u must read this. once u have started there is no turning back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murderded in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 vidoes in 30 minutes the dead girl will apear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. well you better start to copy and paste to be saved
No, uncle remus was not a slave! I agree! Joel Chandler harris was not a slave. Joel is the one that wrote the stories. He wrote them from stories told to him when he was young!
I have wonderful dvd conversions of this movie that are in pristine condition. If you are interested in something like this feel free to drop me a line on here and i can give you all the info.
I've never seen the whole movie, but I am familiar with the Uncle Remus cycle of folklore and what animation clips I have seen appear to be quite an accomplished adaptation.
The reason it was banned is because of it's highly 'racialized' characters. All the characters have deep southern black accents, and Uncle Remus is a portrayal of a 'happy slave' for Americans to feel less regret about that horrible history. The characters have all the black stereotypes and really the whole thing is for people to watch and think how cute and funny blackness is.
Uncle Remus, as a black person I have no problem with but, as part of black folklore the oversize animals are representive of White Southern males this has always been the secret of the story. That even Walt did not understand these stories helped get us throught those days.
I did a report on this movie, and as I looked into it I found that the reason it wont come out in the United States. The reason is because of the 'tar baby'. That was taken the wrong way by many people for obvious reasons, but Disney did not mean it to be that way. It may be on the internet, but I dont know how to do that. If you have any questions ask me.
Yeah didn't the tar baby represent like a sticky situatio or whatever. Like the more you fight a sticky situation the stickier it will get or wahtever? until your trapped? I don't understand how ANY one could think that the tar baby was a racial slur for black people, besides the fact that it is black!
Yep. Its like this, Br'er Rabbit had no reason to get in the tar babys buisness as to why it wasn't talking, But Br'er Rabbit just butted in, and he got in a situation he couldn't get out of. (at the moment)
I adore this movie xD It's so sad, being 17 and I don't know any other kid my age that has seen this movie. Adoralble song, and I love the animation sequences.
Most people here in the Netherlands don't know the movie (although it was available on VHS in the 90s), but EVERYONE knows Brer Rabbit from the comics! He's one of the major Disney characters in the Netherlands.
this is quite possibly the weirdest AMV-type thing I have ever seen... yet so catchy. Clearly you have Song of the South clips around somewhere to make this; any chance of sharing them in their original form?
is there any other way you could send song of the south?? email?? aim??? splash mountain is my favorite disney ride but i've never really understood what was goin on and have wanted to see this movie XD;

Joel Chandler Harris was a white man. He told the uncle remus stories the way an old black slave had told them to him!
ICame2PlayWithU 3 years ago
I Came, actually what I should have said, is, Harris based his stories,on old black folk tales, he had gathered. That's correct.
