@Thesekocan You are correct about the cotton picker but this machine here, depicted in the video as well as the title, is indeed a cotton gin, my friend.
@ZX2ManDave All cotton plantations had cotton gins. The gin separated the cotton fibers from the seeds, but the cotton still needed to be picked by hand. The cotton gin increased the demand for slave labor. If cotton could be processed 10 times or 100 times faster, that means a plantation needed 10 times or 100 times as many slaves.
Ever since I was a kid I have heard about this device from relatives and how it revolutionized the industry and brought about slavery. (Many of them grew and worked the cotton fields when they were younger.) Until now I had always seen pictures but had no idea how it worked. Many thanks!
Last 4th grade project ever...completed! Aggghhh! Onto the 5th grade. Thanks, YouTube for stuff like this...my kid "gets it" so much better with this kind of media. To think, all I had was an aged set of encyclopedias passed down from a previous generation. So, here we have it...learning about the Industrial Age via the Information Age in order that our kids can be smarter & save our world during this, the Green Age.

Why should i as a successful plantation owner buy one of these new fangled contraptions when i have plenty of slave hands to do it for me?
