I don't think they are there "for oil" specifically. America gets all its oil from Canada. Europe however does get it from there. I think its more for the stability of oil output nations in their supply. If American relied on that oil, they would have gone in fully gun ho themselves. The armed conflict will be very limited because L'Otan (NATO) has taken care to destroy the arms dumps. Libya has no fuel, medical supplies or food, which will drastically curtail the actions of the Islamists, as it will in Egypt, in the next couple of months. Also, Europe and the US will not be accepting any more refugees/migrants, which will keep all the actors in the crucible, so as to accelerate the outbreak of democracy, as the alternative to an outbreak of internecine conflict.
