Great video. Not having a car isn't a big deal whatsoever and I'm seriously considering getting rid of mine. I've had a car and I haven't had a car, and overall I was a lot happier when I didn't. I could choose jobs based on what I actually wanted to do, not based on a car payment, insurance, gas, etc. I rode my bike to work and I was 24 lbs lighter back then and that was only 2 years ago. It gets to a point when quality of life is more important than material possesions. We're not our stuff.
First of all, some people need cars to get to a job. But here's the funny thing. I've heard some people who live steps away from a subway and work steps away from a subway but still buy a car so they can get to work. Does that make sense?
I have now lived without a car for a total of 4 years in the states, it is tough but I am doing it now, and I hope to continue. Been car free in South Carolina for 2 years, people think I am nuts, but I love it for the most part.
It is actually much easier to live without a car in other countries I have found, so I may go back to my travelling ways!
I have never had a car. I have biked to six counties. I have biked to Oakland, Sausalito, Santa Cruz, Gilroy, Half Moon Bay, San Francisco, Woodside, Portola Valley, Fremont, and Pacifica. I have walked to San Jose, Saratoga, Redwood City, almost made it to Campbell, and Palo Alto.
@BayAreaBiker2001 Hi from Santa Cruz, although I'm a French native. I have never owned a car and have always been a pedestrian and recenlty (2 years ago going strong) became a cyclist!! I LOVE it!
I would have imagined that a city the size of Los Angeles would have had a far better public rail network. The underground system could serve the city so much better if it was expanded.
Look at the bus it has a bike rack for about two bikes. What happens when 7 bikes need ride guess you're SOL and will be pedaling that day. In California you can use an electric car duty free if it meets certain requirements bet the same applies to the electric bike. I have an electric bike that has a trailer all bought at wal mart I have taken trips 12 miles one way and I am out of shape over 300 lbs. 16 mph average speed. The bike needed a charge after 12 miles. So I charged it while at work
very interesting.. im likeing what im seeing here. its def possible in warm climates to do this all year. even in ottawa where its freezing for about 5 months most of my friends with bikes ride for almost 11 out of 12 months (troopers i say) but still possible! GOOO PLANET!
