  • @Strangewind017 Correct the error of thumbing with your non-shooting thumb causing sidespin by squeezing the thumb next to the index finger. If you are right handed your shots will tend to miss to the left due to not getting help from your weak hand. Correct this by using the trigger word "Straight" to follow through straight toward the target.

  • i love this dude i wish he could be my coach

  • What do they mean with the phrase: "Legs, Straight, Point"?

  • @JustFlew Words that you associate with the correct mechanics of your shot are called trigger words. The word "Legs" triggers the down and up action of your legs which provides rhythm and range. The word "Straight" triggers your shooting hand starting straight and finishing straigh at your target. The word "Point" triggers the correct release of the ball off the pads of your index finger. Say the words with confidence and rhythm from the start of your shot to release of the ball.

  • My problem is that when I shoot, I keep my guiding hand on top of the ball instead of the side. My coach noticed this and I'm trying to improve it. Would I greatly benefit from changing this? I also would like to ask if you have to be strong to shoot a three pointer, or does it have to do with your shooting mechanics. I'm not the strongest guy out there.

  • @thenomeer Hand position is the most misunderstood part of shooting. Start with you shooting hand set high facing the target with your index finger at the ball's midpoint. Your non-shooting (balance) hand should balance the ball with at least the ring and the little finger under the ball. This leaves your shooting hand free to shoot the ball, rather than having to balance and shoot the ball. Rhythm gives you three point range. Rhythm comes from the down-and-up motion of your legs.

  • @ShootBetter Thanks so much!

  • this guy's awesome shooting coach

  • There's a little problem. My set shots are quite accurate....when I'm not jumping.

To make up for lack of strength, I usually "rest" the ball on my finger pads by lifting the ball just over my head.......then I "fling" it like a catapult......It's really accurate for me I have to say. But for jump shots I just cannot do it when I jump I mess things up--- I either shoot with my ring finger accidentally or my left hand gets in the way.

  • @AceofDlamonds Start with you shooting hand set high between your ear and shoulder facing the rim. Use the trigger word "Point" to release the ball off the pads of your index finger. Your non-shooting hand should balance the ball with at least the ring and the little finger under the ball with the non-shooting elbow out and the non-shooting thumb facing the rim. Correct the error of your non-shooting thumb causing sidespin by squeezing the thumb next to the index finger.

  • thank you! ive been getting backspin that is also side spinning a little and moving my thumb in on my guide hand has helped me just get back spin!

  • I have gone through a bit of a shooting slump. My shot feels weak and the ball feels almost unstable in my hand at release. Ive never encountered this problem before and am having trouble shaking it. Is there an adjustment I can make to amend the problem?

  • @boatshoez It is difficult to give you advice without seeing you shoot. It may be thatyou are trying to balance and shoot the ball with your shooting hand. Your non-shooting (balance) hand should balance the ball with at least the ring and the little finger under the ball. This leaves your shooting hand free to shoot the ball, rather than having to balance and shoot the ball.

  • Love you, Dad! You're awesome! It is so great that you take the time to help all of these players with their basketball shooting! My Dad is the best! :) <3

  • Why is my three point shot better than my mid-range shot, when i shoot from mid-range the ball always hits the back of the rim or i just air ball it what do u think i should work on?

  • @xTRiCERAT0PS Shots that are long are due to not enough arc on your shot or leaning your shoulders back which leads to a flat shot. Short shots are due to incomplete follow through, not using legs or slow rhythm. View Correcting Basketball Shooting Errors at our BasketballWorld website. • Fantastic video, I've noticed a great improvement in my shooting.

  • Fantastic advice! By doing what these students are doing I've had an immediate improvement

  • Youre the greatest, i learnt so much from this. The teachers at my school are always asking me " do you play in a league?" and i dont. It just feels great to be a good player and can help my school team win

  • Coach i always have had a problem with my shooting. I seem to always tip over or lean forward when i shoot. What could my problem be? Also does it matter if your shooting elbow is in or out?

