  • 22:04 White moves Rd1+, Black has to capture Rook @ d1 or move King, King cannot move close to the Queen, so he captures Rxd1. White's next move is Qxc5+, captures queen and gives check.

  • when you said pinned, in the sense it could not move to any further places after taking the queen?

    [Earlier Comment by Svecify]

  • 12:52 after Qe6 why not d5 and win a bishop?

  • He says "uhhhh" 600 times in this video...geeze

  • I swear you cant castle after being checked?

  • when white castled, he if he hadent done that he could of moved a pawn up which if the queen takes the knight can take

  • Can anyone explain why at 21:50 , white doesn't play rook to d8? Black is forced to take the rook and the black queen falls through the discover attack via white's queen, while also landing a check if black opted not to take with it's king.

  • What is the score or rank for 20 to 29??? I got a 25, which is not great but I have not played since High School...

  • After white plays Rook to e1 at 09:09 if black plays pawn e3 is it not a good move cause it thretans a checkmate Qg2 or ehite looses a night on d2 plz explain

  • in 19:05 if Ra1 by white then Kd3

  • in 19:18 white moved Nc4 isn`t Ra1- Rd1 is better move? He can`t move his queen couse of check and white can simply get blacks queen.

  • would you kindly explain why not R x a5 there at the end? material up, plus threat of Ra7+ either further netting the king or winning the exchange seemed strong to me. also, i'm wondering if you think it would've been perfectly reasonable for black to resign by this point of the game? thank you v much for your videos. quite helpful

  • The Black Queen blocked the other queen and the knight if it would go after the king

  • @11:09 couldn't the queen move forward blocking the pawn/protecting the knight?

  • i beat the grand master in a simulator once but i set the time limit to 1 minut and just move everything i could while he had a delay befor he moves. now thats stragigirer!

  • the opening is called the ponziani

  • at 12:24 why not Ncb4? attacking the queen and bishop?

  • 23 points!

  • u should more videos like this!!!

  • I got a 27.

  • At 25:11 I liked Qg6+ and at 26:09 I liked Rb5+. Just not quite as good I guess, although both are winning.

  • forget it, i saw it like 3 seconds after i posted the comment, already erased, sry

  • Sweet vid. Super helfull.

  • at 12:53 what about d5 instead of Nb3?

  • what about f3 instead of rook e1 at 9:00

  • at 19:08 why not Rh1 winning the queen....

  • @16:49 white could have win blacksqueen with a fork by Nd5

  • @Svecify It's pinned unfortunately. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • @jrobichess Why in minute 19 13 the rook did not pined the Black qween to the king? Rook to d1?

  • @bbeniamini1 If Rd1 then Nd3

  • 19:10 why not rook a1 to d1? it would win a queen

  • @croopaN Viable move but not as strong as other options due to black getting a better square for its knight.

  • @croopaN black knight to d3 breaks the pin so it doesnt win a queen

  • on 17:10 ~ why not knight takes bishop check?

  • 25 But I took the liberty to give myself extra points for spotting both possible lines...

This was very good...I`m very excited about chess now...thx jrobi!

  • At 17:00 you said comment if you new why it covers both pieces.

On a5 where the white queen was, If white played b6 and exchanged.

White would lose its advantage on the upper left area, so white wouldn't exchange.

But white can't take the bishop on d5 with his knight on e3 because it will be check.

The only good move for white then would be to give up his threat on the king by taking his queen and killing the bishop on d5.

  • @exodiaj

    Btw got 18.

  • At 19:05 why didn't white move it's rook to D1 so black loses it's queen?

  • @ 12:53 if the queen would fall back to e6 wouldn't white play d5 instead of Knight b3? (ps:keep up the good work!)

  • before casteling at 8 min and 27 seconds

  • Why not move the rook from e1 to d1, pinning the queen, at 19:15?

  • @MrCynix

    The Knight would have blocked

  • At 22:02, why not capture the black rook with the white rook itself...

the next move could be Re8+ which gives us an open queen...

Otherwise, at that position.. trading queens wouldn't really hurt I suppose...

    Just something i felt....

Would like to know if it would be bad...

    Thanks,

    Brian

  • @brianlfernandes

if he did, white would lose his queen

  • At 22:02, why not capture the black rook with the white rook itself...

