  • i love the way she is playing those soft noes. the touch is just so awesome.

  • This is played in a sweet way, but that doesn't make sense because this is BACH!

  • @1Thompsonmusic The only one that doesn't make sense is you. I bet you never saw the score.

  • @tzinacan5243

The fact that I've not seen the score, is irrelevant. The piece is composed by Bach, not Elton John.

  • @Fuckhead274 Not irrelevant: this piece is not from Bach, idiot. You see the name Petri there? Do you understand now?; Oh, nooo! I forgot: you need a brain to understand things.

  • @tzinacan5243

I'd have a FUCKING brain if I didn't keep stumbling into idiots like you on youtube. Fuck off nobhead. Hope you fucking die of aids or something scumbag.

  • @1Thompsonmusic it's actually a transcription by the pianist Egon Petri.

  • Yeol Eum Son was the shining star of this competition. She makes this simple Bach transcription of Sheep May Safely Graze sparkle.

  • I finally made an account juts so I can tell you this: SHAME ON YOU. Shame. On. You. I don't think I've ever read a more distasteful and repulsive comment. This is truly appalling. Your bawdiness is very unappreciated and has absolutely no place in the music world. Please remove your comment immediately and NEVER post anything that is remotely this sickening about anyone's video again.

  • that was meant for vangk0

  • No I will NOT be buying the false Andre Rieu's album thank you very MUCH!!

  • Great Bach would loved this performance. He'd smile.

  • Wonderful! Dear Yeol Eum Son, play more Bach and put it on YouTube!

  • weak at 55"

  • breathtaking performance. bit too relaxed at 2:41 :P

  • Marry me please! :p

  • I listen to this to soothe my soul...

  • I continue to come back to listen to this piece. She makes the music sing. Speechless.

  • she looks like she's playing among the stars - and it certainly sounds that way.

  • this is the best performance of this piece I have heard. most people make it so slow and over do their idea's of musicality, and it becomes very ineffective and boring. she captures it for sure.

  • Even though I like Nobuyuki Tsujii' Chopin and have listen more, somehow Ms. Son's Bach DOES stay longer in my mind.....

  • Her performance is just beautiful !

  • Graceful performance. It doesn't seem that she is playing it to win the competition. She looks so comfortable and it appears that she is playing it for her audience at her own recital.

  • Entrancing!

  • Yeol Eum Son, I love you. It's simple as that.

  • is the piano music projected onto the ceiling for her?

  • just every moment...

  • I learned this piece, but I still cannot make it sound like Son does here. She makes this sound TOO easy! The multiple voicing while maintaining subtlety is so difficult. I think she schooled most of the competitors with her Bach.

  • She chooses to not too much with the dynamics I see. I also wish the few trills could have been a bit more expressive and memorable. Very nice singing with the melody, separation of the voices and musically significant pauses.

  • Another immortal classic performance from Ms. Son. If you think this is impressive musically and technically, you should check out her Chopin's Winter Wind etude shown on KBS elsewhere on YouTube. She was able to actually make that etude sound musical, which was really amazing.

  • where i can find the score..wanna play

  • @muyy1 scribd.com/doc/17674819/PetriBach-Cantata-9-Sheep-May-Safely-Graze just right click on the pictures to save them

  • I play this video at least once a week. It is perfection.

  • This is one of the most effective, beautifully phrased and *voiced* renditions of this searingly soulful of Bach's chorale preludes. This gal won the Silver Medal at the 2009 VCC, AND the Chamber Music award. The setting here is perfect: the black auditorium with points of light, Ms Son's black gown (and hair) - so suggestive of a cosmic radiance that the musical sounds engender.

  • exquisit in Spiel und Ausdruck.

  • How rare a thing is this? The composition, the arrangement, the instrument and the musician - all contribute to this perfect moment.

If malevolent aliens from space ever needed a reason not to destroy our planet, I would show them this video.

    Thanks for the upload!

  • Why'd she choose this lightweight piece for the final round? :/ She has bad luck at these competitions, running into Rafal Blechacz at the Chopin Competition in 2005 and Tsujii and Zhang at the Van Cliburn in 2009.

