The riot shield is far from useless. I don't use it in TDM or Ground war but in SnD it is extrememly useful I constantly put up good scores with it. Most people don't know how to use it though you can't use marathon and charge people with it. You have to be patient and move in on your opponet. Also you want one on one match ups if there are two people you might have some trouble.