  • please explain to me why knight takes d 5 at 17 mins into the video isnt the best move, white steals blacks queen with a simple fork

  • @skeezy1188 It's pinned unfortunately.

  • @skeezy1188

if the knight move, the white king is in check, which makes it an illegal move

  • When the Queen takes Knight on D6 at 19:02, i would have pinned his Queen with my Rook, means a trade of a Rook for a Queen.

  • @LPFFE101

black can move his knight to d3

  • @LPFFE101

black would have moved his knight to d3

  • What happened to 20-30? (I had 27, so what would I have? A great performance?)

  • when you were talkink about pawn to c4 at 15:23 i think the best move would have been knight to b4 or am I mistaken?

  • @mahanhen I dont think so because bxc4, pxc4, p-e3, r/bxe3, qxg2mate, but if white goes r-e2 after the p-e3 black can go kxf4 helping the queen cuz black can then turn and go k-h3 check, which makes white play pxh3 and then black moves q-h1 check then king will have to block the rook on f2 and q-g2mate... but idunno, I agreed with the move p-c4 move.

  • @mahanhen also, i just read what i posted when i said anthing w. "k" i meen night.... not king ^^ noob mistake on my part.

  • at 19:12 why not move the rook from a1 to d1?

  • @philylennon then black knight to d3 breaks pin and gets better position, defended by pawn

  • 19 pnts.

  • Yea, at 1915 the rook could move over to d1 to pin the queen but then the pin is broke by moving the night on f4 to d3 and the pawn on e4 is protecting the square. Then from there it takes too much effort to rid the night. Simply exchanging the nights from the board was more appealing.

  • in theory white has d5 rather nb3 at 12:54 correct? :) Thanks for the video! These are very exciting and interactive. One of my favorite series of yours.

  • at 12:27 what if you came up with pawn to B4? Does that end up badly for white?

  • at 16:11 1. NxBd5!!+ (if Black 1. ...QxNd5 2. QxNg6 winning the piece back) Kd1 2. Qa5+ Kd7 Qc7#.......white comes out in a better position either way after NxBd5+

    at 17:25 1. Qf7+ Ne7 2.Kh1 Rhf8 3.Qxe8 Rxe8 4.Nd5+ wins Queen and Rook for Queen and Knight..

at 24:09 1.Qe7 Kb7 2. Rc7 (# in 2) nothing can stop White from having either mate or dominant position

    20 points w/ feedback.....

  • At 19:15 Rd1 would pin the queen behind the king.

  • I loved this exercise, thanks. I do have a couple moves to add. You might see good reasons not to do so, if so please explain. First I seen a knight fork the king and queen.(17:05, the knight can fork the king and queen by taking the bishop instead of the queen taking). I seen another queen capture (19:15 Rook to d1, pinning the queen to the king) rook for a queen is good trade, I probably would have made this move. If I overlooked something feel free to correct me. Thanks for the exercise

  • @beluemma At 17:05 The night on e3 was pinned to the king by the black queen, however i agree with the pin that could have been made at 19:15 resulting in the capture of the queen

  • Thanks jrobichess!!

sorry about the ridiculous question. It was 2 30 am and my brain was on melt down. I want you to know that I really appreciate everything your doing here on You Tube, There has been a remarkable improvement in my game play because of it. It is soul enriching. Thank you

    kaspetto

  • at 16:16 I would of played knight takes on d5 putting the king in check, if the queen retakes the white queen can take the knight on d4.

  • At 17.25 why doesnt move queen to f7 with check forking rook and knight?

  • at 19:36 isnt d1 strong as well with threat of rook takes e5?!?!?!? comments

  • Hands down, the greatest game ever created!

  • he cant take the bishop because of check with queen on b6

  • I got 16 points, I would screw up most at the endgame by the looks of where I lost most my points

  • At 19:04 white plays rook from a1 to d1 pinning the queen and gaining material

  • at 17:00 minute mark... why would white not take the d5 bishop with the e3 knight and split the queen and king with the check.... I'm baffled?

  • @kaspetto It's pinned.

  • at 16:50minz why didnt white just eat the bischop with his knight moving from E3 to D5 thus putting the king in check forcing him to move the king and leaving blacks queen open for the white knight to eat it??

  • @lasdeep022 It's pinned unfortunately.

