  • The society would have more respect for political science as a subject matter if these poli sci majors actually study federal, state, and local laws. Unfortunately, these losers study political theories instead. What they study simply can't be applied in the reality. This is PRECISELY the REASON that some people pursue degrees in PUBLIC POLICY instead. It sounds better on resume.

  • @ttiiyy Political theories are descriptions about what is going on in real world. They can (and should) be applied in political discussions. Theories of public policy are more able to be applied desicion making but they are not scientific thories but biased ideology.

Laws are also studied in political science (from the point of view of rhetoric or ideologies, for instance) but why should they focus spesifically on laws? Laws are studied in law schools.

  • Studying political science as major subject is very fun. I recommend it for anyone who has rich parents willing to support him/her for the rest of the life.

  • i saw martin luther king....he changed how people look at black people before... i salute that guy!

  • Man this rockin' music really makes me wanna major in poly sci!

  • Woulf they accept fadhion design, english, economics, or business economics major enroll in law school...

  • @furiousjuffowup yes, you can have any major to go to law school.

  • @furiousjuffowup LSAT and a good undergraduate GPA are what really matter. They are not that particular about the major. Political science is not really the study of laws anyway.

  • I really want to study political science, but everyone tells me that I won't get a job. It will be a waste of degree, time, money. I'm confused. Any advice?

  • @khashya786786 Go to several popular job search engines. They often have some really good tips up there. Ask yourself what jobs you would like to do in the future. And then look at these jobs' descriptions. Look at their requirements. That will give you the answer that you want.

  • This advertiser has a pretty good marketing strategy for political science.

  • Good marketing strategy.

  • wow is this P.S. for dummies or something?

  • I heard it's too general and easy.

  • @GrantMacEwanCollege

or anyone else who knows the answer

What college or institution is he talking about. It sounds like micuen or somethin. And Model UN is awesome. I took part and its soooo much fun.

  • I want to be a political scientist.

  • I have a degree in political science and criminal justice. I guess it's better than having a degree in philosophy.

  • I've wanted to do this but I just don't have the social skills

  • sorry, but I want an acutal paying job with acutal health benefits.

  • The thing about getting a degree in political science is that you have to be able to sell yourself. If you expect to walk into a job after you're done it's not for you! A little bit of elbow grease, networking, and self marketing is the price of doing something you love! One of the best ways beef up your resume is to ensure you are volunteering/interning in political science related positions throughout your degree. Experience definitely will speak volumes to employers!

  • Political Science is what I really want to do. But I'm still in highschool. I'm an a/b student and I'm worried if I get a 4 year degree in this ill come out of collage having no idea what my actual career will be. Can anyone help me out here?

  • @NickSkate7 actually I was in the same boat until my grandfather who just happens to be a political science major informed me about all the Careers in the military's Intelligence branches and Internships you could get with the state department teaching all kinds of jobs available

  • @NickSkate7 I can help, it's spelled; College. Joking aside, it's good that you're thinking about your college degree, but you don't have to make a real decision on it untill your 2nd year of college in most cases. There's no way of saying what your career could, or would be. Just know; among many other things, employers will look for college graduates first to fill ANY position, your degree doesn't particularly have to deal with your work. If you're still worried, major in engineering.

  • I want to major and get B.A. in Political Science and minor in criminology/criminal justice while taking some Spanish and psychology courses at Colorado State University-Fort Collins. I then want to go into the Army doing Military Police and CID Special Agent for 5-8 years. I then want to pursue special agent training with the FBI.

  • I am a graduate of political science. Never had any regrets on this course :p

  • Political Science is the study of power, who has it, and how it's used. If you don't know how to get a satisfying job with this knowledge, you weren't paying attention.

  • @GambitFox79 With a political science major you can easily go to Law school. Which is what I am planning on doing.

  • @GambitFox79 Give me a fucking break. Talking about delusional. Don't expect us taxpayers to bail you losers out forever.