  • It’s just like Beauty and the Beast. She just touched Bach and calmed him down

  • this is amazingly beautiful! thank you!

  • BEST VIDEO CLIP EVER!

  • Such attention to her sound . GLORIOUS! Musicianly .Meticulous. Her Chopin etudes are a marvel because she can do anything but her magic is her attention to a singing line a perfect left hand . Every layer of voice here is so beautifully &emotionally applied without indulgence. GLORIOUS!

  • beautiful!! she was my favorite. and the rest of her final recital was inredible too

  • vangk0...it must be a terrible burden, carrying all that hate and anger around. Listen to this piece a few more times. It may help.

  • @zotgga

looooool that was a funny line dude

  • @vangk0 ahaha just because you attacked her nationality instead of criticing her music, your comment crosses as completely invalid. Try getting some education. You sound like a screaming monkey.

  • Did I just listen to this 50 times and still can't stop? I don't enjoy playing Bach so much, but this piece just captured my heart. What a beautiful soul.

  • Very very meaningful performance!

  • Beautiful Bach!

  • WONDERFUL !!!!!!

  • I got to see her perform Rachmaninov's third piano concerto here in Greenville, SC on March 27th last month! She was amazing!

Bought a CD with her solo recital and got her autograph. She's a really nice person I think!

  • @classicalmusic29 I would kill to see her Rach 3! I must say I'm really jealous. She also won 3rd place at the 2005 Rubenstein International Piano Competition, in which she performed Rach 3 during the final round. She was 18.

  • wonderfully simple.... i wish she won to prove that u don't always have to play some crazy rachmaninov etude to win a piano competition - this is so lovely althou it probably took her an hour to perfect like this. lol.

  • this piece is so bach lol

  • I love a very impressive ritardando performed around 3:03-3:10 and a beatiful interval where the next phrase starts.

  • That was a superb performance. It's so hard to judge this in competition because the two winning gentlemen (smartly?) picked more complex, dazzling compositions. How to compare it to this subdued composition? Well the guys may have shown off technical brilliancy, but hers had the best emotion. Loved it!

  • @frambosidica

Try not to get 'subdued" confused with such rare, plaintive pianism that is suffused in intelligently-controlled (and difficult) voicings.

Her technical brilliance in this competition was shown to impressive, spinge-tinglinging bravura in the Prokofiev Piano Concerto #2.

    _YESon Admirer

  • that timing around 17-18, it's just melting me down. I love it!

  • @zotgga I totally agree - my favorite part.

  • @zotgga It's like landing in the grass that brings the delay... heavenly beautiful.. :)

  • Lovely. Just lovely.

  • Beautifully played, but a little too fast for my taste.

  • Sitting on a very soft silk

  • Beautiful performance and a very beautiful woman!

  • I too am completely mesmerized by her playing. She is technically brilliant and a great, creative musician. May Son Yeol Eum bring her gift of music to a great many people for a long time.

  • 這演奏洋溢著一種分享的感動~

    把現場的時空霎時扭轉成溫馨的教堂一樣~

    i love it^^

  • Beautiful!

  • I heard that too! Also during the cadenza. I thought it was someone snoring!

  • When you have nothing else to talk about, either she is too good for you or you are just plain lousy, you have to talk about her facial features. You are a pathetic little worm.

  • Just attended a Hartford Symphony concert where she played the Rachmaninoff 3rd. Phenomenal performance that demonstrated her technical ability and maturity. She is the gold medal winner in my book! We will see more of her.

  • Was it me, or did you find that during the second movement of the Rachmaninov 3rd, she was breathing really heavily? I could not see her face from my seats, and it was bothering me that i could not figure out what it was.

  • Sorry, I didn't notice. I sat on the left side of the hall so I didn't see much of her face. I mostly watched her hands. She had said before the concert that she has learned to pace herself during competitions so she can save her energy for the final concert. By the looks of her, I'd say she was in very good shape but the piece is physically demanding.