  • @shafig95691 To improve balance position your head over your waist to keep your center of gravity over your base. Spread your feet comfortably to shoulder width with your toes straight and knees slightly flexed. Keeping your shooting elbow in aligns the ball with the basket. Some players do not have the flexibility to place the shooting hand facing the basket with the elbow in. First set the shooting hand facing the basket, then move the elbow in as far as your flexibility allows.

  • Coach. I have a pretty decent release and rhythm from the legs. I play basketball everyday. what is the best method of drills to do to increase your shooting and accuracy. thanks coach

  • hey, thanks for this video. i've been working on my free throw consistency. there's no better waste of time than going through a shooting rut, but not thinking about why it missed and what you need to correct. thanks coach!

  • What do you prefer with your thumb on the ball? I was told to have it as an L with the index finger and others tell me to make a U with my thumb and index? Any suggestions?

  • @Mrphe3000 Place your nonshooting (balance) hand slightly under the ball. The weight of the ball balances on at least two fingers: the ring finger and the little finger. The arm of your non-shooting hand should be in a comfortable position, with the elbow pointing slightly back and to the side. The thumb of your nonshooting hand should form an L with your index finger and point to the target.

  • From Mid-range i have a nice form but when i get to the 3 point line it changes is it because of strength?

  • @DaGooniezOfficial Range comes from rhythm rather than strength. Rhythm gives you range. Rhythm comes from the down-and-up action of your legs. Start with your knees slightly flexed and then use the down-and up action of your legs. As your legs go up your shooting arm goes up. They work together. Three point shots require the down-and-up motion of your legs with more force from your legs, back, and shoulders, and a complete follow-through.

  • This is probably the best instructional video on shooting that I've ever seen. Keeping things simple (e.g. one key word to keep in mind) makes it so much easier for the shooter.

  • Thank YOU so MUCH !

  • I play basketball and well every time, at least most of the time, when taking jump shots, I always seem to end up facing a little bit sideways, even though I always make the shot. My rec league coach used to keep me after practice to work on it, it got better but once the season was over I'd go in my back yard and shoot but it never got better. I'm trying out for the middle school team and Im scared the coach wont like my movements..Advice? thanks

  • Thanks

  • not complaining about my missed shot meant the most to my shot...no i just need to be consistent

  • is it bad to be lefty , but shoot with right ?

  • nice training and cool smart coach

  • you guys ever thinking of bringing it to malaysia? kids here love basketball and don't have camps, and our country team isn't even up to standards to play internationally. I really want to join a basketball camp since forever...

  • I am very good shooter when I'm fresh. I shoot 7/10(sometimes 9/10). but... when I'm getting tired I can't shoot at least 3/10. I am trying to correct, to change arc, but nothing helps. Can you help me?

PS. sorry if my English is not perfect :)

  • Man ur just great I hope you are doing well because you were a big help

  • this guy seems like an the kind of coach i'd wanna play for

  • I am a pretty good shooter... actually that is the only thing I'm good at... lol... But I don't have extended range... I'm more adept on long 2s... I can still hit 3s but that is actually not my range... help?

  • My shots are really inconsistent and i tend to shot better from pull ups or fade away jumpers rather then spot ups i do not know why this happens. I think that my rhythm is fine and my footwork is always the same. This video helped me but still I can use some help.

  • When you hold a ball does the ball touch the palm of your shooting hand?

  • love this guy. i am now the best 3 point shooter on my team :D

  • man i cant thank you enough for this video it really helped alot htnx and keep it up

  • So all I need to do is say Straight!!!!! niceeeeeeeee

  • i KINDA LIKE THAT, HE'S TEACHING THEM TO SHOOT NOT ONLY PHYSICALLY, BUT MENTALLY, HAVE THEM MENTALLY THINK THAT THE BALL WENT IN EVEN THOUGH IT DIDN'T WILL GIVE THEM MORE CONFEDENCE IN THEIR SHOT AND WILL HELP PHYSICALLY FOR BETTER PRECISION IN THEIR SHOOTING FORM AT THE SAME TIME :)

  • How do u shoot a jump shot wiff accuracy when comin off a screen

  • this is really good

  • I freaking want him as coach, he is very good to teach, and he learn every detail to u

  • I play PF in my team but my midrange shots are horrible, my main problem is my assist hand keeps changing the direction of my ball, I can shoot pretty well with one hand while practicing but i don't know where to put my assist hand. I think this is also due to the fact that when i caught the ball and change into my shooting position my assist hand tends to be in front of the ball not on the side. PLEASE HELP thanks.

