  • @pummisher i would love to buy the Tesla Model S but that will have to wait for a few years since I'm still studying ;)

  • 100 mile range? Wow that's worth the money. So I can go from point A to 100 yards from point A and then plug it in for an hour. That's practical.

  • wooooppp deee doooo. in our area electricity rates just jumped 25% and Natural Gas prices dropped. most of electricity is made from burning gas or coal. so go figure. i'll stick with the one step of liquid power cars. burn liquids to produce electricity and then plug in your car? or just put the fing liquid in your car? hmmmm.... which seems more efficient to you when we have already built he infrastructure. Besides KIA MOTORS has GDI and avg. 50MPG city/hwy on the new RIO ... so whatup

  • Automotive Solar Panels should come standard. I see none on the RAV4 EV.

Wouldn't solar panels on the roof and hood increase range?

    (Trickle Charge)

  • @michaelscipione33 not much though, only about 3 miles. most solar panels on cars are for ventilation only. Until the solar cells become for efficient and more compact, i dont think it would be worth while to make it standard.

  • I think they may be trying to do what Tesla did when they chose to develop the Roadster before the Model S. They hope to come right out with a bold statement and show that their technology works well even in an unexpected platform. That way, they'll win consumers' confidence right off the bat and be even more successful when they go back and introduce more conventional models. The EV Rav4 also has the potential advantage of appealing to consumers that otherwise may not be interested in an EV.

  • I've always loved the Rav4 growing up. Was going to be my first car, but didn't work out that way. I wanted a Tesla car when I first saw them, but they are EXPENSIVE! Now I can get both in one car!! Win, win for me. Plus I love the real world 100mpc!! Was going to get a Nissan Leaf, but I found what I've been looking for.

  • @richardandrewsjr do the math. electric cars are useless. you burn NG to produce Electricity in this world or you can burn the damn fuel in your engine. it costs less to run a CIG engine like the GDI in the new KIA RIO with active ECO and stall out technology. it will give you better than 50MPG average, cost you $18K and no expensive batteries to replace. you are not saving the world buying an electic car as the world is hurt producing electricity. just buy a good gas mizing Kia RIO!

  • @maximumvalues

Even with most electricity being produced with fossil fuels the electric motor's significant efficiency advantage over the old ICE give it the win. At a standstill an EV consumes almost no fuel at all, unlike the ICE. With internal combustion you have *one* choice of propellant, with electric you have many.

Prices for EVs will go down, not up, range will go up, not down.

  • @maximumvalues What are you blabbering about? I don't care about the world. I care about the money I spend at the pump. I said I liked the Rav4 growing up and I love the Tesla Vehicles. You actually need to do the math. No matter how you cut it, your going to save in the long run with a electric car. Especially if you use solar power to charge it up with. I keep cars till they break down, and seeing that people still drive the original Rav4 EV. I think I will get a great deal. Nice try tho Troll

  • wouldnt it make more sense to make an electric version of their subcompact...the yaris?

  • @Mr1wd Yeah, I think the Rav4 is an odd choice.

  • @pummisher well i find it cool that there is a company that builds a "big" electric car, since most electric cars so far have always been quite small cars. This shows that even cars that need more power can easily be electric.

  • @senoner90 Every car should have the option for a hybrid drive train. Was thinking about that for a few years now. I was tempted to buy a Camry Hybrid because it doesn't stick out like the Prius and has better suspension. Finances led me to get a Matrix instead which is similarly dimensioned as a Prius. One of these days I might just trade up slightly.

  • @Mr1wd its because toyota wants to beat their competitors. people would like more to have a bigger electric car

  • @Mr1wd i also think the camry would make a good choice, but remember, they already did make a rav4 ev from 1997 to 2003, and they are still on the road, and also, i dont think people think "SUV" when someone says "EV" so it will give america a change to test drive it, and possibly buy an ev suv
