  • my grandpa drew this cartoon. his name was eli bauer.

  • I like the version on Sprout better.

  • I seem to remember an "Old MacDonald" clip on Sesame Street where a bunch of people are out in the country singing the song in a field. Anyone remember that one?

  • @ulij20

This clip, with a rerecorded soundtrack, turned up on episode 3792, where Old MacDonald's duck sounds like a cow instead.

  • Sometime during the '90s, they remade the audio, but kept the video (which I recently saw on Sprout).

  • Hi Hondo,

No, not so. The audio is exactly as it was when Mark Ross and I did it some 25 years ago. Not sure where you heard that...What is sprout? I did about 20 of those animations with Sesame St. and Children't TV. Workshop and they are also supposed to appear on youtube I'm told...Fun times...Jack Baker NYC

  • oops! I meant Children's Television Workshop. I played banjo and sang and Mark Ross did the guitar backup and vocal also...Jack Baker NYC

  • This clip is SO COOL! I always liked this when it came up on the show, and I still find it fascinating now. I always thought the cab horn was cool. It's such a wonderful play on the old nursery rhyme. Just out of curiosity, who is "Young MacDonald" as opposed to "Old MacDonald?"

  • Long time since I saw this! Was singing along!! Thanks jonnytbirdzback!!! :-) You brought back nice memories!

  • biri sözlerini yazsın şurayaaa

  • This finally answers the question as to why Benny the Cab from "Roger Rabbit" always seemed vaguely familiar...

  • With that hair the boy looks like the Marc's Big Boy restaurant kid holding the hamburger.

  • Thank you! I've been looking for this one for quite some time!

"...and coming home he fell asleep!"

  • Yes, yes, yes! I knew that there was a Sesame Street clip from the 1970's that ended up with that line, and this is it! However, it's hard for me to fall asleep when I'm watching great memories on YouTube!

  • @d72jjpilc

    I have the same problem!

  • oh johnny thank you! This is my ultimate favorite and I haven't seen it in years! *muah*

  • Another clip I haven't seen since it was on PBS years ago. thanks for adding it!

  • I've been looking and looking for this!! I can't believe I finally found it. VVhere do you get these clips? :)

  • Glad this is the jaunty original!

  • Did Robert Crumb do the animation for this? It certainly bears the mark of his style.

  • It's the old 1930s style of drawing, but it wasn't by Crumb.

There were some animators at the National Film Board of Canada who were working in this style in the 1970s & 80s. I don't know if any of them worked on this segment, but I do know that NFB animators did quite a few segments for the show.

Check out "The Family That Dwelt Apart" (1973) and "Get a Job" (1985), which are done in that old 1930s animation style.

  • I was wondering if this was ever going to be added