  • shooting a jumper should come from the legs up the the hand. I was shooting the ball with my arms only then i tried shooting from the ground up, shooting accuracy went from 4/10, to 10/10 free throws

  • adore this clip!!!

i changed my shooting form after watching this clip...

Thanks for sharing the clip and helping us!!

  • which finger you use to eject the ball?

    index finger?

  • Lol this guy is the best coach ever

  • Thanks for posting these videos. Great learning/teaching tools.

  • thanks for video :D

  • I'm a good shooter, but I'm bugged by my shot because I take my guide hand off the ball early and end up shooting with one hand, similar to Oscar Robertson's shooting form(of course not as good). I know it's not really a bad thing, but I'd prefer if I could keep the guide hand on the ball up until the release. I've tried practicing keeping my guide hand on longer, but it feels really weird and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. Have any advice?

  • Im having trouble puting backward rotation on the ball. When I release the ball it has little to no rotation. My coach says its because of my guide hand and his son also says im not flicking my wrist to get the rotation. Could this be true?

  • im a good spot up shooter, but i want to work on shooting off the dribble. any suggestions?

  • @shootbetter coach, I'm an inexperienced 12 year old but really athletic on average scale, my shot is too weak to make the basket on long-ranged to mid-ranged shots when I shoot with a hand directly behind the ball because my shot is different, please help me with this problem

  • i shoot with right but when i shoot it my left hand always ruins the shot, how do i correct this?

  • thanks sir!

  • this is an amazing video

  • great video

  • wow. this vid is pretty useful. thanks :)

  • that's a good coach

  • my problem is that my shot doesn´t have a propper backspin and now matter how hard or explosiv i flick my wrist it still doesn´t spin very fast

  • @ShrillaKilla42 It is difficult to help you without seeing you shoot. Not getting backspin may be to due to having the ball on your palm. Lift the ball off your palm and release the ball off the pads of your index finger. View Correcting Basketball Shooting Errors at our BasketballWorld website. Also view video clips and articles at our CoachWissel website. Sign up for our FREE newsletter at our BasketballWorld website. Try to attend one of our SHOOT IT BETTER Mini Camps.

  • My problem is that I bend my back 'back', I lose alot of strength in the shot by that.

I've hade some problems with my knees, so I have not taken many "real" jumpshots and started to use my back for some reason.

What should I do to learn to bend my knees properly and stop using my back?

  • @D15N Start with your knees slightly flexed: Bend your knees and then fully extend them in a down-and-up motion. Saying the key words "Down and up!" from the start of your shot until release of the ball will trigger the down and up action that provides rhythm and range for your shot. As your knees go up your arm goes up. Keeping the ball high rather than lowering the ball fosters a quick release and also provides less chance for error.

  • hey i have gotten into a bad shooting habbit and im 13. Ive watched videos and treid teaching myself. i can definetly tell i am spinning the ball way to much. I am always getting too short on my freethrows, jump shots, and 3s. People told me im making my arm flick the ball too much or making my hand end up more straight rather than my shooting hand that is like a 45 degree angle. Could you please tell me maybe why this is the reason and some tips on not making it spin so much on all my shots

  • @monkeysmeller110 Regarding spinning the ball too much, do not force the spin. Release the ball off the pads of your index finger which will naturally lead to back spin and a soft touch. Shots that miss short are mostly due to not using your legs in a down and up rhythm, a slow or inconsistent rhythm or not holding your follow-through up until the ball reaches the net. Review Shot is Short on my new Correcting Shooting Errors video clip on our Basketball World website.

  • thanks for posting, as sappy as it may sound, I found that if I visualize a good shot Ive made and mentally picture the ball going in, my shooting picks up, even if I've missed every shot untill then.