  • Hey, could someone please tell me if a masters in political science degree is for me? My sister suggested it to me. I am in my final year of my bachelors maths degree. I hvae excellent english language skills and I like having debates and hearing people's opinions and discussing them.

    Thanks

  • To all those who graduated in political science, what can I do to be sure to get a job after - grades, be par to of organizations, contacts???

  • Im a a poli.sci student at University of Toronto in third yr, and what I've learn't has totally changed my life goals and philosophy. We're taught raw politics as well as ideologies. And pushed to MAKE UP OUR OWN OPINIONS. I totally love this Uni and subject, I didnt expect to major in politics but now I see how politics is our LIFE, no normal conduction of the things we take for granted can take place without it.

  • I'm a political science graduate (summa cum laude) and have decided to go into nursing since there really aren't any jobs. I'm in an accelerated 2nd degree and master's program for nursing... maybe I'll combine it with law school and chase ambulances...

  • It's very good to study. My focus was International Relations but as again,it's a very interesting topic to study.Without an understanding of Politics you do not have a complete understanding of the human way of life.We revolve around politics, our lives and everything they compose of are dictated and influenced by these events, they even affect Nomadic tribes who stroll the barren dunes of the sahara.

  • I cannot fathom why people keep saying fuck politics! They lack the understanding that everything they do in their lives is probably part politics! Their opinions on religion, prices, etc.... are all part of politics.

  • @NitroEthiopian You are so right! I agree 100%!

  • @NitroEthiopian Exactly, they are usually the lazy,self-centered ones who end up voting for the person(if they live in a democracy) who can convince them with wise charming words rather than whats best for them.

  • I just love politics and history.

  • fuck politics

  • @hbk621 really? because ive known plenty of poly sci majors who had gone on to very prestigious law schools. i didnt know that you knew everything. we should start calling you god.

  • i'm really getting political science, and i won't change my mind anymore. Thanks to this video.

  • @crizzyzzirc I am dead serious. Unless you want to work in bullshit jobs or be unemployed go into something else. Unless you are willing to work EXTREMELY hard to get into law school this program is not for you. I did very well but hated the thought of becoming a lawyer. There are no jobs in the civil service and therefore i am now majoring in accounting. Fuck polisci and fuck university. Doesn't add up to shit!

  • @ITHEREONETHATHASNT i disagree. i majored in poly sci, got a job working on campaigns and eventually as a legislative aide, then research for public service groups, and now working on my phd. i never wanted to be a lawyer either, but my career thus far has been very rewarding. i never worked extreemly hard, but i just was always continued to expand upon my interest in the subject.

  • @jbond5150 Congratulations but how many people were in your classes. How many of them have been as lucky. You probably have great interpersonal skills others lack. I wasted my time in it. I LOVE politics i read newspapers everyday and even watch CSPAN but am not able to get a job in the civil service here in canada. Ottawa gets over two million applications a year for the various ministries. I feel schools are milking money out of kids with to many universities offering this degree.

  • @ITHEREONETHATHASNT being a lawyer is my major plan. Thanks for the advise, anyway.

  • @crizzyzzirc HA reading my comment I was a little mad about something that day. Congratulations on getting in and have high aspirations. The people I know who got into law school did three things. 1) Join the law club and be highly involved 2) Join other groups at school sports, campus voluntary security etc. there are millions of these clubs and they pad your CV 3)GO TO CLASS I cant stress enough how important reference letters are in the application process. Good Luck!

  • I am a double major in psychology b.s. and Political Science b.a. what are prospect available to me when I graduate?

  • m jz wasting my time stdy political sc...it sux n i din get any job related...n im jobless since 07...u sux pol scn!

  • @bwmcmaste id say that Poli science is probably one the most flexible degrees. you should be able to get a job in many different areas. A political science degree would be great preparation for 1. Law school 2. working as a paralegal. 3. Jobs in criminal justice(cop) 4. business/management 5. teaching 6. many government jobs. The list probably goes on and on. So id say other than maybe Engineering a degree in political science would bring you many job prospects.

