  • It isn't fucking auto tune!!!!! Fucking young ass kids, its a fucking talk box. You actually have to be talented to use one!

  • This is how AUTO-TUNE is suppose to be used !!!!

  • I am guessing the "Hypnotize" part was a diss to the East Coast.

  • waittttt i thought this is was 2 pac and dres song? and the biggie biggie biggie!!? i thought that was biggie smalls.... is there something that i don’t know???

  • A talk box require skill to use. You really need to be the shit behind a synthesizer to use a talk box right.

  • talk box is WAY better than autotune. no doubt about it.

  • T pain is autotune... this is talkbox... there a huge diffrence

  • You gotta luvv the dancing Puff Daddy's half way through loool

  • LOL was this a diss?

  • whats the song in the middle of california love?

  • @tommonator Biggie-hypnotize

  • @marquise35 thanks for that

  • T-Pain doesnt claim to be better than Roger, in fact he shows nothing but respect to him.

  • gramham central station was the 1st to use the talkbox, youngstas. in '74. don't sleep on the white boys. peter frampton jammed in '76 with do u feel like we do

  • amazing !

  • OMGG!!! AMAZING!!!

  • Where can i get a metallic suit like that?

  • Roger was the King of the Talk Box....but D.J. Quik is bad on the Talk Box too. To even mention T-Pain in the same sentence as Roger is an insult. T-pain does not use a talk box, he uses an Autotune. just like J-lo, Mary Mary, and several other people.

  • Contrary to popular belief T-Pain and Roger Troutman do not use the same effect. T-Pain uses autotune which adjusts the tone of his voice while Roger uses a Talkbox which adjusts the sound of his synthesizer according to the movements of his mouth. Big difference there people. T-Pain popularized an entirely different thing than Roger did...keep in mind Peter Frampton used a talkbox too....

  • P Diddy...needs to take music cause he cannot write his own....

  • COuldnt no shit like this happen no where but CALIfornia

  • Not really sure why anyone is mentioning T Pain for. Roger and T Pain did totally different things. Roger's tool was a Talk Box (look it up) and T Pain uses Auto Tune (look it up too). not the same thing what's so ever apart from the common factor of a voice. Educate yourselves people, It doesn't hurt to know what you are talking about.

  • wow

  • Yeah ladi dodi is slick rick song, snoop's is a cover version, and biggie's chorus on hypnotize is form that.

  • @wccrko herbie hancock? nah it was herb alpert's track from '79 called "rise"

  • 1:17 Snoop's Lodi Dodi there. Dont know wich one was first

  • i hate how every1 says every one copies t pain.... please this is where t pain got it from rip roger!

  • what?! Zapp & Roger had the "hypnotize" track b4 Biggie? Damn, jus learned something new, good shit...this is music

  • WTF? Where the hell have you been? lol.

  • @ the clinic getting baked

  • This Is BIG I can feel the energy wish i was there. R.I.P. roger, pac n big

  • they played biggie right after pac lmaoo

  • california love is rogers song

  • in my opinion the deeper voice in this video sounds WAY better than the pitched talkbox voice in the original song =D

that rocks, roger is still the king...

    RIP Roger Troutman

  • awesome!

    100/*5*

  • duude

  • synthesizers. ftw

  • synthesizers - wtf?!

    Talkbox^^

  • you need a synth for the talkbox

  • no shit, though you can have a guitar, but both are necessary

  • thats cool how they segue into Hypnotize.

  • It is from the summer of 1998.RIP ROGER.

  • Anyone know when this performance is from??

  • True RIP Eric Lynn Wright, Tupac and Roger

  • rip eazy e and tupac and roger the king ove vocals

  • and t-pain acts like he created this shit, GTFO, RIP to Roger

  • T-pain uses autotune, not a talkbox

  • True But He Credits Roger For It In a song

  • @realrap00 he doesn't act like he created he's just soaking up the fame he got from using it so much, loaded words much

  • @realrap00 not really. T-Pain himself said on one of his raps, "Now lemme get a moment of silence/for the late great Roger Troutman/Y'all n****s ain't holdin him down/So we had to put me at you". T-Pain isn't acting like he did the autotune/talkbox thing first.