  • with which finger do you guide the ball, what finer is the last one on the ball while shooting? some say index, some say the middle finger.

  • coach i would welcome u comments how i could improve as a better coach i am a certified basketball coach level II in Canada

  • great video

  • IM SO GLAD I FOUND THIS VIDEO

  • great video, I would love to have a coach like this one!

I´ll keep following your vids from Spain.

  • my i shoot 60% midrange but i have no backspin when i release my shot

no matter how hard i try

  • @shawnpea25 Set the ball high between your ear and shoulder with your shooting hand facing the front of the rim. Use a relaxed hand position (like a handshake) to form a natural cup, enabling the ball to be released off the pads of your index finger and not your palm. This leads to a soft touch and and backspin. Followthrough with your shooting hand going straight toward the target.

  • I have the same problem with my shot, giving it an extra push with my left hand's thumb.. ThankYou :)

  • @radiobox32 Correct the error of thumbing with your non-shooting thumb causing sidespin by squeezing the thumb next to the index finger. If you are right handed your shots will tend to miss to the left due to not getting help from your weak hand. Correct this by using the trigger word "Straight" to follow through straight toward the target.

  • Hmm, never thought about the mentality before and I never polished my shot because I never took rhythm into consideration when my shots were shot. Good video!

  • thanks a lot coach this really helped

  • Thanks a lot for posting this, it helped me a lot.

  • I'm a pretty good shooter from close range to mid range but I often force my shot when I shoot 3 pointer. How can I improve my 3 point shooting?

  • @basketballman307 Rhythm and 3 point range come from the down-and-up motion of your legs. As your legs go up, your arm goes up. As your legs reach full extension, your back, shoulders, and shooting arm extend in a smooth, continuous upward direction. Use the down-and-up motion of your legs rather than lowering the ball for rhythm. Start your shot high for a quick release and less chance for error. A complete follow-through will also improve 3-point shooting.

  • When I shoot I am never consistent with my shots. For example, if I was to play a basketball game, I would shoot well over 75% of my shots but after 30 mintues my shot would be inconsistent. Any tips?

  • @krusta97 It may be that you are not in physical condition. As fatique sets in skils diminish.

  • I am a pretty good shooter and can shoot anywhere except 3 pointers. I always end up shooting it a different way. How can I shoot 3's better with my regular shot?

  • @localnugget Rhythm and 3 point range come from the down-and-up motion of your legs.

  • im a good all around player but i want to improve my outside shooting any tips?

  • I would like to get better at shooting, everyone tells me my accuracy is their, but how far the ball travels isn't. I can't seem to correct this, is it my follow through, my guiding hand, what do you think is keeping me from shooting well.

  • @301Trees Rhythm and 3 point range come from the down-and-up motion of your legs. Hold follow-through until the ball reaches the net. Also, incorrect mechanics will limit range.

  • my shot sometimes goes a bit left or a bit right i think its cause my feet arent always square is there any other way to fix this problem

  • @shane19961028 Your toes should be straight and knees slightly flexed. Start with you shooting hand set high (between your ear and shoulder) and facing the front of the basket. Direct your arm, wrist, and fingers straight toward the basket at a 45- to 60-degree angle. Keep your ollow-through straight up until the ball reaches the net. Keeping your follow-through up is not only good mechanics, but also makes you look and act like a shooter and increases confidence.

  • i found it's difficult for me to make a jump shot

i always make it a air ball

is it only the problem of my arms strength?

or are there some special tactic to perform a jump shot?

  • @plaay90826. Shooting a jump shot involves confidence, rhythm and correct mechanics. It is difficult to answer your question without seeing you shoot. Rhythm from the down and up action of your knees is more important than arm strength. Review the videos on YouTube and on the CoachWissel website.

  • @ShootBetter I suffer from that when i do 3's.. but if i step in 1 after the 3 line i can make it :S

  • @ShootBetter everyone shoots different though Ray allen is very fundamental while reggie millers shot was very very unorthodox is it safe to say if it works and it is comfortable it doesnt need to be fixed.

