I have a lot of good memories when I hear UB40 music. The first concert of UB40 I saw was in Maastricht and because it's legal to smoke weet in Holland, half the people at the concert had a joint in their hand . . . . . Great concert !
This single was the gateway to UB40's career in the pop business, and it sadly marked the end of an era........not a patch on anything from their first 3 albums (or 4, if you count 'Present Arms in Dub'), which were classics, IMHO.
I wonder if this song is talking about guns. I am particularly referring to the lyrics "No one's gonna take from me frame or my family, 'cause if they do it's plain to see that they'll get waist".
@evergreenstater It's UB40, I highly doubt that they're talking about firearms. They are most always talking about having fun- nothing serious, like gunplay. From what I can tell, they are quite pacifist. No guns, bombs, racism, killing and/or the like. Just good times, my friend.
@1988acid The only album I've noticed it on is UB-40 Best Of 1980-1983, it could also be on other discs. It's the last track on the disc, which is an extended mix.
Whilst I like the UB40 singer for his songs, he looks ridiculously pink and devoid of ANY visible muscularity. He's led a lazy life. He needs to get to a gym to hold back premature muscle wastage.
Pretty good for a bunch of lads that were on the dole and picked up insruments and learned them from scratch. I liked UB40 a lot more before they began doing covers of other people's songs.
Strange that all of UB40's 1982 releases failed to crack the Top 20. I dig this single and all the material from the album UB44. Most people consider UB44 their last 'good' album. Personally I think Geffrey Morgan from '84 and Rat In The Kitchen from '86 are GREAT, too.
@soulstylist This wasn't from UB44 album but a non-single album just before The Labour Of Love bollocks in 1983.Can not remember this being plugged.
You are right Geffrey Morgan and Baggariddem are great albums but UB44 is a classic and grows on you as a continuous part from Present Arms and before that Signing Off.
My all time favourite video. They look like they had such a great time filming that. I love seeing them dancing and having fun. Love the striped shorts too Astro.
I just love to see old videos of them..i think is just so cool to see how young they were and such kids they used to look..really i love to see Ali in his 20s..hes just adorable, hes pink, hes short, red hair, freckles..how cant you love him? I always loved what Robin does at about 2.22 that move is funny man...and Ali where did you get those leather pants? =)
@dreadtime Really? You can send the tracks? How do you do it. I"d like to have some too :)
