Unbelievable... I don't even LIKE America... The anthem is almost as ugly as the one from my country (the Netherlands), but the Dixie Chicks just helped me to understand why every american is so patriotic. Almost makes me want to be an american!
alot of people forget that this song was written at a time when americans were fighting for theyr freedom against tyranny....now, when i see the flag of america, i think of tyranny....our government and the people that support it, have destroyed america...this is no longer a land of the free, it is the land of oppressive government and dictatorship...a land where the government is the master, and the people are subjects of the master...the opposite of the america over 200 years ago

What ARE the special effects? There are so many videos of the Dixie Chicks singing live on YouTube, and Natalie's voice is note-perfect, as are Martie's fiddle playing and Emily's banjo playing. They are rich and successful, while you, ma'am, are a NOBODY.
Thanks for uploading this recording--I was unaware that there was a studio recording of the Chicks singing The Star-Spangled Banner; I had heard their live version at the Super Bowl only. This is true musicianship--no special effects, just three gorgeous voices coalescing to produce the most beautiful rendition of our national anthem. I wish the Eagles/Dixie Chicks show would come to upstate New York (sigh).

Every time i hear some pop star singing (like how Jordin Sparks did it), i want to go up and throw them off the stage. You're singing to show respect the country, not to emphasize you're a completely selfish ass singer. (which they do all the time anyway!)
LOOL a couple of pages ago there was a comment by a user who believed that the author of the star spangled banner meant for it to be sung this way... cracked me up because 1) technically it's a poem, and 2) the original melody was borrowed from a old british drinking song, keke.
but besides that, i really like the dixie chicks' version of the national anthem. they sound like angels, and they don't butcher and try to make it about them like all the pop singers do. (:

Toby Keith has a right to complain. Given his album and single sales, he should have won several CMT's AND Grammys. He's doing ok without them. I doubt the grammys realize how much LESS value the Grammy has after handing a fistful to the Chicks in a year their sales were relatively low AND low compared to others like Blige. We'll see next year, but I hope they have the grammys and no one significant shows up to receive.

Perfection. I think that this is what the author had in mind when he wrote this song. And it is extremely difficult to sing. A few years ago a friend of mine put together something similar to this, but in four parts. Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass. It was beautiful. This song is meant to be sung this way.
Disagreeing with what someone says is not attacking their right to have the opinion, it is attacking the opinion itself. Unfortunately, the Media PR in support of the Dixie Chicks have tossed this difference aside. The Media, for the sake of profit, has spun the american dissent against the opinion expressed by Natalie Maines into an attack on her freedom of speech.
As a result, we learned if you can sing, no one can express an opposing view to yours without being publicly castrated.
That is simply not true. If I pay good money to go to a concert, I do not want politics to come in to it. Do you think the Dixie Chicks would want to go to a restaurant and have to listen to the political views of their waiter? They are there to eat. I guarantee the Chicks would stand up and walk out. If you walk out of their concert, you still have to pay.
May i say as a Brit with mixed views on Iraq and US policy (good war guys, badly fought), the point of democracy is the right for guys and Chicks alike to express their views. Now your anthem is devilishly hard to sing, which is why you use soloists. Some I have heard embarrass me. This version, musically, is the best I have heard.
Give them a break - this is the best version of this song I have ever heard, and they didn't say they were ashamed of America - just - well we all know what they said. Give it up - they deserve kudos for this one.
me and two friends from work are learning this version for a lookouts baseball game next month. I am doing the high part. it is the best harmony version i have ever heard.
If you were taught the melody and harmony a certain way, it's possible to train yourself to keep it in your head... just like if you learn your favorite song your gonna remember every high note and extra points in that song.
As someone who has sung this song at least 100 times about 4 or 5 different ways, what the chicks are doing here is very artistic. It may not be the most appealing to all ears with the contrast but it is very artisticly pleasing. This is not an easy song to sing either, well done chicks.
There are significant vocal differences between this version and the 2003 version. Have you ever heard them live? They have the ability to harmonize as they did in that video. They are extremely talented vocalists.

This sounds more live than the pre-recorded version they sung 2003. Perhaps, the musical arrangement was unnecessary ... The soprano voice is also VERY thin and does not make for nice listening ... but nice Lead vocal.

If you go to a website called chicksrockchicksrule and go to videos and see them doin this live at the Thoughtful House All-Star Classic Baseball tournament you will know it wasnt prerecorded in 2003.
Get over it! As a professional singer I have known many artists trained to track their own vocals ... I have had to do it myself. It is not because they cannot perform live ... rather it is often due to technical issues ... For instance, performing live at the Superbowl in that space would be virtually disastrous. Hence, why all artists prerecord unless acapella.
Is there anyway to find this vocal arrangement or sheet music? I would be very appreciative if someone could help me out! I need to sing this on Saturday and I'd love to sing in this trio!

