Seriously, as the story goes, this guy was slated to win the TV Title some time in '91, long after anybody gave a fuck but he got drunk and slipped and broke his ankle missing his big chance.
They should have had a 3-way match, with Nature Boy Buddy Rogers vs Nature Boy Buddy Landell vs Nature Boy Ric Flair. They could have all been in the ring, strutting, wooing, and combing their white hair.
landell was awesome, both he and flair tore it up, just wish he was called something else and yes the drugs and being young with loads of cash ruined his carreer
lol landel was nothing compared to rick. jj dilon looks like he scammed landel out of a bunch of money.with his welding protective glasses he got at homedepot. if he had some real shades he wouldnt be picking up girls who look like the got off the short bus. you can tell jj picked the club cause it looked like it had no cover and was empty
i never knew if Landell and Flair ever wrestled. if they did plzz tell me the date and yr. and if possible post up the video of them in a match. Flair would win any way if the did wrestle.
Fuck that Buddy Landel mother fucker. He has fucked with my life so bad if I ever see that fat mother fucker I will knock his god damn teeth out. Fat ass piece of shit!
Buddy Landel was so good. Could do it all. By the way, for those saying Landel "copied flair" - do you think he'd be that obvious without Flair in on it? Flair gave him the idea. They were friends. I actually thought for pure in-ring amount of moves and speed - Landell was even better than Flair!
I agree 100% on Landel's ability- I remember as late as 1995-96 watching him with the Smoky Mountain title, he still had it then. One thing though, in Flair's book, Flair writes "I didn't see Dusty [the booker at the time] calling anyone else 'The American Dream'." Flair speaks positively of Landel, but it seems he was a little less enthusiastic about another 'Nature Boy' being around.
Flair was interviewed on the Pro Wrestling Weekly radio show in 2001. When asked about what wrestler should have made it big, but didn't, he said Buddy Landel. He also claimed that he was instrumental in bringing Buddy into the Crockett territory.
Buddy also verified this story in an interview a few years back. He had only good things to say about Flair.
Buddy was tremendous, but bad career moves did him no favors.
Oh yeah, Flair definitely expressed respect for Landel's skills--he just wasn't happy about Dusty making him another "Nature Boy". After all, Buddy Rogers was basically retired when Flair took up the name [though he made a few comebacks here and there]. Flair was still in his prime and even though he enjoyed wrestling Landel, he was unhappy as Dusty's creative decision.
"I met Buddy last night at an indy show." Nice. I emailed him totally out of the blue 6 months ago telling him I had been watching WWE on demand showing the old Georgia stuff and how great he was - and I'm sure much more than most people realized (standing dropkicks, 360 airial elbow drops - insane shit for then). Anyway, he replied back that day with the most humble and appreciate "thank you". He really seemed very cool.
Buddy Landell must've really thought his career was going to take off then during this. And how in the world did they get Sade to lend her song to the vignette? Heh.
Landell was shaped like a pear and had a lisp like Buddy Colt. He was a goof and had zero talent in the ring. He was a good interview and a nice man out of the ring. I had the pleasure to see him wrestle several times.
Does anyone recall a vignette with Magnum TA where they played this song- where Magnum is driving around Charlotte.

Landell always reminded me of Andrew Dice Clay, lol. Sade's "Smooth Operator" was used as Rick Rude's entrance theme during his pre-WWF NWA stint.