  • No rating for 26? D:

  • at 22 mins in when queen caps rook on e4. wouldn't rook to d8 work? that rook will have to be taken enabling white to cap blacks queen. Or am I missing something big= Havenät played chess for too long :)

  • @HugSeal Nevermind me. I'm just beeing stupid atm :)

  • 11 points :)

  • at 12:52 when QE6 you could just move the pawn up to D5 so you gain the bischop peice and then have more attackers on the E4 pawn. btw i like this series you do a great job!

  • 19 points :( Nice video.Take care

  • 19 points :( Nice video take care

  • 19 points :( Nice video take care

  • When the black queen was on d6 white could have moved Rook from a to d1 pinning the queen

    min 20

  • @patrick4cs The rook could have been blocked by the knight on f3 with protection from the pawn

  • After fxe4, why not Qxe4

  • lol. I like the castling move.

  • y didn't he take the queen fork? free queen?

  • @grimstad9 Pinned unfortunately.

  • Comment removed

  • 19:10, Rd1, Nd5, Rxd5 maybe black does Rf8 but even if he does Queen delivers check at g5 then King moves or rook protects and black queen crumbles. Result : Black queen and black knight falls in 3 moves.

Correct me if im wrong plz.

  • Wow, I got Bb5, Qxc6, d5, Nd2, c4, Qxd5, Qxe4, R+c4, Q+e4, and R+d7. I didn't think I was going to get any points LOL

  • at 16:55 y not capture bishop with the knight winning the queen

  • @12345cantthink It's pinned.

  • @jrobichess i see oh thanx

  • 08:21 i looked into it a bit but i'm wondering why black didnt just push the pawn to e3 to threaten mate and possibly pick up a piece. I know i must be missing something but i don't see it. could someone clarify what would happen if black had pushed e3 immediately after white castles?

  • at 19:13 white could have moved the rook on a1to d1 that way the queen is pined to the king

  • Viable move but black gets a better square for his knight so not as strong as other options. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • at 17:07 why didn't the horse e3 capture the bishop, like that he gives check and the queen is in danger

  • at 16:50 Why not capture the bishop with the knight?

  • I'm 17 and have been playing for about a month now. I think some of the moves I though of could have actually been better, but nevertheless I got 22.

  • the queen is pinning it

  • how stupid of me.

  • ah ok its pinned

  • at 17:16 why wasnt Kd5 played?

  • I did about 10 moves and I'm fairly a beginner...I've been learning chess by not only practising but also watching videos and playing chessmaster 10 acdamey mode..I'm 16 now and hopefully I get better with time ...Cuz I love chess..and it's becoming a passion for me.

  • I loved this video too much...I hope you continue this series...

  • at 16:15, isn't Ke5 an acceptable move? regardless this video was a great learning tool, thanks alot!

  • For 19:06 there is a way better move!

Rd1... Rook is pinning the queen, which will give give white a Gigantic adavantage? Im i missing something?

  • 16 points, and I am only 12

  • yea...some people are just not ment to play chess I got 30 ...haha

  • yea I guess so. it's just a hobbie of mine. at least I gotta life and I don't spend all of my time studying (sorry for bad spelling) chess tactics.

  • 17:00 a lot better move is Nxd5, forking the queen and king. After something like Kd7, just capture with the knight.

  • It's pinned unfortunately.

  • Sorry. Maybe i was tired when i posted that..

  • 14:55 Kb4?

  • at 19:06 I would move the queens rook A1 to D1 pinning the blacks queen

  • @malvado218 Knight to d3

  • the knight can just move to d3 stopping that pin and white isnt up ant position or peices

    but still nice try :)

  • i think at 17:01 black was thinking whites being aggressive and tactical with the queen and what not so why would he sacrafice it to the king, thus garding the bishop at the same time

  • At 12:55, after Qe6, can't white play d5 to fork the queen and bishop?

  • There's a bishop check unfortunately plus a really nicely placed knight.

  • Would moving the fpawn one space at 8:55 be a viable move?

  • @FunKingBastard It loses the exchange if E takes F

  • 16:50

    after Qe6 to b6

N to d5xbishop check "king queen fork"

  • Doesn't work due to pin unfortunately if it's the position I am thinking about.

  • your right good call

  • at 17:32 why doesn't the white queen go to f7 and is that a good move

  • Qf7 - R32

(not Ne3-d5+ as Ne3 is pinned)

Qxg6 Bxh2+ loses the white queen for 2 peices.

