I figured Jimi used a silicon Fuzzface @ Woodstock, but I'm just not sure. I have an Analog Man Sunface (with NOS '60's British New Market NKT275 germanium trannies), and it's as good as it gets for the germanium Arbiter FF sound, so if Jimi used one of the earlier, germanium Arbiter FF's (rather than the later, silicon Dallas-Arbiter ones), it would be a relief to have that Woodstock univibe sound covered. For a silicon fuzz tone, I actually like my Throbak Overdrive Boost. Love that thing.

Jimi's tone is there, especially in the intro. But your timing/feel isn't quite right on subsequent sections, so work on your syncopation and practice bending to pitch more accurately. As for me, I'll stick with my own tone.

There are 2 versions of the Voodoo Vibe. The $500 one and the other version with less knobs that still nails the sound - just not quite as flexible (Still does everything the old univibes did). I want to get a KR Megavibe. Best I've heard for the Woodstock/Band Of Gypsys univibe sound. Right now I'm using a Voodoo Lab Microvibe. Nails the sound with a clean amp or w/ lower-gain overdrives, but it tends to load up/sound clipped with fuzzes. I love my Proctavia though.

Hi sunshipwreck, I have not used the the Roger Mayer Stone fuzz but the Roger Mayer 'Axis' fuzz is cool (check my little wing video) . I like the axis fuzz because like the dunlop jh fuzz its cleans up when you roll the volume on the guitar back without losing too much top. I have gigged with the dunlop JH fuzz and its fine... can pick up short wave radio though when using the old curly leads which can be annoying.