  • i was thinking about majoring in poli sci but everyday i get more and more depressed with crooked governments, backwards ideologies and the state of society as a whole, who knows what i'll end up doing.

  • @julmart23 id say that Poli science is probably one the most flexible degrees. you should be able to get a job in many different areas. • Waht's the highest this major pays out? I'm a rehabilitation major interested in somthing that doesn't have Grad school sigh.Any suggestions??

  • Wow, the vast number of students graduating with Poli sci degree is amazing.

In 2008, close to 65,000 students graduated with a Poli Sci degree in Canada according to canadian daytime media.

How the hell are all these graduates going to get a job?

  • i am attending a community college and want to attend the university's social work program. what would be a good major beside polisci? social Science? Psychology? I am considering anything that is useful.

  • America needs more political science students! Honestly, our country is afraid of learning anything about anything that exists out of our borders. Let alone the fact that the average American receives his/her information on politics and world affairs from lame low class shows like FOX News.

  • IronJackalTw, if u wish to be that technical in providing a definition then get your facts straight. Science by definition (Latin root: scie/scire) is the state of knowing : knowledge as distinguished from ignorance/ misunderstanding. Hence, categorization of subject matters is simply a narcissistic tendency that people have to distinguish their field from others, to seem better. Science is the systematic knowledge of a subject as it pertains to its law/theories and application.

    Regards,

    plato

  • I just want to point out that Political Science is NOT a SCIENCE!

Niccolo Machiavelli (founder of this dicipline) will teach Political Intrigues and Manipulations at its finest Art (Emotion) Forms! >=P

Anyhow, it is certainly a great stepping stone into LAW SCHOOL! I don't know about JOURNALISM unless it is the PR side of it! =/

SCIENCE will always be Astronomy, Biology (Life Sciences), Chemistry, Earth Sciences, and Physics!

Oh, Computer Science and Math is NOT SCIENCE either!!

  • If I was to major in Political Science and Finance, and then learn either Russian or Farsi (I already know English and Romanian) do you think I could get a government job, such as in intelligence?

  • yes. I think finance would be unnecessary though. You could minor in philosophy as well. Then you would have skills in critical thinking, logical analysis, advanced problem solving, etc.

  • I want to study political science, but the only obstacle that confronts me is the English language.

In my country, we must study the political science in English despite our Native language is Arabic !!

  • Ronald Reagan is the anti-christ.

All Republicans make me sick, so I couldn't handle sitting in a class with potentially a dozen or more of them since I'm in Texas. I'll stick to Biology.

  • I want to major in political science but Im scared at the same time. I cant stand sitting 24/7 constantly studying and researching. I really hate school. but I think a degree in this subject will be good for me. Idk I think I might be confused. I was just always good at Civics/History, Social Studies in school. So thats why I thought it would be a good major

  • The discipline will come later on. when you are force to turn in a paper, you´ll find yourself sitting imfront of your computer until 5:00 in the morning, and then when you are done, and you look at what you have accomplish and you know that you put your effort into it you´ll end up feeling proud of your self. the ideas will come into your mind as you read, and as you get the paper done, you´ll want to put the ideas into context and find out that you are inded smart... second language

  • thats my major

  • wow!political science is interesting!thanks for the video!

  • Hey i have a RANDOM QUESTION! :

Is this a Properly used sentence?--->

"I went threw the liberty of tagging the people that, I thought, would appreciate this picture. : )"

I am not Sure i used the word "Liberty" Right.

  • if you would have said "to the liberty" you would have been right.

