  • Hi In2Tech, at least we're doing something. I searched for some of your videos, ...but alas you don't have as many videos as my hick ass, in fact you don't have any. India may not need help, but apparently you do. By the way, my pronunciation of BeleniX is how to creators of BeleniX told me how to pronounce it.

Whatever the case, I hope you are enjoying BeleniX; technology should be a tool to bring us together, not tear us apart. Have a nice day ;-)

  • im 12 and installing this on my netbook

  • How kool to be installing this at 12 years old! BeleniX is a fun operating system and I know you'll enjoy it. Dang, I bet your 14 or 15 by now, hope your still using it. If you get bored, try using Menuet or Kolibri, they rock as well.

  • Hey Carlton, you are too cool man. BeliniX rocks! I've been using it for say around four weeks now.

  • Thank you intennsive, it was fun to make the video; you should try making one yourself. I still dabble with BeleniX on occasion, though now days I use Open Solaris much more. Sorry to take so long to reply, but better late than never.

  • does anyone know how to get a iso file onto a usb flash drive, i cant find ANYTHING on it, great show by the way

  • Hi Brandon, I sent you an e-mail...probably the best way to find what you are looking for, is to post that question on the BeleniX forum.

    Glad you enjoyed the clip,

    Happy Computing,

    Crltn

  • Hey BrandonTv7, I can't give you step by step instructions, but I know people who can. Ask around in the forums and someone will step up and assist you. That's how I got it installed on mine. Good luck!

  • Great show ;)

  • Hey Zakszirakk,

glad you enjoyed it. It was fun to make. If I get my resources squared away, I will make more.

    Have a nice day,

    Crltn

  • Do you know if its possible to install it on a macbook black With an Intel procesor?

  • Hi daggbsd,

If your running BSD, (and I bet you are) then you should be able to run Open Solaris. I'm just not sure which version. I suggest Open Solaris due to it having more discussions and support. Once you get Open Solaris to install, then use the same process with BeleniX.

I would post this question in the Open Solaris forum, you will get a more definite answer. lol

    Happy Computing, Crltn

  • hold down c on boot to use the cd

  • Cool video. I was thinking of downloading solaris, but maybe i'll try this instead. it looks like you have a nice computer room there. i think i saw a sparc system in the vid.

  • Yes kwg2005,

There was a old Ultra 5 in there, it was running Solaris 10.

That was my desk area during a killer IT internship I experienced. I was responsible for a few tasks but then allowed to pursue whatever I choose; it was sweet.

Belenix is OpenSolaris, with a different twist. Both run excellent and are simple to install.

    Have fun,

    Crltn

  • you're cool as shit mister! thanks for the intro to Belenix, it looks really cool! =)

  • Well now, fibreoptik;

thats the first time anyone anywhere has referred to me as "cool as shit". I take it as given.

Good luck with Belenix, your going to enjoy it.

    later,

    Crltn

  • Haha! Thanks man :)

It's a term of endearment trust me. People just don't use that expression so often, for obvious reasons ;)

  • I misspelled Bulimics on Google and got this! :(

    Just kidding!

Thanks for the intro to the OS. Gotta try it out at work.

  • Ha OmarThePug, the "Bulimics" was funny.

Glad you liked the video and hope your trying it out. It's a refined OpenSolaris clone, sorta. I use it.

What did the fish say when it hit the concrete wall??? "Dam" (One my favorite jokes)

    Geek ya later,

    Crltn

  • Cool vid. You come across very personable and easy going. I like that. I will definately watch a few more of your vids.

  • Hi jasonmanley,

thanx for the positive comments. The vids were fun to make and I encourage anyone to try it, it's worth doing.

I have a lite teaching skills; I have taught First Aid/CPR for many years and done a few other teaching gigs. I really enjoy instructing on something that is a hobby.

    Thanx again for your comment.

    Have a nice day,

    Crltn

  • pretty cool !!

sorry but i still dont really get wats its

    sapost to do !!

    ^^

    but cool video !!

  • Hi Matheus117, yes, BeleniX is kool. What it is supposed to do is; give you a decent UNIX OS with a nifty tool set, like D-trace.

Works right off the cd too, try that with many linux distros and they just don't kick in. (I am not knocking linux, it's okay if you can't use real UNIX.)

BeliniX however, like OpenSolaris, is Most Excellent; other OS's simply won't do.

