Come On!!! If Escobar didn't reach the ball, John Harkes would have manage to pass it to the American striker and then it would have also been a goal, even more likely than in this kind of situation. So Escobar did very well indeed, this was the only thing he could do.
There has been thousands of own goals in soccer history, many of them even more fateful or funny than this, and everyone is talking only about this one.
