As Carson go more famous, he worked less, putting in 3-day weeks and taking extensive vacations and he became more elitist. So, Carson's opinion of Leno is irrelevant. Leno is a hard worker, doing shows on weekends and days off and in fact lives off his club cash and banks the Tonight Show money.
I don't have to admit anything. Leno is no less patriotic and gave a similarly heartfelt speech on his show. Your point was that Letterman is somehow better and I'm not sold on your point. Your woeful misinformation is at least as profound; your vitriolic statements about Leno would be the proof of that.
It seems like Jay is not all that nice a person, and that those deeds he in fact carries out are kind of a screen so that people actually have something good to say about him. But that´s just me
Leon is a better humanitarian that Letterman, who puts himself first--especially where his fly is concerned. I've yet to see Letterman do anything for the military, the 911 service workers, or donate time and money like Leno.

@katmor Leno has repeatedly donated money--$100,000 to help Afghan women, 9/11 responders, etc. and did free shows in Vegas and other venues after 9/11 to help flagging tourist economies and others who suffered economic loss after the attacks. Furthermore, he has made numerous free appearances at hospitals, etc and donated money to patient care and to a wounded soldier fund. Letterman simply can't match Leno. Oh, and he doesn't cheet on his wife of nearly 30 years.
@sickphil71Firstly, you have to admit your ignorance over Letterman's visit to Iraq. You may have also forgotten his speech after 9/11. It was eloquent, emotional and patriotic. Healing words can be extremely powerful. Secondly, you're also unaware of Letterman's own charitable organization called American Foundation for Courtesy and Grooming to which he is the main contributor and which from 2001-2009 has donated 7.7 million dollars to various charitable organizations across the United States.

Finally, you will never know if Leno is faithful to his wife and to be honest, a host's personal life is not a big issue for me. Because Leno got Tonight back after Conan stole it through his perpetual whining? Conan couldn't deliver the numbers that NBC needed and wasn't willing to take a later time slot. Again, it was the decision of NBC. Leno has beaten Letterman handily ever since 1994. He was #1 when he left and #1 when he came back and thus NBC is making more money again.
@katmor I think we're going a little wide here, but why would Carson's opinion of Leno be relevant? Carson was by many accounts a cold person (ask his first 2 wives) and could be mean-spirited. During Carson's era, he had many sub hosts and Leno was the most popular and was willing to work for less money. He always came in prepared and didn't make the demands that others (including Dave) made. For the first 10 years he got paid half of what Dave while beating him and did so to help profits.
