@jamflip I didn't like them. Its like Reeves and Mortimers stuff, you either do or don't. People are like that - so I can hate their stuff. I did like Nathan Barley though, but that was more to do with piss taking the so called trendy 'creative types' in that. Julian Barrat was in it.
It is my understanding that the original soundtrack to this (not the songs featured, but, for example, what is played when tony is flossing his teeth etc in the landrover) is by willie dowling with jeff beck on guitar. i shall send a thousand happy wishes and unlimited respect to anyone who can procure a source of this track
I agree- I think this is a highly underrated series-and Matt Lucas is always funnier with R & M than LB. The fact it was a flop probably points to its quality (Green Green Grass is highly popular)
I'd sooner take one series of this over twenty of Shooting Stars. Best thing since Big Night Out. Good score too, 'That was a perfectly good George Clooney Poster, Chris!'
its a real shame great british comedy like this gets overlooked by the general public, then on the over hand you've got little britain, which i must admit does have a lot of gay and fat jokes (cough cough), which gets far more recognition??
i thoroughly enjoyed this series when it was on. in fact it's the only time i've ever found that prick from little britain funny. whereas V n B can do no wrong as far as i'm concerned. isn't it a fact that all truly great comedy shows barely register with the majority. Spaced, Asylum, The Mighty Boosh. tho thanks to celeb backing there's seems to be a bit of a late serge with TMB . what with the mainstream crowd needing to be told what's okay to like and what isn't. such easily-led tossers.
Totally Agreed, another example is Darkplace, it was an epic comedy that got hardly any recognition, then The IT Crowd comes along which in in my opinion is not greatly funny, yet it seems to be loved...
a good way to think of the 'in' crowd is as being like the Golems from Terry Pratchett's Feet of Clay. They have nothing in their heads until someone writes something on a bit of paper and puts it in and that defines their morals and behaviour until further notice. "Take That good", "Take That bad Robbie Williams good ", "Robbie Williams bad Take That good"... is a good example. their talent, or lack of it, has never altered, just the scrap of paper keeps being rewritten.
I agree that Darkplace is great but i also like the IT Crowd. I think the IT Crowd is advertised a lot better than Darkplace ever was and that is why it is more popular. I would rate Darkplace slightly above the IT Crowd though.
No I do understand your point & I get irrate about the same things - I was just laughing at the irony of getting angry about comedy!!! It reminds me of Geoff Tipps in League Of Gentlemen.
@DreamedOfHugeSpiders The Mighty Boosh is Shit. Spaced was genius and its interesting to see how big name comediennes first starred in it looking at the repeats. V n B were surreal versions of Morecambe & Wise and everything they did was cool. Once something transferred to BBC1 if shown on BBC2 first becomes too mainstream, acceptable and 'oh we must like it now', this is real cult shit, love it.
you can"t beat the british sense of the surreal in comedy. as carly simon sang noboby does it better!!!!!!!!! something to be very proud of, the mad people of the north sea.
I can't believe the BBC aired this on Three, home of utter crap, it's like they wanted to marginalise Vic and Bob. Aren't they trendy enough anymore? Or is it because you need half a brain to appreciate V&B? Does Chris look like Dave Lee Travis or is it me?
Thanks for putting these on! Always meant to watch this.
Is it meant to be catterick, as in catterick garrison/village? Only I just live a mile away and it doesnt look like it was filmed there, but I could be wrong.
i live in york.. and me and my mate drove all the way to catterick village just cos of this......we were soooo disapointed hah!....it must be garrison cos i dont think you can get in there as its an army base!
You are a legend, absolute legend. I've been looking all over for this show, saw it when it was on TV but none of the shops have it-a travesty, considering this is probably their best work yet

Don't get me wrong: I was upset when George Clooney left ER, but what was Chris thinking of by ripping his poster in half?

You can hardly notice Chris's beard now that he's had most of it snipped off.

Chris is somewhere between Peter Sutfcliffe & Dave LeeTravis.
But with a cooler stance, and less hammer-murdering/quack-quack-oops, obviously.