    Kxh2, Qxg6

  • 17:43 Instead of Nd4, why not Qf7 which picks up the hanging knight? (Any interposition drops the queen)

  • look at 19:15

    white plays knight to D4

if he moved one of the rook's to D1, he would capture the Queen

  • At 17:03, instead of capturing the bishop on d5 with the queen, I took the bishop with the knight forking the king and queen. Is that a good move.

  • It's pinned unfortunately.

  • kJaBsmasher, the knight is pinned to the king so it is no possible to fork the king and queen

  • at 17:20 I would have played knight takes bishop forking the queen and the king and then sacrificing the knight to get rid of the bishop.

why is this a bad idea?

  • edit:

at 17:00 and forking queen and king to get rid of the queen

  • Knight's pinned unforuntately.

  • ...I'm stupid xD

    but thanks for the reply

  • I enjoyed this -- you should do more! 19 points.

  • the knigth it pined:/

  • at 16:52 wouldn't it be a good move to do : Kxd5 forking the king and queen and after the king moves Kxb6?

  • awesome video bro

  • at 19:07 i came up with rook to D1. I think it is superior to knight to C4 because it pins the queen down to the king.

  • It's still strong but lets black get a better square for the knight. Both are winning, but only the strongest counts for a point. Thanks for checking it out!

  • Well you got me there i did not notice the knight move. Its over looking things like that which holds me back from progressing.

  • I think the Rook to d1 move proposed is better because after black's reply Ne2+ then Kh1 and the pin on the queen is still there. Interesting situation for white since I think the game was going from bad to worse already.

  • why not fork king and queen at 17:00?

  • Can't due to pin.

  • well anyway, 13 points

  • 22:01 rook to d 8 next queen c5 check

  • at 12:57 black cant play queen e6, white pushes the pawn to d5 and that results in a fork. or so i believe

  • in a regular game in the starting position would it be a bad idea to push the pawn up to d4 after black plays d5.

    Please reply, BDM

  • Hi. I've just started studying chess much more closely.

I was wondering why at 19:05, white could have moved the rook on d1 pinning the queen.

    Wouldn't that have guaranteed a queen-less black?

  • Black can place the knight in-between and gets a more active square for the knight. It's still winning for white, but not as strong as the other options. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • the scenario you went thru at 25:27 doesnt make any sense, a grandmaster would not make the moves made for black, first he would drop a queen like that and when the pond attacked the king he would of just taken instead of goin back into a forking position

  • I think you're missing the pin in the position.

  • i am completely lost, i have no idea how rock to d1 after black takes the bishop on d6 is not the best move, would that guarantee the loss of the black queen??

  • At 19:04 wouldn't rook to D1 be a much better move, pinning his queen?

  • It's not as strong because it lets the opponent's knight get a more active square. Still winning, but not the best move in the position.

  • If Rook d1 is played the knight can come to d5. But couldn't white then capture with Ne3xd5 being protected by the rook and queen

  • @ 17:07, why wouldn't Knight to D6 be a better move? The check essentially guarantees the forfeit of the black Q...

  • It can't move in that position - pinned down.

  • Really good video Jrobi, I was able to learn a lot from this and your other tutorials along with your website.

  • Jrobi this is an excellent video. I know at the end of the video you say you are going to make more videos like these and I hope you will. I had a lot of fun going through this video over the course of about 2 hours.

  • I will be doing more of these for sure - thanks for checking it out coldstayr!

  • I got 18. I had two more ideas that I thought were sound, though:

    1. at 17:00, Nxd5 is a royal fork that wins the queen.

    2. at 19:10, I think Rad1 is more forcing, because of the absolute pin on the queen.

  • Look out for that nasty pin when considering the fork. As for Rad1 - it allows black to get a better position for its knight. Still winning, but not as strong as what the GM played. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • Ah, smart. Kudos on all your work. The videos and your website are really helpful.

  • i know! Easy royal Fork!!!

  • Pin = no royal fork.

  • I am confused Jrobi, isn't it a royal fork if the knight pins the king and queen?

  • I think you mean "attacks" but since it's pinned in the position to the king it can't move, so can't fork. Hope that helps.

  • ah, of course! My apologies! Thanks for the clarifications. That was bugging me... Thanks again.

  • WTH dint white played Nxd5 @16:50 i thought i could win the easiest point!?!?!?

  • Pin if I am thinking of the position you're referring to.