If one were to consider Windows the beer of OS's, and the Linux's as wine; then BeleniX is the hard liquor. lol

  • Thanx Matheus117,

for the comment. Sorry to take so long to respond but I live in Alaska and have been in the wild for a bit.

Belenix is essentially raw OpenSolaris. The Belenix team, of which most work for Sun, India. They keep up to date and do good work.

Why have it, Operating systems come in many flavors, NTFS, UNIX, Linux, Assembly, Java...it is just nice to have a taste of what all there is to offer.

    Happy Computing,

    Crltn

  • One of the worst presentations I have ever come across. This guy just drawls on for close to 10 minutes and it is so devoid of anything useful. And why does he indulge in some blatant evangelical promotion in the midst of a presentation on Belenix? How are they related? Move on guys, this ain't worth your time.

  • It was done for fun, not profit. Yet it is better than any videos I have seen of yours, oh thats right, you haven't posted any videos.

Frankly, I don't get why you would bad mouth Belenix as it was created and written in your own country, but whatever. You also ask "why does he indulge in some blatant evangelical promotion", well dm130722 its my video and I'll do what I please. By the way, those orphans are in Orissa and need all the help they can get.

  • check out what he really types at 7 mins 4 seconds he doesnt type usbdump LoL opps Nice video

  • I explained it B4, lol. I had a fresh install on the usb drive and didn't want to mess it up. I was afraid if I typed it correctly, I might accidentally hit enter; hence the usbdumb.

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. Glad you liked the video, it was fun to make.

  • Operating Systems and religion should never mix.

  • You know, I really can't argue against that. lol BSD for so long has the little demon and somebody has a dragon (Slackware?). Both are good operating systems and don't need the religious symbols either.

I just happened to know Ginny personally and am happy she is trustworthy. Coincidentally, the orphanages she supports are in India as well as Belenix. I thought the two mixed well.

I understand your comment though, when I am neck deep in an OS, church is the last thing on my mind. lol

  • Would Belenix run on my Sun ultrasparc? or is it x86 only?

  • It should run just fine on your ultrasparc, but better check their website to make sure. I would be surprised to learn it wouldn't, its based on the OpenSolaris kernel and all, it should run on sparc.

  • Hi Carlton,

    Nice presentation. :-)

I really enjoyed your setup there. I counted at least 4 computers!

    Keep it up.

  • Yep, the setup was kool. I was doing an internship for a huge mutual fund, with virtually unlimited resources. I had it during the summer and was pretty much allowed to do whatever I pleased, as long as I did something.

Only the laptop is mine...gosh I miss all those computers and unlimited bandwidth. lol

  • "usbdumb ... [enter] ... command not found"

*lol* - is it an insider or just a dump-mistipe? ;-)

  • "usbdumb" was my bad. I was so excited to be making a video and had never made one before; obviously.

I also had installed on my usb drive, with a little assistance; and didn't want to corupt it.

The good news is, when you visit the BeleniX site they have good data and will respond to request for assistance.

    Thanx for the reply.

  • sucks....

  • What sucks...surely Belenix doesn't suck, it rocks. Certainly you can't be referring to my beloved Governor, she's better looking than any other world leader!

Perhaps it is in reference to my video presentation skills, whatever. Last time I checked you had no videos posted concerning any operating system or anything else for that matter. Tsk tsk, only God can judge me.

Here is a word of advice, "IF CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE, THEN DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL" Whatever!

    Have a nice day

  • An Operating System like BeleniX is worthy of all the praise I can give it. Open Source forever!

  • Listening to you is relaxing.

But after watching 3 of your videos, i still don't get your opening joke about a governor or something?

  • Greetings,

Please excuse the jokes about our fair governor. It is an Alaska thing I suppose, we have had poor leaders for so long, it is refreshing to have a honest one. lol

Glad I am relaxing, but hope I don't put you to sleep. lol

    Have fun with BeleniX!

  • Hi Carlton, i tried to use command "usbdump" to create Live USB. i see it finds the USB drive and it formats as well but i get some errors/warning that i will post once i get a details.

    any ideas?

  • The best thing is to hit the BeleniX web site and start posting. They are brilliant and will respond promptly. Good luck!

  • a couple of points ...

*BeleniX comes with both XFCE and KDE.

*The command to create a LiveUSB is 'usbdump'

And of course. The site is : belenix dot org

  • Great video Carlton! love it.
