the beginning of the movie, Inglourious Basterds. There's some good dialog about rats in there!

My respect for Walt Disney has just been raised substantially. =)
This cartoon does the cats a great justice, and what it says is very very true. ^_^
I have two fat lazy kitties here at home, and I love them dearly. ^___^
