Actually, my great grandfather W.E. Myer wrote this for Dock Boggs and he recorded it in 1929 on Myer's recording label Lonesome Ace.

If you like this version of the song check out Ralph Stanley version its Blue Grass all the way, he made it popular. Its the best version i've heard but Levon's is the second best.
