It's a plot against her husband with her lover. She says: "When I stare in your eyes I see the image of God" to her supposed kidnapper. He responses "Well girl, listen out for the phonecall and pray for a flood" (flood of money). Then later it goes on "She said "I love you" and pleaded for hero to stay..."I gave him (husband) my heart now he's left it to die, and I know I can't go back." The man plotting the scheme with her decides being with her doesn't pay off & leaves and she ends up alone.

The story of the song is: The husband has to collect money for a ransom, as his wife has been "kidnapped".

The wife hasn't been truly kidnapped though, she's staging it to test her husband to see if he loves her enough to win her back, or else to escape a relationship she resents.

Partway through this staged kidnapping she falls for the "kidnapper". That's why she "pleaded for her hero to stay", because she's left her husband and lost the man she began to love all at once.

@NatBassDude Doesn't really matter what it is about, but many of the lyrics of sound like a case of hostage taking/kidnapping gone wrong. The "She said I love you and pleaded for her hero to stay" sounds like Stockholm Syndrome. It really doesn't sound like if they were having an affair the man would just kill/abandon her.

This song's definitely their best. I think it's about a woman who staged a kidnapping, having her husband/boyfriend collect a million dollars and pay her 'kidnapper', her new lover, so they could leave town together. But it didn't work out, her new lover left her, and she realizes now she can never go back to the one who really loved her and is left all alone, praying for 'that dove'. Amazing stuff.

This is what I think happened.

A man and a woman were married. The woman falls in love with another man, and they start an affair with each other.

They come up with this plan; he pretends to kidnap her, and demand a ransom from the husband. Then they'd live happily together on the money.

The husband fails to collect the money, so the kidnapper/lover leaves the woman because all he wanted was the cash.

The woman ends up alone, her husband thinking she's dead.