  • @realrap00 this is Talk-Box, T-Pain is Autotune.

  • @MusicDushan I'm not a instrument expert, but a talk box changes the voice completely? Autotune keeps traces of thier real voice, but just sets it off balance?

  • @Pooky1991 the talk-box emulates a human voice by sending the sound of an instrument into the throat, and by the muscle memory of speaking what comes out is audible speech, just the sound is the sound of the instrument, Autotune receveives the human voice and modulates it into the desired key, notes, etc :)

  • @MusicDushan OK I get it now. One is basically the iinstrument sound with human speach, and the other just turns your voice into an instrument. Makes sense. I wonder if anyone used autotune before T-pain.

  • @realrap00 this is different than auto tune, it's talk box. Give t-pain credit for autotune, it's way more retarded. Give zapp and roger the credit for the groovin talkbox, it's legit.

  • Roger is the sh*& no one does it like

    "ROGER TROUTMAN"

  • haha yeahhh

    california love ..

    R.I.P Roger, biggie, and 2pac

  • if they created both beats, please slap me in the face

  • What did the five finger said to the face? SLAPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!

  • youtube keeps taking down my strip tease videos W

  • that was the man love Zapp et Roger Troutman for ever ^^

  • wow ... that was ql

  • that was ridiculous.

  • R.I.P Roger and 2pac

  • well said, RIP. Roger and Tupac are 1 of a kind

  • whoaaaa this is freaking amazing! just learned who roger troutman is this week n ive lived to california love a billion times.

  • The tube is part of a Talkbox... which uses a horn driver to push sound thru a tube to make those cools sounds.

  • wow this was not dr dre's song after all .....rap always samples REAL music.

  • This group with Roger Troutman was one of the most entertaining live shows ever.RIP Roger

  • This is the type of music you will always remember and will always listen even if you hear it once or twice.

  • This song by zapp and roger appears on The compilation greatest hits 2 and more. But i don't understand why he split the song with two beats. If he stuck with the first beat for the whole song,it would have been more awesome.Does anyone know why?

  • LOL that thing he does with his eyes reminds me of terry crews the actor and ex-nfl player

  • obviously a classic

  • actually that's not entirely accurate. terry "zapp" troutman did not kill roger. it was larry that killed him, and then he killed himself after leaving roger in an alley and then fleeing in the car. he was found crashed into a tree. terry "zapp" troutman is still alive and making music. on a side note, unfortunately, roger's son, roger II is also dead after attempting to carry out his father's talkbox legacy. he was killed in january of 2003. he released a cd in 2000 called the second coming.

  • how did roger II got killed in 2003?

  • SUPPOSEDLY roger II died from head injuries after a fall, but it is suspected he may have been killed.

  • Apparenty(as far as I know), He was found dead in the morning, right outside his studio, with head injuries. His brother Larry was found dead also in the same day, just a couple of blocks from where Roger was found. Police said Larry killed Roger, then killed himself. All very sad.

  • So Roger's son was killed too? Dam...How?

  • He was shot also. It's all very sad. T-Pain gets on my damn nerves. Roger is the ORIGINAL Mr. Synthesizer. Plus he could sing even more AMAZING without the synthesizer!!!

  • when i was little i used to be scared of his songs because the way he would do his eyessss lol

  • lol that's one of my favorite things about roger, his awesome enthusiasm

  • zapp is the entire band i read in a interview becuz roger used 2 be with paraliment and he had his own group the human body so they took some demos to some record company and used another name zapp is roger's brother nick name and he was standing there at the time so they just came out with zapp on the spot

  • IS HE STILL ALIVE

  • No man... Roger Troutman * 29. November 1951 in Hamilton, Ohio; † 25. April 1999 in Dayton, Ohio) R.I.P.

