you can tell when something is lip synced...if a singer runs all over the stage and the song sounds exactly the same as it was on the cd, then yes it probably is because they should be out of breath from running around and singing at the same time...but i think this performance is live...I mean the most they do is take a couple steps forward and you can hear the difference between this and the track

Near the end they're not totally in sync with each other which makes me think it IS live, but I could be wrong.. What I do know is Chris DEFINITELY sang live in the 2011 tour because during "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" he would say things to the crowd when he should have been singing a line or two and their was no pre-recorded voice still singing.. And let me tell you, he sounded flawless!

@Tranchera This was lipped. For chris the whole thing, for Lea beginning at the second chorus. They recorded this song separately not as a duet. They both recorded it as a solo, but the produces made it a duet. They used the separate tracks so that it would seem live: Starting at different times, not in sync with eachother yadda yadda. But Lea did the song 100% live only twice on the show:

they Are singing live, I've found a recording online from live and there are differences, small differences, but they're there. Lea really does sound like she sings live, Chris maybe not so much, but take in mind, he's always wanted to sing this song when he was younger, maybe he's sung it so many times he perfected it, and so when he sings it it Does sound really similar as the recording.

Yup, they're lip-syncing, but that doesn't mean they can't sing as well as they sound. If you watch other vids of them singing Defying Gravity live, Lea sounds very and I mean VERY different live although she still does a fantastic job :) As for Chris, it's not that he can't sing but I think it was because the producer/director thought he wasn't ready to sing live just yet. I'm sure now, I have no doubt of Chris performing live!

Really? I'm fully convinced they were both lip-syncing in this video, although I've heard Lea Michele sing it for real live. And this is coming from a complete Chris Colfer fangirl. There's no way he wasn't lip-syncing; if you over-lay the studio version with this, it's EXACTLY the same. I'd love to believe differently, but, that just doesn't lie. :/
