Impressive Drummers Salute incorporating the older traditional rope tension drums of the 78th Highlanders with the modern Primier drums of most pipe bands today. In my humble opinion regimental pipe bands should perform more with these older style drums and leave the jazzy Primier drums to the civvy bands. Funny how the display started just when the announcer was going into French to explain everything again. This event has been jazzed up to look more like an NS Tattoo in Ottawa. Too bad.
Hey man, I totally agree with you. However, the general civvy pubic seems to enjoy the "sexed" up version more, which, ultimately increases the numbers to the Retreat. There were over 13000 who attended Fortissimo this year. I can't remember the percentage increase but it was significant.
But yes, I completely agree... it should still be just a Beating Retreat.