  • @plaay90826 your arm strenght plays verrrrry little part in the range of your shot, its all about the legs when it comes to range, in the case of a closer jumoshot but you're producing airballs then make sure your follow through is good and really snap your wrist on the release of the ball, don't feel like its gonna be short or long, just make sure the shot is smooth and it should be good.

  • I am a good shooter and I have ok range. Can you tell me how to extend my range.

  • @mominjb22 Rhythm gives you range. Starting with your knees slightly flexed use a quick down and up motion of your knees. As your legs go up your shooting arm goes up. They work together. Say the trigger words "Down and up!" from the start of your shot to release of the ball. Emphasize the last word "Up!" This will give you the force needed for three pointers. The word "up!" also triggers keeping your follow-through up until the ball reaches the net. More videos at the CoachWissel website.

  • buddys elbow is out no wonder he keeps getting side spin learn to coach

  • @MATRIXandKAOScod The player did not have the flexibility to place the shooting hand facing the basket while keeping the elbow in. The shooting hand facing front takes preference over elbow in. The player was getting sidespin due to thumbing the ball and not due to the elbow being out. He corrected this by practicing with the left thumb squeezed next to the left index finger to eliminate thumbing, and releasing tthe ball off the right index finger and saying the key word "Point!"

  • @MATRIXandKAOScod some people find it hard to shoot with ur elbow in like i do..someties its more comforatble if ur elbow is where u want it to be,not all the way out tho

  • @jdm305em1 Keeping your shooting elbow in, aligns the ball with the basket. Some players do not have the flexibility to place the shooting hand facing the basket while keeping the elbow in. In this case, the shooting hand facing front takes preference over the elbow in. First place the shooting hand facing the basket, then move the elbow in as far as your flexibility allows.

  • awesome

  • Lucky iam the best shooter on my team which at the moment is one the the best basketball teams in england, but i also have some faults with my shot. It always seems that I release the ball with my thum at times which send the ball of course. How could i correct this.

  • @MasterLeeBrick Watch the section of the video that covers correcting sidespin due to thumbing the ball. Practice shooting with your left thumb squeezed next to your left index finger to eliminate thumbing. Your first few shots will tend to miss to the left, because you are used to getting some force from your left thumb. Emphasize the key word "Straight!" on your release and the ball will start to go straight with backspin. Also view the Strong Hand Shooting Drill on Coach Wissel website.

  • what are all the correction words and what they help you correct?

  • @toastymuffin379 Words that key the correct mechanics of your shot are called trigger words. Examples include "High!" - Start shot high. "Straight!" - Shooting hand goes straight. "Front!" - Shooting hand faces rim. "Legs!" - Use legs. "Point!"- Release ball off pads of index finger. "Up!" - High arch. "Through!" - Follow-through. "Down and up!" - Down and up action of legs for rhythm and range. "Head-in!" Stop leaning or stepping back. For other examples view articles on CoachWissel website.

  • I have a question...

my shooting is the worst out of my whole team, but they all jump when they shoot while I just need to do a smaller jump then the rest of them.. My shot always goes to the right because I'm left handed and sometimes I just hit the backboard but doesn't touch the rim at all.. how can I correct this?

  • @189x With out seeing you shoot, it is difficult to say for sure. However, I would make an educated guess that you are not using the down and up action of your legs for rhythm and range. The reason your shot misses to the right is that you are probably shoving the ball from left to right. Use the down and up action of your legs for power. The ball will go where your finger points. Use the key words "Down and point!" to trigger rhythm and pointing your index finger over the front of the rim.

  • good coach

  • this guy is the cus d'amato of basketball. seriously legit, thanks for the upload.

  • @bulletfmv25 The video clip "Correcting Basketball Shooting Errors" comes from the Dr. Hal Wissel Basketball Shooting: Confidence, Rhythm and Mechanics DVD. Another DVD that covers basketball shooting errors and corrections in great detail is the Dr. Hal Wissel Basketball Shooting: Make Your Shot Automatic DVD. The DVDs are available at the Basketball World website.