  • i'm trying to decide whether or not to major in pol sci and minor in sociology, or visa versa(maj. sociology, minor pol sci) i want to be an attorney, any suggestions?

ps i have to decide my major by december, and love both courses, maybe double major?!?! or is that too hard.

    experienced answers only please

    thanks, mike

  • im having the exact dilemma

  • Poli-sci is good for going into Law School, lots of people use it for that purpose. However, a double major wouldn't hurt either, Political Science and Sociology would be a good combination! If you're sure you want to do Law, and only want to do one major, I'd choose Poli-sci if I were you.

  • i would say philosophy could prepare you just as well if not better.

  • why would it be a good combo? how about an aspiring social worker

  • It's a good combo because the fields overlap a lot. As poli-sci does with many fields. If you did a Poli-sci/Sociology double major you would learn about society and politics at the same time.

For an aspiring social worker, some universities offer a degree in Social Work, so that would obviously be the best program to look for.

  • am attending a community college and they dont have a pre major in social work. all they have is sociology, psychology and polisci as premajors to transfer to a university. my biggest issue is if i dont get accepted into the university social work bsw program then I am stuck pursuing the pre major. (poliSci)

  • Its a best subject of todays world......it show u the way -the methods - how to change your life according to the changing situation....

U know guys Political science is the Mother of all subjects.............from Pol.science other sciences take there way..its best...ITS full of information

  • what can u do with a Poli sci degree?

  • if you watch more than 2 minutes of the video you see that one can work for the government or work in academia among many other fields with a Poli sci degree. You should watch the whole video before you post a negative comment next time.

  • Negative Comment what the hell are you talking about? are you on crack?

  • Run a country into the ground maybe?

    I don't know. Just saying...

  • I don't really know the motivation of those who come here to make discouraging remarks about Poli Sci degrees, but then want to argue up and down with someone who happens to have a decent job with a Political Science degree about the "uselessness" of the degree in obtaining a job. You sound like a miserable bunch.

  • To any Poli Sci BA's out there is it worth getting a BA in poltical science? Are there oppurtunities out there?

  • I knew a girl with a poli sci degree.

She got a job right away after she finished school

    At a grocery store.

  • sounds like a story of your life. right?

  • I know engineering majors working at Walmart. What's your point?

  • My point is that a Poli Sci degree is like graduating in English, History, or Philosophy. It's a stamp saying "I finished college" and not much else.

  • Isn't that what any degree is about.... "I finished college. I managed to go through the motions for four or five years."

  • No. Ask anyone who's more likely to get the better-paying job: Someone who graduated in Ancient History with a minor in Women's Studies, or someone with a degree in accounting.

  • Not necessarily. I know someone who graduated with a degree in African American Studies who got a good paying job right out of college (networking), and I know a guy with a Masters in Accounting (Summa Cum Laude) who delivers pizzas just to pay his student loans. Various factors play into whether someone gets a good paying job. Having a marketable degree just isn't enough. That being said, my Political Science degree has given me many opportunities, so I say my degree is pretty marketable.

  • @LibertarianGal2009 I wholeheartedly agree with your statement. It's all about networking.

  • i have the same ? if you get any insight please tell me

  • I don't understand how people are not finding jobs with a BA in Political Science. I got all sorts of job offers and I was just an average student. I don't have connections or anything. I got offers from C-Span, local law firms, local newspapers (Political reporter), community organizer, research assistant at a Think Tank in DC. You guys need to sell yourself and your degree better.

  • good to hear.

  • If there are people out there flipping burgers or unemployed with a degree in Political Science, that's their problem. Just because you graduate with honors, doesn't mean the world is going to be handed to you. You have to create your own opportunities and learn how to relate the skills you learn in Political Science to the positions that you are applying for. You need to gain experience and actually do something with your four or five years of college. Don't wait until after graduation.

  • not what I wanted to hear, but i guess thats reality. Im definatley not putting in the effort to make oppurtunities for myself.

  • wait dosn't this contradict what you said below?

  • In what way?

  • @LibertarianGal2009 As a seventeen year old considering the degree, I would like to thank you.

