I visited someone there and walked around the grounds in 1998. Much of it was empty. The Occupational therapy building was closed, but still full of the artwork of patients. There are three chapels. However, the second chapel built (a rather large church built in 1889, I think) had a feeling unlike any other building in Warley Hospital. I could only look through the front door. It's high windows and dark gothic arches were more unwelcoming than beautiful. I will never forget it.
a few years back my husband, a friend, and i asked the caretaker of this cool old powder factory if we could go in and take pictures for a class we had. he let us in and just told us to watch out for the holes in the floor and his dog. that place was amazing. there was one room with a tree growing in the middle of it. the walls were all windows and pigeons were flying everywhere. the machinery rooms were cool, too.
I've looked up the asylum that it was filmed in and read the history of it. Very eerie. Apparently you can get a tour of the grounds, but they won't let you go inside for safety reasons. I wonder how they got permission to do the filming in there.
i'd love to go take a tour. they probably just gave them special permission because they were making a movie and paid them to use the grounds. and i'd bet they had to sign some sort of contract stating that any injuries were their own responsibility.
Hey there.. Yeah, we had to pay fairly large amounts of money and have some fairly huge insurance in place before shooting in Warley. I'm not sure if the parts we shot in are still standing; more of the building is getting knocked down all the time. Amazing place to shoot, but creepy as hell.
I am gong to have to rewatch 'Session Nine' to see if you can see them in that movie too! I think it was filmed in another asylum, but similar things were reported during the filming. I haven't seen this movie yet.
I looked up that asylum, and you can actually tour the grounds, but they won't let you in for safety reasons. I wonder how they got permission to film there.

Probably...I have the VHS version, so I don't have the special features for that movie. I should look it up again...

i'd like to see that film again and watch for odd things. i love the asylum in it because it's shaped like a bat.