  • what is that thing in his mouth that makes the voice so cool? :D i want 1!

  • It's called a talkbox. A good talkbox will run u about 150$. You run it through just about any instrument to get a bunch of different cool sounds.

  • check out terry zapp troutman on my single soon to be released.....

  • check out terry zapp troutman on my single soon to be released.....

  • iz Zapp and Roger twins? How did Roger Troutman die?

  • His brother killed him.

  • PimpJSC down below is right..do a utube search for West Coast Poplock-Ronnie Hudson if you want to hear the inspiration for the Zapp/TuPac version..

  • i always jam to this oldskool jam.

  • whats the name of the song at 1 :23? Sounds familiar, just cant remember.

  • its California love from zapp & roger.but 2pac did a song with dre using the same beat & the same name..

so you prolli tlkin bout the 2pac song because it was more popular than the original song.

  • Seems like there's a bit of confusion on here. PimpJSC, Roger Troutman was featured with Dre and Pac, but Troutman along with members of Zapp wrote California Love. Out of respect they brought Troutman along for the single because he originally wrote the song that they were sampling from. Biggie's Going Back To Cali is just More Bounce to the Ounce slowed down and in a different key...

  • I have the original Tupac/ Roger troutman - Claifornia Love Live Performance!

  • can you put in on youtube I would love to see it

  • naw yall got it wrong, tupac didnt get this song from roger, roger was featured on that song with pac nd dre, but Pac got this song from West Coast Poplock-Ronnie Hudson

  • You're dead on homie - I have a tape somewhere in my collection that has West Coast Poplock; that was early 80s I believe.

  • i did not know until now thats where t pac got that song from

  • keep on rocking roger troutman

  • anybody know when this video was made.

  • summer of 98

  • lol my friend makes full songs in like an hour.

    :P

  • Wrong, its not as easy to sample as you think.

  • yes it is. press record and then stop = voila, you've got a sample

  • you're good at taking things very literally.

to make a sample sound good isnt as easy as that. go take a sample and put it in an MPC and rearrange it for me

  • that's not hard. i'm a musician too and i use samplers all the time. slicing and rearranging for example takes time yes, but is easy

  • You could say that about anything, doing it is another thing.

  • but then they perform Hypnotize by Biggie, and they've obviously adapted the song to be more 'rapper' friendly, what about that mr. haterade?

  • :-) but then they performed "Rise from Herb Alpert" you mean? For those who like to know where Biggie got it from, I uploaded a sample from vinyl. I posted it in my files on Youtube. Search for "Herb Alpert - Rise (1980)" in the search bar or click my name to find the link.

fastforward to 3:19 and hear the sample.

    keep up the funk

  • a lot of people hate on rappers because they lack originality and talen

  • Yeah rappers would be way cooler with talens! Sharp ones that could slice a phone book in half!

  • now i kno where 2pac got it from =]

  • Go check out zapptown dot com for tour info

  • Respect!!!

  • "computers computin" now it makes sense lol Love cali love

  • i like california love

  • woman to woman hadd this beat first

  • no ronnie hudson did

  • So did Zapp really do the Tupac and Dre song California Love ? Is that really him ?

  • yess

  • yes he did

  • 100% yes he first did it long time ago and dr dre as a producer he had him to do it with 2pac

  • Mike Tyson isn't that far off. Snoop Dogg was on that stage one of those nights rapping loddi doddi together with Doug-E-Fresh.

  • see see i hate magic's sounds they sound good in tracks but live it sounds like a donkey getting fucked

  • The real thing !!!

  • wow so it was a Roger Troutman track

    tell the kids lol

  • well sorta. The chorus comes from Ronnie Hudson" West Coast Popluck" which Roger and Larry wrote.

  • best ever funk and jazzy music!

  • the greatest of all time, thanks for the art that you left us..

  • OMG! This is classic!

  • mad phuckin sick

  • classic

  • And then Tupac jumps onto stage and bust a verse tee hee.
