@MyChemRomancePwndYou Slightly different, but still on point. He said in his book: If the WWF was based on talent, TAKA Michinoku would be WWF Champion.
@SuperDragonICP Well its suppost to be a Double Underhook Brainbuster but TAKA didnt want to Hurt his teacher so he turned it into a Double Underhook DDT
Japanese wiki says the MD1 is a Pyramid Driver (straightjacket sitdown powerbomb). Knowing no japanese, there is a link to the page of Yumiko Hotta and her finisher infact was a Pyramid Driver too :)
Oddly enough, that's not the first time I've heard of that. In fact, the announcer refers to the Pyramid Driver as the MD during the match with Sasuke.
Taka Does Not Need To Step Into WWE ever again after the racist sterotype gimmick of old martial arts films with poor english dubs they had given him and Funaki
never was crazy about the Michinoku Driver II, but I like the original. By the way, why is it that TAKA is always spelled in all caps? what is the purpose behind that?
I remember actually believing he had a chance at winning the title in that match against Triple H with the APA making sure no one interfered.
It's a shame he was mostly used as a jobber to the stars or a comedic heel (Though I'll admit I liked the "EVIL" schtick and it produced an awesome t-shirt.)
Whenever I created a wrestler ina videogame, I'd usually use the Michinoku Driver II as my finisher.
In the last few years, definitely. However, the first couple of years with his reign as Light Heavyweight Champion, he was used rather well, and I had the honor of seeing him compete live in 1998 against Brian Christopher at a house show that featured an insane spot with Brian evading the Spaceman Plancha, but TAKA simply dropped from the top to the apron on his feet, and went over the turnbuckle to land the Spaceman Moonsault instead.
when i 1st saw him in wwf he was totaly different to anything else they had. i think that held him back because he made shawn micheals and the rest look average.
He sure didn't stand the test of time with them sadly. He helped define the LH championship, got stuck in some memorable stables and storylines (Though Kaientai Deluxe is far better than WWF Kaientai) but his last years before he left weren't much. But from what he got out of the WWE helped make the presentation of his current product.
I loved me some TAKA back in the days when he wrestled for the WWF/WWE, and I still enjoy his work to his day. It seems that he enhanced his repertoire with more technical tactics.
I would agree, simply because Lyger had to adjust, while TAKA wasn't quite as beaten up with injuries as Lyger was. TAKA was able to retain some of his famed aerial offense, and add a little more, even.
He even had a WWF Title match against Triple H (Taka put him a hell of a match, but you know that Vince won't put Taka as champion, and less winning to his son-in-law)
trple h wasnt his son in law at that time but i did love that match wwf FINALLY let taka actually show some chance of being good in wwf since his debut but of course they wait till his last match
He rounded off his moveset much better imo. The precise strikes and mat offense still makes him the man to beat anywhere. Even his match with Madoka was pure execution.
this guy is awesome

I don't exactly get the appeal of the Michinoku II. Is it anything more than a body slam lift into a driver?

That particular clip is the only one of Michinoku using the move.
