All of the re-built facades on the backlot tram tour are now officially open. The new KING KONG studio tram tour attraction is being built, and you can see it on the tour. It's scheduled to open Summer 2010. My husband drives the Universal Studios tour trams, and his tram was one of the last to drive through the old KING KONG, the night before it burned to the ground.. Nothing can replace it... The new one is going to be a like 3-D movie you drive through in the tram. I miss KING KONG...

My husband drives the Universal Studios tour trams. The actual BTTF COURTHOUSE (also used in Ghost Whisperer) located in "Courthouse Square" DID NOT burn down, just singed a little. The facades directly across the street in front of it, and to it's left, all burned down. The "Same As It Never Was" antique store from "Ghost Whisperer" across the street to the right, WAS NOT touched by the fire. (But Ghost Whisperer fimed the courthouse scenes at Warner Bros until everything was rebuilt)

If it does get replaced, it won't be for a while. Universal isn't exactly free from financial strains. Odds are, they only rebuilt the sets that would be used for filming, while putting off more visitor-friendly exhibits until the funds start climbing again. "Medium" doesn't need to be filmed in a King Kong sound stage :p

They are in the process to rebuild the King Kong area. It's going to be based most likley on Peter Jackson's version. I'll be going to Universal next month to see the process.

The film vault was not damaged. It was the film shipping/receiving building that was lost, along with part of the video vault, but everything that was lost was already a copy - no masters were lost. The fire was accidentally started by a roofing contractor working on a backlot building. Kong will be back! In fact, we're reopening the collapsing bridge in the meantime. It will probably take two years to rebuild Kong. Courthouse square was not lost -- only the side was damaged.

Ahhh, gotcha... Actually, it was started by an outside vendor -- a roofing contractor was doing some overnight hot mopping on one of the rooftops. Fire regulations (and the hot work permit) require that they provide a one hour fire watch after the hot work is completed, which they did. However, after the hour was up, they went to "lunch" (at around 3 a.m.) and apparently something was smoldering for long enough that it took over an hour to catch.

no the one in florida was a seperate ride, since they dont have a tour out there. its a bus ride that king kong "lifts" the tram up or something i dont really know since i visited florida after the attraction was taken out, but no its not the same king kong.