  • @bonisboy Shots that are short are most often caused by one or more of the following errors:

    1. Incomplete follow-through

    2. Not using legs

    3. Slow rhythm or pause in rhythm.

Determine by feel the error that is causing your shot to be short and correct it with a positive word such as "Through! for follow-through, "Legs! for using legs and and "Rhythm!" for a quick, free flowing rhythm with no pause. View other shooting video clips on the coachwissel website.

  • Guys im a great inside the arc 15 foot shooter but i cant get the right power on my threes, what you you suggest for this :/

  • @MrMONSLER420

Rhythm and range go together. Rhythm are gained from the quick down and up action of your knees. As your knees go up your shooting arm goes up. They work together. Say the trigger words "Down and up!" from the start of your shot to the release of the ball. Emphasize the last word "Up!" Eliminate any pause in your shooting motion. This will give you the force you want to make three pointers. Visit the coachwissel website to view other video clips on shooting.

  • i have no idea what to do with my left hand when i shoot, it usually ends up pushing the ball to the left to cause a miss. help please!!

  • @BrownsSuckGoSteelers Watch the section of the video that covers correcting sidespin due to thumbing the ball. Practice shooting with your left thumb squeezed next to your left index finger to eliminate thumbing. Your first few shots will tend to miss to the left, because you are used to getting some force from your left thumb. Emphasize the key word "Straight!" as you release the ball and your shot will start to go straight with backspin.

May all your shots hit "Nothing but net!"

  • @ShootBetter thanks so much! that helped my shot so much. have a great day man

  • my shooting techique was awful ... until i saw this tanks a lot

  • This taught me alot! Thanks !

  • genius.

  • what is rhythm?

  • @bokiho Rhythm means free flowing and smooth motion, not interupted by a pause or stop. Rhythm in shooting comes from the down and up motion of your knees. As the legs go up the shooting arm goes up. They work together. Rhythm gives you range.

  • i love how whenever they make a shot their hand stays in the air for 10 more seconds.

  • that thumb technique on the off hand along with concentrating on your index finger really helps, i got my shot back finally

  • Jordans teacher

  • these guys got strength man,....2 point no tiptoe no jump wth/...

  • Hey coach you got some good advice here I like it! I tried and I'm doing pretty good with the straight thing.

  • How do I get a good shooting form if I have really small hands? (length of one and half a mobile phone from wrist to tip of middle finger), so small that I couldn't grip the ball with a hand? I could shoot a decent mid range jumper but with a really slow release which forces me to avoid jump shooting making me one-dimensional on offense.

  • @thebroadcastviewer Change your negative thinking to positive. Small hands do not negatively affect shooting form. Balance the ball with your little finger and ring finger of your non-shooting hand under the ball. Place your shooting hand behind the ball facing the rim. Start your shot high for a quick release and less chance for error and less chance for your shot to be blocked. Use the down and up action of your knees for rhythm and range. Go to CoachWissel website for more video clips.

  • this is like one of the best coaches, the one who doesnt bitch in your face all the time and the coach who doesnt try to help. he tells you what your doing wrong and he incourages you.

  • Thank you so much for posting this, it has helped me a lot over the past few months now.

  • great coach, I will use these tips!

  • this seriosuly works no joke. in games if i miss the next shot i say what was wrong with my last one. i swear haha

  • great video

  • Thank you very much,I have always been good at bbal but my problem is shooting it the same every time.I think this will help alot.

  • Coach Wissel you are a genius!! Im spending 1 whole practice utilizing these key words to help them correct their errors. Then using your shooting off the dribble drills.

  • I actually liked the stuff he was saying...I would definitly work with this guy

  • good vid

  • j liked the coach

  • i have a problem. I have been to summer camps and have been taught to shoot by Tim "the target" Sullivan. i am a big kid (13 years old 150 lbs) and i weight lift. My problem is that when i shoot jumpshots, they dont have much arc. I shoot 3 pointers really well (i can make 3 to 4 out of every 5 shots) and my freethrow percentage is 68%. When i try to arc it more, i either shoot too hard or come up slightly short. I do make jump shots the way i shoot but i would like to correct this problem to i

  • @sk8erboy123NL Most shots that are long can be corrected by raising your shooting arm up higher. Recommended trigger word is "Up!" Some long shots are caused by leaning your shoulders back when you shoot. Leaning your shoulders back flattens the shot causing the ball to hit the back rim. Recommended trigger word is "Front!" or "Head in!" to key your head and shoulders going forward to the basket when you shoot.

