@calloway322 I was gonna say when the music picks up to just limit the volume or the gain... but that probably works better. This is SUCH a powerful speech with a PERFECT song to go to it, and can be made so much better. Either way, thumbs on your comment and thumbs on the vid
I didn't know people combined this already.for weeks. I have been playing both youtube videios matching them up at this moment, because the sound..the feeling..is helping me. I lost my best friend, my gf cheated on me, and my mother is dying...I've never cried so much in these few weeks than I have in my whole life as I never cry. this...this combination makes me feel human. I just want to let you know... this..this moment..
@HippieTalks definitely the most heartfelt comment i've gotten. i'm glad this could help you. i've been in some pretty shitty situations lately as well, so i feel you. best of luck to you and just know, things will get better.
So, I think I'll have to disagree with everyone stating that the music detracts from this absolutely profound and momentous monologue in that if anything, the music compliments and accentuates the entire speech. While I would not change the film for any reason because it is absolutely perfect, that is not to say that the two cannot be combined to be just as awe-inspiring as Chaplin had originally intended. It will never be more, but it is most certainly not lesser in any way.
This is so moving and inspiring, our evolution as human beings as become our greatest down fall. As technology moves forward so does the way we hate and harm one another.Too think of a world where we are united and progress as equals is not an impossible dream. But human beings have been known to overcome challenges such as these, so why is this task harder than any other of man's accomplishments? Why is it that men die over disagreement? Love, but how do you a men that is holding a gun to you?
@amaxamon This is but of course made by someone who has a different perspective and feels that a rolling theatrical and emotional score would do this justice. The person who compiled this isn't Charlie Chaplain. I like this one a lot - in fact, the music even allows me to remember the speech even better, it is far more striking to me and affects me greater than if it had no score.
Shame about invoking the imaginary god, who is (if you believe in nonsense) responsible for all this shite in the first place. Take god out of this speach and it is as true today as it was, when Charlie boy first said it! Inception=class film :-)
@garysgreat he never mentioned god. Not once. He said science and reason not faith and misunderstanding. This is perhaps the best speech ever made in a movie. It perfectly reflects the capitalistic oppression of today just as it relfected the totilitarian problem of that era. Oppression of all kinds should be destroyed, no matter what system it comes under.
@joekopor well sorry he did lol but he was not using god as that reference. He meant that if it is a holy kingdom of heaven, a perfect kingdom, then it is within ALL men, not just a few. In other words he meant this earth, this life, is meant for all men, that all are equal. I don't think he was specifically using the kingdom of god in a religious sense, more of in a uniting, equal sense.
@joekopor please explain how Capitalism is a form of oppression - in a free (capitalist) economy, people participate in voluntary exchanges, whether it's goods for goods or labor for money, etc. Nobody is forced to do anything. If you believe the capitalist (entrepreneur) is an exploiter because he makes a profit, then please learn some credible economic theory. If you believe the U.S. is an example of "oppressive capitalism", think again - the U.S. has become essentially a Fascist economy.
Seven people think that the speech should be left as Chaplin himself intented it, without music, because it doesn't need any, it is powerfull enough on its own
@MararPatrunjica Yes but there are plenty of versions of the original on youtube if you are so inclined to view them. If you're looking for an awesome experiment, this is the one to watch.
There are so many versions of this now, but this one is synced so perfectly. The timing is just fantastic. I prefer this over even the now many HD versions. Well done my friend.
In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. From time to time we've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden.
Look up! Look up! The clouds are lifting - the sun is breaking through. We are coming out of the darkness into the light. We are coming into a new world. A kind new world where men will rise above their hate and brutality.
The soul of man has been given wings - and at last he is beginning to fly. He is flying into the rainbow - into the light of hope - into the future, that glorious future that belongs to you, to me and to all of us. Look up. Look up.
Not sure if you realise the irony, but it was Joseph Goebbels who said, "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."
@Vinco The irony is in the combination of that music with that particular film. Charlie Chaplin is making fun of a government whose propaganda minister (Joseph Goebbels) was implanting ideas in peoples' minds by telling a "lie big enough, and repeating it" - which is what Inception is all about.
It made my breath catch in my throat. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. I've never heard this speech before, and it's so powerful because it's so relevant today. The music helps it burrow into the brain through the ear and STICK to the inside of your skull. This whole speech is something everyone should listen to and HEAR, and UNDERSTAND.
@danthemango No, you'd have to watch the whole thing to understand. The movie tried to ridicule Hitler. It's a comedy of mistaken identities and a truly hilarious one. Many critics argued that this speech at the end sounded like a lecture, since Chaplin suddenly dropped his comic persona and started getting serious. Once you see the movie you do realize the speech is discordant with the film's tone. But I loved it, it was daring and inspired. Chaplin's own views, spoken by the man himself.
@danthemango And mind you, this film was made before the horrors of the Holocaust began to be known. Afterwards I dont think Chaplin or anybody else would have even remotely considered Hitler a subject of comedy or ridicule, only of deep, deep loathing. Still, through satire, it touched on important issues, and it offered a moving portrayal of Jews and their plight. I think it's a movie everyone should see, this speech being one of the reasons. AND it is hilarious.
wow, i didn't think this would actually get kinda popular. thank you everyone! i understand the audio overpowers Charlie's voice, but i put these together for the purpose of not having to play the videos together yourself. thank you again!
I will admit that i cried slightly. What can I say, I'm a sucker for inspirational speeches of human existence and civility. If that makes me a sap for good editing and fantastic writing, (and an amazing score) ... then I'm a sap :)

i love this. my only critique is that the music overpowers Chaplin's speech toward the end. i was straining to hear what he was saying. i'd love to see a version where it's toned down a bit to fit better with his speech.