  • @archerpro101 She didn't perform Rach 3rd. You must have confused her with Di Wu, the only competitior who performed that piece at 2009 Cliburn.

    (She performed Prok 2)

  • @MrYou2ber No, I was not confusing her with Di Wu, but was referring to another performance. She performed the Rach 3rd at a Hartford (CT) Symphony Orchestra performance. This is what I was referring to, not the 2009 Van Cliburn final.

  • @archerpro101 Ah, I see:) I apologize for my assumptions.

  • Great!

  • Great tempo!

  • UNBELIEVABLE!!!

  • I just performed with her this past weekend, and her playing is so incredibly effortless, and even more breathtaking live!

  • What instrument do you play?

  • Beautiful! Great job!

  • The correct title for the piece is "Sheep May Safely Graze".

  • Such a beautiful colours, such a great pianist !!!

  • I think she can play any genres of classical performance with stellar quality. Her best moment in the competition, in my memory, is the Prokofiev Concerto No.2. What an electrifying performance that was... Go to the cliburn website archive to view it. It dominates any other recordings of that piece I have ever heard.

  • oops i was wanting to raise a thumb up and by accident i made it down sorry

  • it's brilliant!! the kind of playing that'll touch people's heart! really nice!

  • i love this piece so much i've listened to it practically a million times, such a beautiful playing!

  • Perfect balance between poem and storyline, based on strong technique. This makes her performance extremely persuasive.

    좋은 연주 감사드립니다 열음님.!

  • Wonderful! (I'm crying.) The new Dame Myra Hess? (authority at a young age. She will become a Master who will cause pilgrimers to cue up!)

  • Very nice and supricing for your ears...nice nice nice

  • I think she is one of the best pianist today... Technique as well as emotions... In my view she was one of the most mature competitors at the Van Cliburn and for me she wins the gold prize... This music expresses me the depth of soul of this young musician... Thank you very much for posting it!

  • Agree wholdeheartedly, FDCRX!

  • I really love her performances~ this piece along with her Spanish Rhapsody during the prelims are definitely her best pieces in the competition~ I hope to hear her more often in the future!!

  • BEAUTIFUL ! She is one of the best pianists of today!

  • so beautiful!

  • whoaaa thats perfect!!! sounds like 2 person playing

  • Can someone please send me the piano sheet for this? Thanks.

Oh, make sure it's Petri's transcription.

  • just beautiful~! T^T

  • I love this. Bravo!!!

  • So beautyful!

  • Whoa...

  • magic did she win?

    i hope so

  • She came second

  • so soft and delicate sound.she should be the winner.defintley good sound.

  • Beautiful! I was greatly touched with her music softly sprung out and resound with our soul. Impressive!!!

  • Bravo! After taking off the thousands of notes that any competitor could easily demostrate, you could hear the love and dedication for music. Thank you for showing us the depth of human soul.

  • She is definitely superior to Di Wu, but I would say and Zhang are very close in ability.

  • simply delectable sound.

  • well , if that is even true ,, you can't say on this page because this piece is quite good on her .

  • Solid performance. Engaging and warm.

  • Her touch is so fantastic. I think she is sound desinger, not a pianist.

  • So delicate and intimate.... I really hoped she would be the winner.....

  • Congratulations, so touching.......

  • oooh this is beautiful! She has very lovely tone and such warmth....ahhhh so good!

  • There is an arrangement of this for piano and choir. It is a moving performance.

  • Her final recital was amazing. She played this piece and Schubert, fantastic.Unfortunately she played also Beethoven and she wasn't that good.I read an interview and she said that she hasn't got the gift for playing Beethoven. She is a great pianist!

  • I want this at my funeral. T_T

  • Wht a beautiful piece! Played with such delicate and sweet touch..

  • Wonderful, deep and moving performance.

I don't think she will be the winner, though......Whatever, the 2009 Competition will stay in our memory as one of the best since it's creation......

  • OMG~~!I love Son SOooooooooo much~~~!hope you get champion~~!
