The American Queen has begun restorations. It will arrive in Memphis, TN within a few months. The Great American Steamboat Company bought the boat and plans on taking reservations soon. so if you wish to take a ride on this beauty plan on pulling out the check book soon.

The AMERICAN QUEEN no longer operates on the river. Her operator Majestic America LIne folded in November of 2008 and she is in Beaumont TX at a Reserve Fleet awaiting disposition. It has been reported she is available for $15M USD. If you want her, go get her. Yes, this wheel IS steam-powered. However, it could only move the boat in pool water. In a current situation, her Azmuthing Drives ("Z" Drives) are the main propulsion. The engines came from the USCOD Dredge KENNEDY, 1600BHP tandem
I had the honor of taking a 3 day trip on the American Queen. People don't realize that wheel is so huge. The thing is 30 feet tall and a beauty to watch in motion. Thanks for the video. Awesome memories.
I love the sight of that wake being throwen back to the river, I'll bet it takes every bit of 2000 horse power to move that wheel. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@theshipman The engines in American Queen were from a Corps of Engineers dredgeboat.Even so,they weren't strong enough to move the boat,especially on the Lower and had to have jet pumps(like in a PBR) to overcome the current.