  • I'm confused what finger should the ball be released from

  • @03NE0 We recommend releasing the ball off the pads of your index finger. There are more sensory motor neurons in the pads of your index finger than any other finger. Sensory imput determines motor output. Visit the coachwissel website and view the video clip on the "ThreeFinger Drill."

  • Very good video! I give it at least a 4 out of 5. This is my first year coaching and I'm trying to teach my players to self-correct their errors. I think this will really help.

  • I play a lot of basketball when i shoot, I bring the ball above my head, It feels very natural yet when i try and do any other technique it feels uncomfotable. Any tips on how i should improve in my shooting (FG is around 60% unopposed)

  • @moneyinthebag123 It is not about feeling uncomfortable. It is about being effective. The more correct practice you do the more your shot will feel comfortable.

  • This is a great way to break bad habits for kids 8 to 10 year olds. I will incorporate this into my practices. Thanx Coach!!

  • is there a way to prevent shooting with 2 hands lol. I shoot it with my right but at times my left hand messes it up. how can i correct that?

  • Wow hope they respect this coach I'm a beginner and got twice as good after watching this and learnt to correct my self

    Thank you

  • can please add subtitle? -.-"

  • @weixianlee

Dr. Hal Wissel Basketball Shooting: Make Your Shot Automatic DVD has subtitles. Order at Basketball World.

  • this coach is the man!

  • This video has definitely been the most helpful tool for my shot and my shooting ability. Thanks a lot for posting this.

  • how tall are you ?

    is 5'10 good for basketball?

  • This is how my shot got way better, thanks!

  • This really helped me. Thanks

  • How would he teach shawn marion to shoot?

  • thanks this helped

  • hey coach i know your teaching shooting but can i ask, What do i do when someone keeps hand check fouling me when i drive in? i play without refs or at the park soemtimes. i get Hand-checked alot. they have that stiff arm when playing d or keep giving me that little push when i drive in. it really aggrivates me because its a foul and ruins almost the whole game for me . i can shoot rly good but i love 2 slash. Spin move sometimes works but they just handcheck me back on the move. what do i do?

  • @ndnplaya36 Develop bulldog tenacity. Be mentally and physically strong. When you drive to the basket expect to be fouled and finish strong. When you are hand checked, consider a retreat dribble to get your defender leaning at you and then drive by him. Be confident and positive. Keep your poise and never let a defender aggrevate you. Building your strength through a supervised weight training program will definitely help you both physically and mentally.

  • What do you mean by one leg straight?

  • leg , straight , point !

  • why do u say up when it hits back rim?

  • @CannedKoolaid Correct a missed shot that hits the back rim with the key word "Up!" This means to raise your shooting arm higher to get a higher arc. Missing long might also be to leaniing your shoulders back which will flatten your shot. In this case correct with the word "Front!" to trigger your shoulders going toward the basket as you shoot.

This is covered in the Dr. Hal Wissel Basketball Shooting: Make Your Shot Automatic DVD available at the BasketballWorld website.

  • im a left hand shooter and no madder how hard i try i can never keep my elbow in when i shoot. do you have any tips for me?

  • thanks for the help... i was trying to get too much power out of my legs(bending too far) my mid range jumper seems to work a lot better now. I'm definitely favoriting this video in case i need it again.

  • The best teacher/coach i've seen, you can tell he really knows the game of basketball

  • gotta love this coach !

  • For close and far away shots do you use the same shooting style? When I shoot form far away and make an arc, sometimes it goes over the board, or it hits like the very back of the rim and it doesn't go in. When I shoot from close and make an arc it just goes over the board even further. Also is the way you hold the ball the same? For far shots, I put my right hand very bottom and left to the side. Also why do most of the NBA players jump back just after they take shots? Great video by the way.

  • Best shooting video i've seen in a long time
