You also have to acknowledge a country knows rulers who have the power with their police, courts, military and on the other side subjects or tax slaves that cough up the money for those institutes under threat of violence. The rulers benefit from the money they loan, as they spend it and the slaves have to pay it back. That goes for every country/tax farm

I get the impression that libertines see themselves as "natural men" or something like that. They do not see themselves being led around by the nose and entrapped by class. They sound like basic populist republicans and it seems you would have to be a little dim to tolerate that contradiction. They are comfortable with 4 or 5 million people homeless or 2 or 3 million people imprisoned but they are uncomfortable with the idea of a living wage.

@debtinterest Nice point. Paul is not really a Republican but a Libertarian in GOP colors and the Repubs know it. That's why the party hierarchy will never support him. Paul is a racist and the trojan horse for what passes for Libertarianism which is really fiscal conservativism divorced from the GOP big tent strategy that includes religious righters and other assorted nuts. Real libertarians don't exist.

Just today there's another fake war in Somalia, where Exxon drills. The muslimists (100% of somalians are muslim) get guns from CIA and the opposing force get guns from CIA. If they don't have the money, and that threatens to stop the fighting, UN grants either side "aid". That's just one war, there's 50 others going on in Africa at the moment and all sides are funded by our tax money, gas at the pump, and fees to the UN.

You can find many of his lectures online or you can order them from his website. His books are excellent; I highly recommend them. Just keep in mind that he's very different from Chomsky in that he doesn't disregard Marx or Lenin.

Everything the UN does results in profits for the investors and debt for the lenders, and that's us. Almost all african leaders have their "education" in London, just like bin Laden. Then they go back to their country and start getting billions in our tax money as "aid" which they use on tanks, missiles and so on to f*ck their own country so it can be sold off.

Those things are connected to the UN. I tend to think of these things as separate, because these are the parts that the imperialists use. But the UN itself has other parts that aren't at all nice to the rulers of the planet. Ever notice that very few resolutions of any strength are passed through the Security Council instead of the General Assembly? Those more democratic parts are always condemned in the US as ineffective, which they are-- by design. Still, a real UN could be effective.

yeah, i noticed ;) That's how it was intended to work. The UN was set up to bypass the US congress if democracy gets in the way. It's a private corporation just like the fereral reserve and EU. The UN things are are not separate, they work co-ordinatedly from the top. The Rockefeller family that owns the federal reserve and all 7 world's biggest oil companies A real UN would be one that wasn't owned by people who have 400 trillion dollars they control (that's about 8 world's GNP's).

All of that is true. However, there are still areas where they do not have hegemonic power. I don't believe in humanitarian interventions, because it's impossible for one to happen with this current political and economic system. The US has never done a humanitarian intervention in its history.

Not the UN but the World Bank and the IMF are lending the money, and the WTO determines the regulations in the Free Trade Agreements. These institutions represent big transnational corporate interests - and guess who benefits?

I learned all this in undergrad, but I'm surprised how many people have failed to learn about how the IMF and World Bank Work. Parenti explains it very nicely.
