  • ur bass drum sound like shit

  • @hlaing74 we heard you the first two times you said it

  • ur bass drum sound like shit

    .....

  • ur bass drum sound like shit...

  • On the quicker tag at 67 o'clock. You had it at four o'clock then its a slow attack. Hiking here on the sound when it's too roomy definitely a slow attack . By the way does that make sense: I did this on Dragon dictation . You're cutting of the first part of the drums

  • i don't understand why the uad demo did not work on my pc when i downloaded it it says no drivers found wtf? i was looking forward to using them but after that uad doesn't sound so good anymore

  • @borneo215 The UAD stuff is hardware based, you need DSP card if I'm not mistaken, that's why they sound so good.

  • @borneo215 The cheapest UAD card is the UAD-2 solo... you'll pay $400 to start, and yes -- it has it's own DSP accelerator built in, so your computer's CPU never has to deal with any processing.

I have 3 UAD cards -- nothing touches them. Period. :D

  • you should try dbx 160 on drums.

  • Great to see and hear the comparissons. Good video. R

  • great advice, thanks!

  • That compressor , 7 is a fast attack and 1 is slow partner. You learned something new today, and whoever reads this. Yes 7 is fast on that compressor. Ur welcome bozos!

  • fml... maybe i need to stop using waves

  • on the BF76 comp at 1:07 he says to "go for a quick attack"...and then he puts it on the slowest.

  • @progjazzfusion Actually the 1176 has reverse settings. All the way to the right are the shortest attack and release times. All the way to the left are the longest. It's useful to know this for when you have to use one. They are common compressors.

  • Informative, thanks.

  • SSL rules, as usual...

  • The raw drum sound is a hundred times better than any of those compressed pieces of rubbish. So much better when the loud hits are actually louder.

  • a problem im having is that my vocals will have peeks like if a say something with a T or something and yes i have a pop filter but its still very loud and harsh on the ears... when i try to compress it the whole track is compressed... do u have any advice?

  • @isreal95 either a multiband compressor a deesser

  • i love how the drums sound best with out any of these wack ass plugs..lol

  • @johnthesoundman Its not necceserily the compressors though the drums didnt sound great to my ears and the settings were mainly overcompressed I've used the digidesign ones and a few other to improve drum sounds.

  • Your website says: "The account is currently not active."

  • I'm not at all familiar about this, I played musical instruments when i was younger, and i found this video very interesting and ear formative. thank you

  • Kit sounds too roomy in the first place

  • McDSP MC4000 is my favorite multi-comp.

  • Rennaissance Compressor is real nice...sounds better on overall mixes, i have worked on. Not all of them, but some real nice character on R&B tracks...real smooth and bold at the same time...

  • Это я пробовал все !как то все очень жестко звучит!

  • I'm sorry, but compressing a whole drum mix just doesn't make sense to me unless you're getting ready to prepare a stereo mix to send for mastering. doesn't sound like any of the individual heads were mixed at all. Though the McDSP showed some promise for the low end

  • to the author of this video:

you're showing off different compressors (and how they sound) - why the hell did you mixed it with your voice and used yet another compressor/limiter over the whole thing?!

    you ruined everything!

    whatever..

  • The voice keyed a compressor on the stereo buss. There's no compression when there's no talking.

  • you should do one for 'the glue'

  • bombfactory 1176 didn't know it had all ratios pushed in like the real deal

  • how come does the ssl compressors treshold starts with +15 on G-master and with +10 on E-channel

  • because the g channel goes to 11. hahah, the g channel has extra boost/cut on everything (compressor / eq etc), despite the extra db, e channel sounds better, imho.

  • The howaudio web sight is gone...whats up? how do i cancel my account? does anybody have any information?

  • I was really impressed with the digidesign plug ins. Not bad for basic plugins.

  • Thanks for sharing! Much appreciated

  • next lets chek out hardware compressors FAIL

  • What mics did you use to record the drums?

  • uuuuh those drumtracks sound nice! very interesting. would like to hear a fairchild on this.

  • I have all the SSL Stuff And Others Comp's SSL Sounds Good. SSL Rules.

  • The SSL was really good!

