@aragorn1780 no this is not rotoscope. rotoscope involves drawing cartoons on top of the actor's face and likeness. This is just simple animation. If it were rotoscope everything in here would have a much higher resolution.

can someone tell me what type of animation is this... like what effects they use and all that?

@DeckardA1A1 it's called sakuga animation. Particular looks like the one used in the escape scene depend on the key animator personal style (in this case it was Shinya Ohira). This one is a masterpiece and basically is what happens when a sakuga animator has a really good budget for his work (and that's reeeally rare). Other masters are Norio Matsumoto, Shingo Yamashita...there are a lot of sakuga animators, just search "sakuga" on youtube or google :p

I read somewhere that the school in this clip is actually replicated out of a school in California. I think schools that are built like that were really cool. I live in the San Antonio area and I noticed that all the old schools have been getting torn down and all the new buildings they build make the schools look a lot more like jails. The classrooms inside them have no windows and most of the doors have either no window or its really small.

@1Laughingman: It's actually the school that I graduated from. It's Alameda High School in Alameda, CA. It is pretty dead on!!! Most of the school was built in the 1930's.