I have been very actively involved in the community and have gotten numerous job offers/opportunities already. I am sure that a poli sci degree no matter how "useful" some people say it is, will be even more helpful in obtaining a good job in the future. As long as I market myself =)

  • @LibertarianGal2009 I'm a MA in political science, and right now I am finding so many job oppurtunities to embark on. For example, I can easily find jobs in home appliance marketing or food and hospitality businness. Well, its not like other people can do this as well, but we as Political Science majors have an advantage over the all the other pizza boys, i mean food logistics managers. For example, when my boss tells me to not take Baytor Rd, during my delivery run....

  • @LibertarianGal2009 I am the only person who is able to an in depth social-political analysis on the historical and political importance of Baytor Rd in our city. My boss has threatned to fire me if I give another opened my mouth again, but I think were making progress.

  • Its not about whether or not you will be able to find a job upon graduation, its about whether or not you wasted 4 years of your life learning something easy, and anyone could probably understand. Since I have subscribed to Time magazine for more than 8 years, I consider myself a holder of a Masters in Political Science!

  • @24NerF

You're right, your single-source, eight year magazine subscription definitely makes a statement about your education.

  • @GambitFox79 I'd say that a 8 year subscription to time magazine qualifies me as a 'political scientists'. Got anything to say now that you realized you've thrown 30 grand out the window, for a degree that could have been earned without paying a cent?

  • @24NerF its not about the education , its about the piece of paper you get when your done. Can you get a job with the federal government with your magazine subscription?

  • @GambitFox79 One more thing, to the 99% of poli sci majors who didnt get into law school... haha!

  • this made me want to explore the political science major. Thanks!

  • I LOVE POLITICS SO MUCH!!!!!!!

  • I love politics. I'm 16 and am hoping to major in it.

  • Good luck. But I am serious I just graduated from Political science with Honors. I cannot get a job. You need a graduate degree to get work. I am now going into accounting and it will be years before I am employable. Seriousy consider business it has so many more employment options. Unless you want to be a lawyer. In which case you will need grades in the high eighties and lots of extra curricular activities.

  • I love Political Science, I got my BA in it last year. I love Politics and studying Power!

  • but did u get a job?

  • Yep. $60,000 a year as a Paralegal. Going back sometime next year to get a Master's in Real Estate Development.

  • You don't need a degree to be a paralegal... Just a H.S. dip.

  • H.S?

  • Highschool diploma, paralegal is on the job training mostly. For a paralegal, a B.A. is overkill

  • Try applying for a Paralegal position without a BA in my town, and see how far that gets you. Lawyers are not even looking at people with Associate degrees anymore here. This may be different somewhere else.

  • Having a high school diploma in canada is more than enough for a paralegal job.

  • Very true. These days they only accept women as paralegals because its an easy job with no hardwork.

  • LOL, hilarious! If anything paralegals perform most of the legal work and get paid $11-20 an hour, while the attorney get to take the credit and bill clients $200 an hour for it. I don't plan to be a paralegal forever, but for right now, its paying the bills.

  • so what kinds of jobs can you get with a politcal science degree? and how difficult are those jobs to land? thanks!!

  • It is a good stepping stone ito Law school

  • Government jobs mainly, not just law...

  • Just need to get my Major degree in Political Science, and my ticket to a job in the CIA is complete. God I love Politics.

  • Don't lose your soul!

  • you need more then that, sorry kid.

  • what can you with a political science degree? do you need to be good at math?

  • There is some math involved in the form of statistics, but very little.

  • not at all. unless you're doing statistical research.

  • I love politics and i'm only 15! I have really been very interested into going into studying political science. I don't want to run for for President or anything but I would love to work on one of the US branches or somewhere in Washington D.C. I didn't know that I would get to travel if I went into that. I love to travel.

  • i like politics even though the majority of americans find it boring...

  • @chutubeme you and me bothman

  • @chutubeme you and me both man

  • @chutubeme you ,me, and the other small percentage