  • High compression! Wooooo

  • Love the SSL Compressors, good video to show the variations in compressors

  • thanks! Nice video

  • nvm i can hear the differences now..

  • i dnt notice any difference in the sounds when u change the compressions

  • that's because Ur deaf U stupid dumb idiot get some hearing aids

  • @letshajksl u cant get aids in ur ears u stupid cunt you get it from kissing bitch

  • Cool vid, thanks man!

    Chris

    MixDSP(dot)net

  • Excellent video

  • smack is really nice. Very aggressive. SSL, very realistic and even though transients were destroyed, it did not truncate too many frequencies. I love hardware though plugins are starting to sound very close. I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference between a track that uses hardware compressors or a track that used software compressors. Agree, disagree? I would like to hear some opinions. Nice video, change in dynamic range was evident with each comp. Well done.

  • On the HowAudio website you can watch more parts of this video, including the same drum section processed thru hardware compressors from a Behringer Tube Composer to LA3A, 160X, and Smart C2. Punchline: even the cheapest hardware compressors are as good as the best software

  • Neve 2254 is my fav, never used a software version but the physical one is wicked :D

  • Absolutely right. Neve physical compressor are awesome.

  • Only the best ;) lol

    :D

  • dude..u have a very nice soothing voice!

    You should do a record!

  • Great Video

  • The linear phase multiband compresser probably sounds weird because you don't know how to use a multiband compresor.

  • lol

  • The 1176 is my all time favorite basic compressor for drums. I like to use the mutli-band MC2000 as an EQ on the kick or possible snare - very versatile, but it can be a bear to set it right. I like the SMACK , too but, I don't have that one.

  • yeah but setting is the most important.you can use an expensive compressor but if not well set up for what u wanna do result wont be as great

  • yeah now were talking i was listening to some of the clowns at the danielwaves page....this is really good man thanks!!

  • I LOVE the ssl compressor. Very realistic and did not remove to much frequency.

  • Great video! love how much time was put in to it and how he goes thru every comp. its very helpful...post some more videos!!!!!!!

  • I can't here the difference. Better buy monitors soon.

  • MY FAVOURITE VIDEO, WELL DONE!!

  • drummer dynamics! had some really cool snare emphasize...

the ssl bus compressor had very nice softer compression, nothing drastic.

the ssl chanel had nice punch, but sounded very dry.

those were the best, and in that order, imo.

  • Drawmer, dude... not Drummer! :)

  • shit, i read it "drummer"...

    i feel ashamed now...

    thanks for correcting me :)

  • always loved the sound of the outboard LA-2A and 1176 compressors but the plug ins are very good also

  • Thank you for this comparison.

I always want other peoples opinions on compressors. coz a good compressor are hard to find imo.

    Thanks dude!

  • Software, Waves Rcompressor is my goto. Hardware, UA or Avalon my baby's that make everything sound nice :)

  • presets are cool I usually do the same things when I'm skimming coms verbs q's and flan's

  • I don't mean to be a hater, but with this vdeo you are misinforming people about the use and "sound" of compressors. If you want to do something meaningful, try something else than de default settings! You are not even touching the buttons, how can you pretend "that" is the sound of a particular compressor??

I do appreciate the effort to educate people, but please if you do, do it well!

  • Actually I spent several hours optimizing settings before doing this video... it would be pointless to compare compressors using completely unrelated settings.

  • there has definately been alot of time put into this video!

It would be good if you could use one setting, then show us the difference of that setting between the various compressors. Obv it would have to be done to suit all the plugins (incase some dont have sidechain etc)

Then try another setting and set the various compressors for that setting etc

    A great video, thanks!

  • i like the digirack compressor III actually. nice and fat and the sidechain eq's sweet!

  • thankS!

  • Comment removed

  • what button are you pressing to switch between the plug ins (selecting one while at the same time bypassing the other?)

  • Click to select a plugin, and cntrl+click on PC (or cmmd+click on Mac) to toggle bypass. It looks like one click but it's really several quick clicks.

  • SSL E-Channel FTW!!

  • 1 more for the SSL....

  • Great video! I like SSL. Nice plugins

  • Excellent video

I wish it was in stereo though.

  • Thanks for the kudos! The videos are in CD quality stereo on the HowAudio site