Of all the celeb renditions ive heard over the years, this is easily the best one ever. Sent chills down my spine when they sang it at the 2003 Superbowl. Their harmonies so high, crisp, uncomplicated and effortless as though practising at home. A female trio is also kinda unusual as its usually a solo act. God Bless America and the Dixie Chicks!!!

The Chicks sound awesome as always, but I actually prefer their live performance of the anthem to this recorded version. The live version was very emotionally charged, touching, gave you goosebumps, and made you proud to be an American! (p.s. If you haven't seen it, you MUST!)

LOOL a couple of pages ago there was a comment by a user who believed that the author of the star spangled banner meant for it to be sung this way... cracked me up because 1) technically it's a poem, and 2) the original melody was borrowed from a old british drinking song, keke.
but besides that, i really like the dixie chicks' version of the national anthem. they sound like angels, and they don't butcher and try to make it about them like all the pop singers do. (:

Toby Keith has a right to complain. Given his album and single sales, he should have won several CMT's AND Grammys. He's doing ok without them. I doubt the grammys realize how much LESS value the Grammy has after handing a fistful to the Chicks in a year their sales were relatively low AND low compared to others like Blige. We'll see next year, but I hope they have the grammys and no one significant shows up to receive.

I love that they couldn't win one CMT award, which are voted on by the public, but got handed a fistful of Grammys, which are voted on solely by individuals completely dependent on artists for their income! LMAO. Is that crazy or what!

Perfection. I think that this is what the author had in mind when he wrote this song. And it is extremely difficult to sing. A few years ago a friend of mine put together something similar to this, but in four parts. Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass. It was beautiful. This song is meant to be sung this way.

Disagreeing with what someone says is not attacking their right to have the opinion, it is attacking the opinion itself. Unfortunately, the Media PR in support of the Dixie Chicks have tossed this difference aside. The Media, for the sake of profit, has spun the american dissent against the opinion expressed by Natalie Maines into an attack on her freedom of speech.
As a result, we learned if you can sing, no one can express an opposing view to yours without being publicly castrated.

That is simply not true. If I pay good money to go to a concert, I do not want politics to come in to it. Do you think the Dixie Chicks would want to go to a restaurant and have to listen to the political views of their waiter? They are there to eat. I guarantee the Chicks would stand up and walk out. If you walk out of their concert, you still have to pay.

May i say as a Brit with mixed views on Iraq and US policy (good war guys, badly fought), the point of democracy is the right for guys and Chicks alike to express their views. Now your anthem is devilishly hard to sing, which is why you use soloists. Some I have heard embarrass me. This version, musically, is the best I have heard.

If you were taught the melody and harmony a certain way, it's possible to train yourself to keep it in your head... just like if you learn your favorite song your gonna remember every high note and extra points in that song.

As someone who has sung this song at least 100 times about 4 or 5 different ways, what the chicks are doing here is very artistic. It may not be the most appealing to all ears with the contrast but it is very artisticly pleasing. This is not an easy song to sing either, well done chicks.

There are significant vocal differences between this version and the 2003 version. Have you ever heard them live? They have the ability to harmonize as they did in that video. They are extremely talented vocalists.

This sounds more live than the pre-recorded version they sung 2003. Perhaps, the musical arrangement was unnecessary ... The soprano voice is also VERY thin and does not make for nice listening ... but nice Lead vocal.

If you go to a website called chicksrockchicksrule and go to videos and see them doin this live at the Thoughtful House All-Star Classic Baseball tournament you will know it wasnt prerecorded in 2003.

Get over it! As a professional singer I have known many artists trained to track their own vocals ... I have had to do it myself. It is not because they cannot perform live ... rather it is often due to technical issues ... For instance, performing live at the Superbowl in that space would be virtually disastrous. Hence, why all artists prerecord unless acapella.

Of all the celeb renditions ive heard over the years, this is easily the best one ever. Sent chills down my spine when they sang it at the 2003 Superbowl. Their harmonies so high, crisp, uncomplicated and effortless as though practising at home. A female trio is also kinda unusual as its usually a solo act. God Bless America and the Dixie Chicks!!!

The Chicks sound awesome as always, but I actually prefer their live performance of the anthem to this recorded version. The live version was very emotionally charged, touching, gave you goosebumps, and made you proud to be an American! (p.s. If you haven't seen it, you MUST!)

I'm an Australian and for me, the Chicks had every right to voice their opinions. You guys have an incredible anthem that is powerful and true to your patriotism. I just wish ours was about honor rather than a sunburnt country. Best version I have ever heard or seen. You fight for your freedom, so let people experience that freedom and voice their opinions.

One of the most beautiful versions of the Star Spangled Banner ever sung, and I've heard plenty. It gives me chills and is such an uplifting tribute to our country and what our flag stands for. Oh wait, I'm a Liberal Democrat and so are the Dixie Chicks. We're not allowed to be patriotic. Whoops!
